1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2025

The computer(s) responsible for many of the safety systems have faulty software. The computer vision system incorrectly assess condition of the roadway and issues warnings that obscure the instrument cluster. The computer vision system also incorrectly determines that a collision is imminent (despite no obstacles being present) and activates the braking system. Hyundai has been aware of this issue since 2022 and has previously released a software patch to correct it. However, unpatched vehicles are still being sold (and resold) by Hyundai dealerships without being fixed because Hyundai has chosen to rescind the availability of the update. Unpatched vehicles are on the road preventing drivers from properly monitoring vehicle operation as a result of the continuous warning obscuring the cluster and are jeopardizing the occupants and other road users when the vehicles spontaneously initiate panic stops for phantom obstacles. Hyundai refuses requests to provide the existing update files because a future update with an uncertain release date is planned; release of the "upcoming" update has seemingly already been delayed 8 months.

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2025

During a recent accident, the driver pressed the brakes but they did not respond, almost as if they locked up. Police at the scene noted there were no skid marks on the road, suggesting the brakes never engaged. The vehicle suffered major side impact damage, including broken windows and crushed passenger-side doors, but none of the airbags deployed. This raises serious concerns about a possible brake system failure and airbag non-deployment defect. The vehicle has not yet been repaired and is available for inspection. Police have reviewed the accident, and the insurance company has also seen the vehicle, but no mechanical inspection has been completed by the manufacturer. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the failure. The safety of the driver and passengers was put at risk because the car could not be stopped and the airbags did not deploy to provide protection.

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2025

The blind spot warning went off and locked all the brakes up. We were not able to move the vehicle and could not even pull off the road out of traffic. There is no way to disable the brakes when the computer or sensors are malfunctioning. We had to get the vehicle towed.

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2025

The car slammed on it's brakes on the off ramp even though I had plenty of time to slow down. It came to a full stop before it let me accelerate again and I almost got rear ended.

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2025

While driving 70mph on the freeway, the car’s emergency braking assistance activated twice for no apparent reason. This is very dangerous at such high speeds and could result in a serious accident if cars are following close behind. This car has not been inspected for this issue. A google search of this issue revealed many similar complaints that have not been addressed or taken seriously. A possible related warning message about “blocked forward safety” has appeared a few times in the last week.

6 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

While driving approximately 75 mph in the passing lane on highway, the vehicle suddenly automatically brake. Pulled back into the right lane and didn't really understand what happened. Next time I pulled out to pass and had a car on my right hand side it did the same thing. Pulled back into right hand lane and stayed there for quite some time. I then turned off the all around sensor @ and it didnt do it again but as I got closer to home the warning light came on and a message popped up. It now has the triangle caution sign on and the picture of car icon in amber. I had driven the car from my home for about 50 miles and parked car for two hours, the drove back toward home for about 20 miles when the event happened. It was dangerous and makes not want to use any of the "assist system's" going forward. I plan to wash the car today to see if the lights will go off- if they don't then I shall call dealer on Monday. This occurred on Saturday. Ill be washing car today (Sunday). If I had anyone driving closely behind me, I for sure would have been rear ended.

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2024

A week ago, I was driving my 2022 Tucson hybrid limited on the highway on my way to work around 7:50 a. M. It was a bright day, good weather. I was in the center lane when my car suddenly braked hard and came to a stop on the highway! my foot was still on the gas pedal, but the automatic emergency braking light was on. I panicked because I had no control over what the car was doing. Thankfully, I was not rear-ended and didn't cause an accident. I put on my hazard lights, shifted into park on the highway's center lane, then back into drive and it seemed fine. There was not really any traffic in front of me that I remember, but there were some cars on either side and behind me that had to swerve around me. I don't trust this car anymore. It is going to get me or someone else killed. I took it to the dealer 2 days ago and the initial inspection didn't show any problems or error codes. They told me I could have it back since there didn't seem to be a problem or they could give me a loaner car and keep testing my car. I have a loaner. I hope they find something wrong with the car, otherwise, I am afraid of my car getting me or someone else killed. I am especially scared after reading about all the others here who have had this same issue.

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2024

Driving down highway going about 65 miles an hour no hazards in front or behind me suddenly red flash emergency breaking lights and car slammed on brakes resolved on its own in about 3 seconds but could have caused an accident.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2024

I was coming back from the mall on the highway doing 50mph and my truck started losing power which it has done before but this time the emergency brake came on and my truck stopped in the middle of the highway on a Saturday. Thank god no one was following me close because that would have caused a bad accident. And also sometimes after I stop at a light or stop sign my brakes harden and I can’t press them down if that makes since and all my needles move back and fourth while the engine is making a noise but the car is still in drive but will not move. I have to hit the button to turn the car off and restart it and this has happened to me 3 times already. This is very frustrating and scary.

10 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2024

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph for unknown reasons, he lost consciousness and crashed into a swing, curb, vehicle, fence, and pole. The contact stated the automatic braking and collision mitigation braking system failed to engage. The contact was provided with medical attention. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire. The air bags were deployed. The vehicle was towed to a car wreck auction site. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who opened a case and informed  him the system was working as designed and only recognized people. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The VIN was not available.

11 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2024

While driving over 50 mph the emergency brake has initiated 3 times in a 4 month period. There are no cars in front of my vehicle and it is not the collision warning but it will flash on the dash the the emergency brake is engaged in red, it will make a warning beeping noise and the car will brake on its own.

12 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2023

Sudden braking / collision warning. Approximately 10 times in reverse at a very low speed. 2 times in forward drive (once at a very low speed & once at approximately 30 mph). Dash constantly alternates between warnings for uneven roads ahead and slippery roads ahead. I took it to brookshire Hyundai service on 7/19/23. I was told that Hyundai is aware of the problem but doesn’t know how to fix it so just take my car home and check back to see if they have a fix in a month or so.

13 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2023

I was pulling out of a parking lot when my auto-braking activated. There was absolutely nothing anywhere around my car. I was entering a 2 lane road with zero traffic on it at that moment. When I pressed the gas pedal the brakes stayed locked. I quickly pressed the brake pedal at which time it released the brakes. I was then able to accelerate freely.

14 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2023

The following is an account of what happened when the SUV's brakes failed, which caused serious damage to the 2022 Hyundai Tucson (the "SUV") and also damaged two other vehicles. On February 15 in the afternoon, the SUV was traveling approximately 20-30 mph and was rolling up to a red light. There were about 6 car lengths between the SUV and the next vehicle as driver started pressing the brakes. Driver noticed the SUV wasn't slowing down so driver started pumping the brakes and still nothing. Driver even looked down to make sure he/she was pressing the right pedal and he/she was. The SUV was getting closer and closer to the vehicle in front. Driver kept trying the brakes, pumping, flooring, everything. The SUV would not slow or stop. Driver tried to avoid the car ahead and did all driver could think of to slow and not hit the car ahead but the SUV would not slow down. The collision warning came on as the SUV struck the right of car in front of it. The emergency braking did not come on. Further, the SUV still did not stop until the tire hit the concrete barrier in the road. The airbag did not deploy. In total three vehicles were damaged as the SUV hit one which pushed it into another at the light. Hyundai corporate consumer assistance was contacted and a case opened. The case manager did the initial reach out after the complaint but has failed to return any phone messages or emails about the case for close to a month. They were told where the vehicle was and consent signed so they could inspect and it remains available for them to do so. The dealership was contacted but the person spoken to said its a corporate issue. The SUV is at a body shop and will be sent to Hyundai for mechanical issues and we are hoping they will look at least then for cause. There were no issues before the accident. No previous brake issue. The SUV is badly damaged. It is available to inspect upon request. The accident could have caused driver or others serious harm.

15 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2022

The automatic emergency braking has numerous false alerts, several times each day. The problem seems to be worse when a vehicle travelling the same direction in a different lane slows. The problem also appears when the Tucson's own shadow shifts directly in front of the car near sunrise and sunset when longer shadows are present. The car will brake hard though there is no risk of forward collision. This creates a danger as vehicles behind my own cannot anticipate this sudden hard braking, thus increasing the risk of a rear end collision.

16 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2022

Purchased vehicle new at dealership with less than 20 miles on it. No aftermarket parts, no accidents or issues. Normal daily conditions, and constant logging on fueleconomy. Gov. 08/17/2022 at 8:15 driving 45-55 mph on major freeway with a low/moderate traffic. Roughly 5 miles from home, good road conditions and good weather. Suddenly, automatic emergency braking system engaged (and related cluster lights/alarms displayed on dash). There was not a vehicle in front of me, and nearest vehicle in front was roughly 150 ft. Away. Emergency brakes engaged so forcefully that I was unable to keep my vehicle moving forward, and vehicle came to a complete stop in the left lane of major freeway. My vehicle instantly turned off (or "died") with the radio still playing, but nothing else on. Had to place the vehicle in park, push the start button, and place the vehicle in drive, in order to continue. Obviously very unexpected. Vehicle behind me had to slam on their brakes (tires squealed) and narrowly avoided hitting my vehicle by about 36-48 inches. I'm unsure how they managed to avoid not hitting me. Unfortunately, the vehicle behind that car could not avoid the maneuver, and hit the vehicle that was directly behind me. I do not know if the other vehicle had injured individuals, as I was trying to get out of the left lanes of the 5-lane freeway, coming from a complete stop. Essentially, my vehicle caused someone to hit the vehicle that was directly behind me. I placed my hazard lights on, immediately pushed bluelink button, but after two (2) times of inability to hear their voices because of breakup, I pushed sos. Ultimately drove directly to steele south loop Hyundai and informed them of incident. Per dealership, they were unable to duplicate the problem, and found no error codes. I am not afraid to drive my car, with only 5,500 miles on it. Requested for dealership to report to you, but do not believe they took me seriously, so I am doing this. Major safety hazard.

17 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2022

Hello, I am writing because I have experienced mechanical issues with my car since I purchased the automobile. Since I bought the car, I began having problems with the electrical components, the automatic emergency brake engaging while driving, and the chassis. The emergency brake has engaged while driving numerous times and has consistently been unpredictable since I've owned the car. In addition, the car's handling and suspension have been problematic since purchasing the vehicle. The car has driven poorly, with many vibrations and feeling extra loose throughout my owning the car. I received a diagnostic code via my Hyundai app indicating issues related to the chassis. I have contacted Hyundai on far too many instances regarding these problems and have not gotten any resolution. I've expressed my concerns about feeling that the car was unsafe for myself and other drivers on the road. However, Hyundai has still been unresponsive, as indicated by numerous open case files where there was no followthrough. Last week, I was in a car accident with a bus. I believe the accident occurred because of the above-stated problem. Specifically, when the emergency brake unexpectantly engages as it did right before the accident. The car is now at the Hyundai dealership. A representative from the dealership contacted me about my concerns as if the car's problems were new and they were not aware of them. These problems have caused me to experience high-stress levels because of the car's unpredictability and my fear of being in an accident. I desire to receive a two-fold resolution by submitting this letter of complaint. I want to get a properly functioning automobile and to prevent anyone else from being in an accident because of the critical mechanical issues present in the 2022 Hyundai Tucson.
