Equipment problem #1

I was driving on the freeway no where near an overpass going about 65mph when the front panel on my panaromaic sunroof exploded and glass went everywhere. There is no signs that a rock could have possibly hit it. My safety was at risk because I could have crashed and broken glass rained down on me. There were no warning signs and the vehicle has not been inspected yet, but it will be.

Equipment problem #2

The reverse beeping is just too loud for an hybrid and many people online agree. I fully agree with having mandates for electric vehicles for safety concerns however they should not be so loud that they are louder or near as loud as a commercial truck and disturb residents. In fact Hyundai responded to the complaints by re-designing it for 2025 and newer facelifts but won't give any services to upgrade it to newer versions. I fully believe that Hyundai should and must offer services to use the new updated vess.

Equipment problem #3

Component that is unsafe: moonroof glass taking in for inspection tomorrow. Safety risk: while driving on highway, glass spontaneously popped and fully shattered. Glass fell down onto myself and into the car as I was driving. This put my driving at risk. Major distraction as well as potentially being a harm to my physical self. Problem reproduced? I know that there are other reports on moonroof glass on a Hyundai Tucson cars that have been shattered with the same predisposing factors. Hyundai has also been reported to not take accountability claiming that foreign objects were the cause. No this vehicle has not been inspected, but I will be taking it in on Sunday. There were zero warnings before this.

Equipment problem #4

All systems warning lights came on.

Equipment problem #5

Dear commissioner and dmv officials: I am writing to formally address a serious financial and safety concern affecting vehicle owners in connecticut. As a driver with over 50 years of experience—32 of those in CT—I have never experienced rodent damage to any vehicle until purchasing my 2023 Hyundai Tucson. Since acquiring this vehicle, I have suffered thousands of dollars in damage from rodents chewing through the wiring and wire housing. Multiple mechanics have confirmed this is due to manufacturers switching to soy-based and plant-derived biodegradable materials in wiring insulation. These materials are effectively edible, attracting rodents year-round—not just in cold months. This is not owner negligence. The root cause is a material deficiency in the vehicle's manufacturing. Consumers should not bear the financial burden of a known design choice made by the automaker. Repairs are costly, often excluded from warranties, and frequently not covered by insurance. I respectfully request the department: investigate the scope of rodent damage complaints linked to bio-based wiring in newer vehicles. Coordinate with NHTSA to evaluate whether this constitutes a safety defect warranting a recall. Advocate for regulatory standards requiring rodent-resistant wiring materials. Urge manufacturers like Hyundai to offer warranty coverage, reimbursement, or retrofits for affected vehicles. I am prepared to provide documentation of my repair expenses upon request. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Respectfully submitted, [xxx] NHTSA, CT attorney general, CT consumer protection, Hyundai consumer affairs information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Equipment problem #6

At dusk I was driving below the speed limit (40 mph). I was at least 3 car lengths behind the vehicle in front of me when I saw the driver was braking because his brake lights came on and there was an intersection ahead with a stop light. There were at least two cars ahead of the vehicler I was behind. I braked but the car kept on going and appeared to accelerate. I was unable to stop the car with the brakes and collided with the car ahead. It was a sturdy vehicle with a strong bumper so I did not do much damage, if any, to the vehicle but my car requires $6,645. 90 of repairs. No one was hurt and the air bags did not deploy. I was wearing my seat belt. There was no warning from NY vehicle that I was getting too close to the vehicle ahead and my car made no attempt to brake automatically. It was as though all warning indicators were not functioning. I have had two other incidents of the car surging ahead but did not report it because no one else was involved and I was able to correct the speed and I thought it was just my imagination.

Equipment problem #7

Sun roof on Tucson 2023 shattered while car was being driven. When the roof shattered there was a loud sound (like a bomb going off) in the car and then the sound of glass breaking. The vehicle is available for inspection. There were not any warnings or messages before the failure. Safety was at risk for the passengers and any vehicles that were following. The loud sound caused the driver to swerve and could have caused an accident if another vehicle was on either side of the car. The vehicle was taken to a dealership and shown the damage and the service advisor stated he never heard of a problem. I have contacted Hyundai and they said it might take 6 to 8 weeks before an inspection could be made. There are many messages on the web from people with the same issues. Hyundai did a recall for this same issue for earlier production dates.

Equipment problem #8

Horn did not work. At about 67,000 miles on my vehicle my horn stopped working. I took it to the dealership to be replaced and paid for it. Then again at about 100,000 miles it stopped working. I took it back to the dealership and asked if there’s been any recalls they stated not at this time but there’s been a lot of people complaining about their horns and they told me to save my receipt receipts because I might be able to get reimbursed later. On two different occasions. I’ve been driving and had a car changing lanes into my lane and when I went to honk the horn to alert them, it didn’t work. Now I’m also concerned that I’ve got the same horn put on my vehicle for a third time and that I’m going to have to go back in and pay for a third one. I did reach out to Hyundai USA first and ask them to make this right but they stated they do not have an extended warranty for the 2023 vehicles even though they do have bills for 2020 through 2022. I can get copies of the receipts if they’re needed.

Equipment problem #9

Two times while stopped or idling behind a car in traffic, my Hyundai Tucson 2023 has started accelerating on its own with the rpm increasing to nearly 8000 and lurching forward before I was able to apply brakes. Stop the car and restart. I have seen this described on other car message boards and hope the NHTSA will take this seriously. The dealership is not being helpful and claims they cannot reproduce it and it has not caused any onboard diagnostic codes.

Equipment problem #10

My 2023 Hyundai Tucson’s windshield has developed excessive pitting, multiple chips, and cracks despite only normal highway driving. I do not drive on gravel or dirt roads, yet the glass shows abnormal wear far beyond what would be expected for a vehicle this new. One of the larger chips was repaired by safelite, and during the repair the windshield cracked further, suggesting the glass is unusually weak or defective. Visibility has become noticeably compromised due to the fine pitting across the entire windshield. Based on the number of similar complaints from other Tucson owners, this appears to be a recurring safety issue with Hyundai windshields.

Equipment problem #11

As I was parking my car in a parking spot going about 5 miles or less. My car surged forward at a very accelerated speed, and I ended up running into a brushed and a metal fence, which is what stopped me. There were no warnings that went off on my car. No emergency brakes, nothing.

Equipment problem #12

After using horn on rainy highway driving it stopped working completely. Called dealer with issue and scheduled appointment. After two day they said it is a know issue and horns will take 2-3 business days to order. Took 5. Getting horns replaced today but told by service tech that this is a known safety issue to Hyundai. Horns are a basic piece of equipment. Should be recalled and better designed.

Equipment problem #13

The blue tooth handsfree phone button does not work I took it into service and told them I was told the update to fix it wont come out until December so in the meantime for 3 months I have to not be able to work or talk in the car because it is unsafe to use the phone without it being handsfree.

Equipment problem #14

Unknown - was parking in a spot and car accelerated uncommanded, stepped on the brakes and car did not stop. It stopped with parking sign cement post.

Equipment problem #15

While driving, I am repeatedly receiving a sudden “trunk open” warning on the dashboard. This warning is often accompanied by a loud noise, which can be startling and distracting while the vehicle is in motion. The abruptness and unexpected nature of the alert are alarming, especially on highways or in high-traffic situations, where any distraction could pose a serious safety hazard. This issue has occurred multiple times, and I am concerned that it could potentially cause an accident, either by drawing my attention away from the road or by causing confusion to other drivers who may see the trunk appearing to open or triggering the warning lights. The recurrence of this problem suggests that it may be due to a malfunction in the trunk sensor, latch system, or electronic control unit. This is not only inconvenient but potentially dangerous for the person operating the vehicle. I urge that this be investigated thoroughly as it may affect more vehicles and pose a broader safety risk if not addressed.

Equipment problem #16

Horn does not work. On going issue with this model per Hyundai Tucson forum.

Equipment problem #17

This week I noticed my low tone horn on my vehicle had stopped working it was replaced under warranty by Hyundai at 41000 miles only a little while ago at 35000 miles both horns went out and I only learned this when I needed it to help avoid being hit and it wasn’t available Hyundai indicated they are aware of issue but are still replacing horns with the same original part that is prone to shorting out.

Equipment problem #18

Attempted to make right turn onto busy road. Tried to accelerate to move with the traffic, when the car would not go any faster then 20mph. Could hear cars braking behind me. Pulled over to the side. Message appeared on speedometer, " limit 20mph" with green speedometer. Shut the car off tried to find problem in the manual. Didnt find anything. Turned car back on, it ran normal. Took it to Hyundai, fort myers, appointment, on 08/28/24. They diagnosed it as : "driver assist speed setting was turned on inside settings. Turned off setting, performed a dtc code scanning with no dtcs in any system. Attached stui photos, performed a 2 mile test drive with no further issues". I can only hope that the problem is solved. I do not recall turning on anything like, and wouldn't know how to, but I guess it is possible. Wanted to notify the NHTSA, in case there are other owners experiencing the same issue. Thank you for concern.

Equipment problem #19

Horn stopped working even the fuse is fine still horn not working . Not panic alarm sound either.

Equipment problem #20

2023 tuscon limited gas - multiple instances on vehicle forward collision warning system activating with alarms noted but no activation of emergency braking while sitting at stop light with cars in front and back that are not moving. Radio system going to show surround view and in some cases only front view even though at stop light. Biggest issue this weekend while taking a curve while merging onto another freeway the emergency braking system activated for no reason. First time occurrence. No one beside me or in front of me for some distance but did have someone behind me. It was a quick activation of the brakes and then release, I would say 1-2 second engagement. If had been longer and brought me to stop would of been an accident. I am taking the car to westlake Hyundai to investigate this week and will report. Also having dealer investigate premature driver seat excessive wear. Car has 15. 5k miles on it. I am concerned as this car is exhibiting same issues that my wife's 2018 tuscon had that ended-up being successfully lemon lawed. I am also seeing way to many similar complaints and Hyundai needs to figure out what is going on with their emergency front collision sensing system and issue a fix or recall.

Equipment problem #21

Failure to accelerate. While entering route 95 from on ramp traveling at about 40 miles the car failed to accelerate. Gas pedal revved engine but failed to accelerate and slowed. Safety of myself and others in grave risk as I was trying to merge into traffic that was traveling at 65 miles per hour. I contacted dealer and was told appointment was not available for weeks and they never heard of the problem. I will bring auto into dealership and leave it with them as it is clearly unsafe to drive. No warning light on dash or engine light problem was present.

Equipment problem #22

Upon closing the driver’s side door, the panoramic sunroof exploded. The car is currently at the dealership where it was purchased. It is available for inspection. Safety……any occupants within the vehicle would have been exposed to the shards of glass if the sunshade was open! the dealer stated that Hyundai has approved the replacement of the exploded sunroof glass and the cleaning of the glass remnants inside the car. The was no warning or symptoms prior to this incident. We requested a loaner vehicle but as of today we have not received one. Completion date stated 1 week. . Order and installation. The rounded upwards photo of the sunroof glass, the stress fractures at the front and rear of the glass as well as the inward bending of the front sunroof corners gives every indication of an upward movement of the glass from within the car. It was not damaged by any objects external to the vehicle. There are many similar incidents cited on the internet.

Equipment problem #23

After stopped at a red light, the light turned green and the car slipped into neutral when stepping on the gas pedal. The gear was not shifted and the controls still displayed “d” both on the dashboard and the gear selector. This happened twice 5 days apart from each other. This car has an automatic transmission and the automatic engine shut off was on.

Equipment problem #24

The trim on the driver's side rear door flew off while traveling at approximately 65 miles per hour. Luckly no one was behind me. I was able to retrieve the trim piece from the highway and it was determined to have been placed improperly on the car. The trim was not able to be replaced due to damage when it was run over by several vehicles. The warranty says it's covered but the trim has been on back order for a month.

Equipment problem #25

Driving down the freeway at normal speeds and my panoramic sunroof literally just exploded, raining tempered glass all over the interior of the vehicle while I was driving. No evidence that it was caused by any road debris, objects, nor falling objects from the sky. I wasn’t driving under a bridge and no cars/trucks were immediately next to me nor in front of me. Traffic was flowing at normal speed. I wasn’t injured but was certainly startled and distracted for a moment to gauge what had just happened. The dealer is looking into it. Claims it could have been caused by a rock. That seems to defy the law of physics and the glass actually look like it bowed from the inside out as if too much pressure was being applied to the glass. Searches online seem to point to several class action lawsuits and plenty of reports of similar exploding sunroofs!.

Equipment problem #26

I previously leased my vehicle from rick case Hyundai in April 2023, in November I started having issues with my vehicle as I moved to colorado. My whole vehicle starts to uncontrollably shake going 25 mph and over. Since highway speed limit is 65 that is where I struggle the most with driving and that is the most endangering as well. I have to pump my breaks and hope they don't stop working. I have taken my car to get a diagnostic multiple times at different dealerships and each time I went to another dealership they advised a different problem I can send an email or mail with all attachments of diagnostic reports from Hyundai dealership. Each dealership advised one of these problems, engine, brakes, rotors, tires, etc, although the vehicle was a few months old! I reported lemon l to Hyundai customer service with 2 different attempts and they denied my lemon law and advised I should pay for anything not under warranty. Although the vehicle has a manufacture defect I will be continuing to attempt different dealerships to help my cause since I am endangering myself and everyone around me. I have done enough research to know I am not the only person with this problem and this should be a recall defect. I need a solution so I can drive in the state I live in ,colorado, and not be scared for my life that my car will stop working at some point.

Equipment problem #27

While driving the vehicle, the acceleration stopped and the car came to a halt right in the middle of the road. It acted like the battery drained and the gas did not kick in. The only fix was to shut it off and turn it back on. Took it to dealership they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it so we picked up the car and as soon as we drove off, it happened again. This could result in a fatality if it happens on a busy highway since there is no warning and it just stops working. Took it back and the dealer says they can’t find anything wrong. Although the receptionist said they are aware of this because they call it a “limp” problem because the car goes limp. The second time it happened we took a picture of the dash.

Equipment problem #28

This is copy and pasted from your site. Hyundai does not have a recall ready, so I am filing a complaint. Is this the correct action? the transmission electric oil pump for the idle stop & go system (isg) in the subject vehicles might have been assembled with printed circuit boards (pcb) that were damaged during manufacturing by the oil pump controller supplier. A damaged capacitor on the pump controller pcb could impact electrical operation leading to heat damage to the electric oil pump circuit board, connector, and wiring harness. The heat damage at the pump increases the risk of a vehicle fire in addition to a potential controller area network (can) communication disruption for multiple onboard controllers. Thanks for your time.

Equipment problem #29

Trunk door opens by itself. This has happened after exiting vehicle at least 3 times when vehicle is parked. Has not happened while moving.

Equipment problem #30

I was driving at normal speed and all of a sudden the vehicle accelerated to a high speed. Took to dealer with all the other issues and they could not create the problem. They are trying to blame it on me for have two sets of mats. Also navigation unit is not the correct unit in car. When I apply the brake to stop it seems as if the frame is creaking.

Equipment problem #31

I was driving on i95 and all of sudden the truck started sputtering and shut off. I turned off and back on , it would not go. Then the engine light came on. There was also smoke coming from the tail pipe when I tried again to start it. Back in December 2022, I was driving and the truck cut off and would not start at all. It was diagnosed as the ignition coil being the problem. This horrible, both times could have been worse because of it cutting off while driving.

Equipment problem #32

Ac system is not functioning properly. Having the car on for 20 minutes, ac system does not kick in allowing the car to cool properly. This happens when temps are above 95 degrees. This is an issue as it could lead to someone passing out as someone is driving a car. As the temps of outside and inside of the car compound as the cabin can't cool down. Serious issue as a car should cool down with 5 to 10 minutes. Car rarely blows cold air and ahould not be operated in hot environments.

Equipment problem #33

When driving the car and stopping at red lights, stop signs, or any other stops in traffic on roads and expressways, the car engine randomly dies and cannot restart between 3 and 10 mins. There is no warning when this is about to happen – the car engine simply dies and dashboard lights come on. There is no response from the car after shifting in neutral or park by pressing the start button with foot on brake. After some amount of time, the car will start. There is no warning before this is going to happen. The dealer (patrick Hyundai) has inspected the car three times and has not been able to reproduce the problem as this happens randomly. They told me on my third visit to not bring the car back as they don't know what the problem is. The first time this happened was 4 months after I owned the car and has happened in excess of 6 times I now fear for my life when I drive this car. I was almost hit twice. I was stopped on a busy main street at a red light when the light turned green and all cars drove away and the truck approaching me assumed I would drive also but couldn’t because the car was stalled in the middle of the road. The truck veered away as last second to avoid my stationary car. The 2nd time was on expressway during traffic when stop and go driving was occurring and my car engine died again. As in previous case, vehicle behind me anticipated I would move forward like other cars but couldn’t and stopped inches from back bumper.

Equipment problem #34

While driving the sunroof shattered. I felt a weird pressure than it shattered.

Equipment problem #35

Attempt to accelerate and will not accelerate and car start overheating and bad odor smog coming out from the exhaust. Dealer foud the following, concern scanned for codes, found codes p111100, p030000. P030100, p030300, p030400 abnormal combustion detection for any cylender, ramdon cylinder misfire detected cylinder #1,2,3,4 misfire detected, performed fuel test found alcohol at 5% found fuel was discolored and smell varnish or contaminated, dealer still have the car and they want us to pay for the repairs and void the warranty, we contact the state to do a fuel test to the gas station and everything is with the guidelines base on the report, looks like the car is deffective and something needs to check.

Equipment problem #36

I was driving on the highway & my sunroof exploded. Glass was shattered & rained down on me & my occupants. 1/the sun roof - I have since vacuumed the mess, but it is still not repaired. Available for inspection if needed until I get it into the shop. 2/ I was driving 65 mph when the loud noise (phone gave a warning of decibal level not safe) - broken glass & glass 'dust' blowing on us / breathed in by us. The shock of it happening when surrounded by busy traffic on a highway. 3/I have made many calls into Hyundai to get it taken care of - they are not returning my calls. 4/I initially took it into a dealership (ken garff-surprise) & they did not seem interested in inspecting - had a glass company reach out to me to replace the sunroof thru my insurance. 5/no warning at all.
