My 2023 Hyundai tuscon has 36000 miles. Started running rough with a slight noise. First noticed on wed [xxx]. On Thursday [xxx] I went to start my car and it stalled. Finally after letting it sit a few minutes it started but only to have the sgi light flash yellow and stay yellow for the remainder of the drive. That day I made an appt at my local Hyundai dealership in brandon florida. They kept my car. Fast forward, Monday September 15th I was notified that the car had lost a significant amount of oil. Car was inspected and free of any leaks. Tech stated because of the low oil & oil pressure the battery life was significantly impacted. I would need an oil change & new battery. Upon arriving back I came across an article stating that excessive oil consumption is common among these vehicles and the dealer wasn't even going to notify me of this issue. They were not honest and I want to file a formal complaint knowing that this is well known issue. I feel unsafe driving my children around and am upset that a recall has not been issued to fix this. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Engine misfiring, causing low power on interstate 70 also losing brake control.
On June 3, 2025, I experienced a terrifying and dangerous incident while driving my 2023 Hyundai Tucson hybrid on a three-lane road at approximately 50 mph. Without any warning, the gas pedal became completely unresponsive, and the car abruptly decelerated from 50 to 20 mph. This sudden loss of acceleration was incredibly frightening, especially with vehicles close behind me that nearly collided with mine. There were no warning lights or check engine alerts. Fortunately, I was able to safely cross all lanes and pull over before having the vehicle towed to a local Hyundai dealership. I shudder to think what might have happened if this had occurred on a highway at higher speeds. This is not the first time I’ve experienced serious issues with this vehicle. In February 2024, at about 17,000 miles, I received an urgent alert recommending a system check. At that time, the car was revving while idle and would occasionally lurch at low speeds. The dealership had difficulty diagnosing and resolving the issue, and my vehicle remained in the shop for over a month before they ultimately replaced the oxygen sensor. Since then, the car has continued to lurch intermittently — for example, when backing out of a parking space or in stop-and-go traffic. In fact, approximately 10 minutes before the June 3 incident, the vehicle lurched several times while moving slowly in traffic. When the car began to lose speed during the most recent incident, I pressed the gas pedal all the way down, but it failed to respond at all. I believe the current issue may be related to the unresolved problems from last year and represents a significant and recurring safety concern. I’ve also read in Tucson owner forums that other drivers have experienced similar issues, suggesting this may be part of a broader, systemic defect. At this point, I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. I truly believe this car is a lemon. This vehicle is still at the dealership, but they have not given me any updates yet.
The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed while merging onto a highway, but the vehicle lost forward momentum. The contact stated that the message "limited to 20 mph" was displayed on the instrument cluster. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact stated that the engine was not revving. The contact pulled off the highway and into a parking lot. The contact turned the vehicle off and on, and normal driving was resumed. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and was occurring while accelerating. Additionally, the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle in the morning, the vehicle would jump forward while still in park (p). Additionally, the contact stated that the horn had stopped functioning after the last loss of forward momentum but had returned to normal function a few days later. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 26,500.
2023 Hyundai Tucson with just over 14,000 miles failed to accelerate. After completing a right turn the vehicle seemed like it went into neutral. A green warning light appeared stating limit 20 mph. I now know this is “limp mode”. Turning the vehicle off and back on seemed to resolve the issue. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. They found nothing wrong. I was told to take a picture of the warning next time. I was fortunate to not have caused an accident. This is incredibly dangerous.
The car turned off while I was driving. Everything went black. I was able to coast to the side of the road.
On Tuesday August 6th 2024 car was put in the shop for an automatic dtc notification/check engine light. Our car is less than a year old with less than 10,000 miles on it. Our car was in the shop for a full 5 days and was given to us on the evening of Monday August 12th with assurances that it was safe to drive. While in the shop, our car grounding pump and numerous fuses were replaced. On Friday August 16th, we received a jarring "check Hyundai system. Stop safely. " message while driving a short distance. We were given roughly 5-10 seconds before the car braked and stopped, causing us to almost be rear ended from the car behind us. This put not only me and my passenger's safety at risk, but the safety of the cars nearby us at that time, at risk. We shudder at the thought of what could have happened if we were traveling on a highway or congested roadway. There were no warning lamps or symptoms that would have suggested this would happen. We received a tow to the shop early morning of August 17th and to date, the car remains in the shop. We are confident that the car will not pass it's upcoming inspection and have requested that the service dealership perform an inspection before they attempt to give it back to us. I feel strongly that we are not safe driving this vehicle. Our local Hyundai service dealership employees have implied that they feel a recall of this car is forthcoming because they have begun to identify this issue in many cars. Given Hyundai's recent track record with recalls, I am extremely concerned for my safety.
When pulling out of my driveway onto street, I lost acceleration. My vehicle would not go oer 35 mph and the rpms were revving up too 5000 without speed moving. I tried changing the drive mode to fix it, that did not help. I pulled over,s topped the car and restarted and all seemed normal. This has happened 2 other times since I bought the car. The other 2 times was while I was on the interstate the engine stopped engaging and I could not accelerate. Both times the issue corrected itself by the time I could get safely out of traffic. This is a major accident concern as there is no warning before this happens.
Oil was leaking when we bought the car. By the time of the first service at the dealer (~7,500 miles), I had noticed the plastic underbody cover has some smeared oil that was making it past the plastic cover and fasteners. I had assumed they would catch any problems, but after the service they did not mention seeing anything, so I kept a closer eye on it. Brought it back about 1 to 2 months later (fall 2023) after dripping started occurring (oil was leaking faster, and making it past plastic underbody cover). They sent me home after wiping it up and telling me that there was no leak (there was clearly a leak, and I even showed them photos I had taken). I watched it for 2 more weeks, then brought it back in after taking more photos and showing them again that there was definitely a leak. They confirmed leak (after seeing the car for the 3rd time). Said it was the oil pan gasket, so they put a new gasket in. Earlier in 2024, started noticing oil leak again. Brought it back to the dealer's service department, and they said it's the same problem. They are planning to replace the oil pan this time to fix the issue, but have to wait on part. At this point, vehicle has been at the dealership's service department 4 separate times for the same issue that has not yet been resolved. Brand new car leaking oil that they are struggling to fix.
Engine would not accelerate after stopping at a store. Limped home at 15 mph. Engine light came on a few miles from home. Vehicle would not stay running the next morning and had to be towed to dealership. Problem was an injector that the seal had failed on causing the engine to flood with gasoline. Dealership stated they had seen multiple injector failures and replacement parts now have a different part number implying the injector has been redesigned. Hyundai refused to replace the other injectors as they had not failed yet (they did replace the one that failed). I went ahead and paid to replace the other three. I live in montana. If I had lost acceleration going up a steep incline or in heavy traffic or car engine failed to stay on in remote area in sub zero temperatures it could have had detrimental consequences.
The hybrid system has twice now failed on this vehicle shortly after starting it up. The second incident, I drove not even 300 feet, got onto a main, very busy road, and the system made a loud grinding noise, error messages came on the infotainment system and dash and the car stopped moving. It basically stalled without stalling. I was nearly hit from behind but thankfully a quick thinking pedestrian noticed and flagged the car behind me to stop. It took 5 minutes to get the car to reset and move but meanwhile it kept saying I need to hit my brake pedal to shift gears. I was in drive and I attempted to use my brake, to park, reverse, etc and nothing happened. As I attempted to drive to turn my vehicle around and get home it kept telling me I needed to hit the brake pedal to shift the vehicle (an automatic). This is the second time this vehicle stalled in three weeks and it has already once been repaired.
On four occasions in the last five weeks, I have been driving at relatively low speed (20-30 mph), and when I attempt to accelerate, the vehicle will not accelerate when I press the gas pedal. The tachometer shows the rpms are maxed out, but the vehicle does not accelerate no matter how hard I press the gas pedal. I have to pull off the road, turn off the vehicle, and restart to fix it. I am certain I have not accidentally hit any buttons or switches each time. I have tried changing drive modes (eco/normal/sport) and using the paddle shifters and that has no effect. Cruise control is off, and no other speed limiting system is activated. There are no warning lights or indicators when this occurs. This is incredibly dangerous, as I am unable to get up to speed on a main road. A few instances led me to be unable to successfully merge onto a main road, which has led to me almost being rear-ended on one occasion, and the most recent instance I was in the left lane of a main road and attempting to pass a large truck and could not maintain speed. I was fortunate to come upon a slight downhill slope and was able to coast across the right lane and get off the road, but it was a near-accident. The dealer service center was unable to diagnose the issue, and therefore could not repair it.
This Hyundai Tucson was 3 months old when the transmission started to shudder and miss gears. I immediately took it in to ken garff Hyundai and the service advisor drove the car and said nothing is wrong with the car and that the transmission needs to break in and sent me on my way. The Tucson did it again while in traffic and the vehicle would not go and I had to put my hazard lights on and let the car struggle in changing gears to get it off the road. The car was towed in to peoria larry miller Hyundai and this was documented by that dealership of the car shuddering and that they thought it was from my insurance plug in device. I explained that the car did it before the plug in. I removed the plug in device and the car continued to shudder. On February 13th while backing out of my garage the car began to shudder while in reverse and I continued down the road while the transmission refused to change gears. It almost sounded aa if the car was in neutral and the car would on go no more than 3mp. I had the gas pedal floored and the car would not go. I reparked the car back at my home and called Hyundai for a tow. The tow came and the tow driver stated that the seemed as if it is in neutral as he drove it up on to the tow truck. After getting the vehicle to the dealership I was told from the service advisor that this is an ongoing problem with Hyundai's dual clutch transmission and this sounds like the problem.
The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mhp, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed an engine misfire in cylinder #3. The cylinder #3 was replaced and the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle later experienced the same failure and was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that cylinder #4 was faulty. The cylinder #4 was replaced and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had issued a TSB for the failure that included all four cylinders were faulty. The failure mileage was 15,000.
On 6/26/23 I was driving the Tucson. I was stopped at a light in traffic waiting for the light to change. Suddenly the icons on the dashboard turned red and started flashing. A message “engine off” displayed and the engine turned off. I was able to turn the vehicle back on and was able to drive. The automatic shut off of the engine while driving presents a safety risk.
Unknown what fails. After driving approximately 30 minutes on a highway, car suddenly stops accelerating and bucks a bit as it slows. Must turn off car and turn it back on to accelerate again. Happens on the highway frequently. Very dangerous as there’s no way to accelerate. Only stop. It’s like it can’t find a gear and the engine revs. It happened 6 times during a 2. 5 hour drive.
The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the oil warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and checked the oil level and became aware that there was no oil in the engine. The contact added oil however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the dealer confirmed that there was no oil in the engine however, the cause of the failure was not found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that an oil consumption test needed to be performed. The failure mileage was 49,000.
Oil pan leak. A lot of owners aren’t aware their oil pan is leaking cause the dealer offer a 3 years complimentary service. I only notice mine is leaking cause I changed my own oil now. Dealers won’t fix anything under warranty unless customer tell them. Hyundai mechanic on youtube say it’s a common problem.
My son was backing out of a parking spot at a strip mall. He released some pressure on the brake and indicated that the car lurched backwards and even though he reapplied full pressure to the brakes, he hit the car at the curb resulting in damage to our Tucson, but luckily not the to the other car. The rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist system did not engage, but my son indicated that the rear distance warning system did beep. I am concerned due to the sudden acceleration/lurching incident my son experienced and this is not acceptable in any car. I ask the NHTSA to see if other Hyundai Tucson or kia sportage owners, especially with the hybrid engine are experiencing this.
2023 Hyundai Tucson hybrid blue issue: no power /accelerator response from slow speed. Since 4/23- 9 instances involving this issue none resulted in crashes but did result in near misses and 2 cases coasting off the edge of the road to avoid being hit. 6 of the instances happened when attempting a left turn in traffic at an intersection. 3 of the instances involved when trying to enter a traffic circle(turning right). In all of the instances the vehicle was in eco mode. Description of intersection instances: left turn with a blinking yellow arrow traffic light signal. I approached the intersection in the left turn lane slowed and was coasting forward. The vehicle had shift to ev mode. There was a gap in oncoming traffic and I hit the accelerator to cross. No response I pressed the accelerator to the floor and still no response. I lifted my foot off the accelerator and jammed it back down and had power but now the oncoming traffic was on me. Fortunately, only one car that did hit their brakes and honk. This same scenario happened two more times at the same intersection as well as three other times in city traffic. No power when entering a traffic circle: I approached the traffic circle slowed and coasted forward waiting for the cars in the traffic circle to clear. There was a gap and I hit the gas and not power. Pedal to the floor and no power. Traffic was on me and I turned the steering wheel hard to the right and drove off the edge of the road to not get hit. I had three passengers with me at the time. The same scenario happened two more times- where I hit the gas no response but these times I let up off the accelerator all the way and then pressed it down and had full power. This resulted in about a 3-4 second delay from when I first realized I did not have power to having power. I did check 4 a recall and none found. However, I did notice another complaint citing the same issue w-hybrid on nhtsb site. But in error listed under reg Tucson.
When driving the car and stopping at red lights, stop signs, or any other stops in traffic on roads and expressways, the car engine randomly dies and cannot restart between 3 and 10 mins. There is no warning when this is about to happen – the car engine simply dies and dashboard lights come on. There is no response from the car after shifting in neutral or park by pressing the start button with foot on brake. After some amount of time, the car will start. There is no warning before this is going to happen. The dealer (patrick Hyundai) has inspected the car three times and has not been able to reproduce the problem as this happens randomly. They told me on my third visit to not bring the car back as they don't know what the problem is. The first time this happened was 4 months after I owned the car and has happened in excess of 6 times I now fear for my life when I drive this car. I was almost hit twice. I was stopped on a busy main street at a red light when the light turned green and all cars drove away and the truck approaching me assumed I would drive also but couldn’t because the car was stalled in the middle of the road. The truck veered away as last second to avoid my stationary car. The 2nd time was on expressway during traffic when stop and go driving was occurring and my car engine died again. As in previous case, vehicle behind me anticipated I would move forward like other cars but couldn’t and stopped inches from back bumper.
The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and then lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, a fuel odor was detected while driving. The vehicle was able to be restarted, and the contact drove to a nearby gas station to park the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the dealer had previously replaced two fuel injectors due to water in the fuel tank. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.
I purchased a new vehicle in February 2023. After a month and a half, I traveled to washington DC on a pleasure trip. After my work/vacation trip when I am returning back to home all of the sudden, there was heavy smoke from the hood and eventually tried to turn off the engine but the car didn't respond, and when I tried to open the hood in order to cool down the engine I see fire already in the engine. So, there was no intimation on the dashboard about the fire or not even an alert. Moreover, the engine didn't turn off even after trying to turn it off 4- 5 times. I was really worried about what would happen if the door locks stops working.
I leased my 2023 Hyundai Tucson from your authorized dealership south shore Hyundai in NY March 18,2003. I received the vehicle with 34 miles on the digital odometer at approximately 1750 eastern standard time. At approximately 2030 eastern standard time with the vehicle at 62 mile on the digital odometer. I was driving with my family, which is made up of my wife, daughter 22yrs old and son 14 years old on the wantagh parkway south approximately location 40. 740739,-73. 544842 at the speed limit of 55 mph. I began to hear knocking noise from the front of the vehicle that progressively got louder. Then immediately the check engine, brake, oil, key with car, battery, open doors, every light that the dashboard has came on. Immediately the whole vehicle lost power and I could no longer accelerate. The steering wheel got stiff and the vehicle had no response to brakes. The vehicle started stuttering. The engine died, rpms at 0 and no response on the accelerator, brakes and steering. The vehicle would not start. I tried push start several times start the vehicle, remote start, app start and putting the remote close to the push start with no results. I felt helpless and in a very dangerous situation that this brand new Hyundai vehicle put my family and me in. My family’s life was at the mercy of a 62 mile brand new 2023 Hyundai Tucson sel that I received less than 2 and half hours ago from a certified dealership south shore Hyundai in NY. We were stuck in the left lane in the middle of the wantagh parkway south bound with nowhere to go with the median divider to my left and to the right it was a fully active lane of on coming traffic in order to reach the safety of the shoulder. My family and I had to cross a full active lane of on coming traffic to get to the shoulder safely. We were able to get to the shoulder safely. The safety hazards presented by this vehicle created is dangerous to America families. Brand new vehicle should not suddenly shut off. Put the public in danger.
I was driving to work taking the same route I have since I purchased the vehicle when I lost acceleration on the road. I was unable to go above 40 mph and I had the gas pedal pressed all the way to the floor. I was going uphill and the lack of acceleration could have caused an accident if there was not enough space behind me and the vehicle behind me.
Two days after purchasing this vehicle brand new, I received a "low oil" alert. I took it to the nearest Hyundai dealership where a salesman filled the engine with oil. Only a couple hundred miles later I received another "low oil" alert. I have been attempting to solve this issue with Hyundai, however, they are insistent that I must complete an oil consumption test, which takes 3,000 miles of testing to complete. This vehicle is burning oil, and burning oil fast. I do not know where the burnt oil is going, but if it is going through the exhaust system and catalytic converter this may be a fire hazard.
