On or about may 1, 2025, I was operating my 2013 Hyundai Veloster when flames were observed emanating from under the hood. I immediately pulled into the median and, upon opening the hood, observed an active fire beneath the plastic engine cover. I contacted 911. Before the fire department arrived, a passerby extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters from a nearby station arrived shortly thereafter and fully doused the engine compartment. The vehicle was subsequently towed to a Hyundai dealership. At that time, I was aware of an active recall related to potential brake line issues that could result in an engine compartment fire. After the vehicle remained at the dealership for an extended period, I was informed that Hyundai motor America (“hma”) would send an inspector. Approximately 30 days later, I was contacted by hma’s corporate office and asked to provide documentation, including a copy of the title and insurance information. During this call, I was advised that while repair or replacement of the vehicle was unlikely, hma would “make me whole. ” shortly thereafter, I received written correspondence from hma stating that, following its review of the inspection results, documents, and other information, no product defect was identified as the cause of the incident. The letter concluded that hma would not accept responsibility and denied my request for assistance or compensation.
The hvac control knob overheated and burned out in my car. It scorched/charred and melted the plastic switch it was plugged into in the dash. It caused a strong burnt plastic, smokey smell inside the car while I was driving. I thought the car was on fire at first. Thank goodness it wasn’t but it really could have started a fire in the dash of the car under the right conditions. I’ve read numerous accounts online of this same exact issue on this year/model, but no action has been taken by Hyundai to rectify this dangerous design flaw. I’ve also read that it can and usually happens again to the replacement control knob and plug. It’s absolute insanity to replace it with the exact same part knowing full well that it’s most likely going to do the same exact thing again. What if it does cause a fire in the dash the next time while I’m driving? it could possibly severely injure or kill me and any passenger in the car in addition to putting other drivers at risk from a mobile flaming inferno.
Abs component and or fuse is causing pre ignition in the motor thus causing abnormal rpm’s when idling or driving thus further causing damage to the vehicle itself.
The blower fan only blows slightly and the knob does not work. This was a known issue with the 2014, but not the 2013. This causes a significant safety concern to someone living in extreme heat, especially children and the elderly.
The climate control knob does not function properly on my car. I removed the climate control panel from my car and found metal parts of the knob to be black and burnt and plastic parts to be melted and disformed causing the part to malfunction. All that’s needs to be replaced to fix the problem is the knob itself on the climate control panel. However, the knob is not sold individually and you must buy the whole climate control panel which costs over $200. It also seems to pose a potential fire risk if it heats up to the point that parts are melting/burning.
The trunk latch is defective; the trunk flies open when you hit a bump. There are a lot of cars with the same problem.
Unknown: 1) was parked and car took longer than normal to start. 2) after starting and shifting gears, car would not move forward or backwards. 3) towed to mechanic and they couldn't find anything wrong. Note: all gauges were on and was able to shift as normal.
The heater fan switch is failing the same way Hyundai technical service bulletin 10-01-070 describes the issue for 2014 and 2015 Hyundai Velosters but the TSB is not applicable to my 2013 Hyundai Veloster even though my heater fan switch is exhibiting the same issues. The youtube videos I have seen regarding this heater fan switch failure show that the switch is melting down in the dashboard due to poor electrical contacts which could result in a fire in the dashboard.
Veloster has three doors. At the same time, for no apparent reason, both passenger side doors failed to open from the outside. In researching this problem, I found many Hyundai's have door problems. It starts with not opening from outside, then will not open from inside or outside. The safety hazard is getting trapped in the car and not being able to open a door for escape or someone from outside trying to help and they cannot get the door open to help. The problem has been identified by an independent service center and there are many references to Hyundai door locking problems on the internet. This has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives. No warnings, the doors just failed to open, 2 of my 3 doors failed. Fortunately, I had one door to use. If someone was in the small backseat it would be very difficult to crawl out to the front to exit.
I bought the 2013 base version Veloster w/ 80,000 miles on it back in 2021, beginning of January having no problems with the vehicle. Halfway through the month my Veloster started having on and off transmission problems, then at the end of the month, not even a month into owning the vehicle , my car won’t go into gear and my gear light is blinking on my dashboard. I do my research and see alot of Velosters have this problem, but don’t know the reason for it. So I proceed to take it to a trusted mechanic that does a diagnoses and determines I need a new tmc module, and also determined nothing else was wrong with the car. I had to wait 8 months to get the part from the Hyundai dealership and finally when they get it fixed, they tell me to take it to the Hyundai dealership to get it reprogram, because the car was put into limp mode after the new module was put in. After I picked up my vehicle, I took it to the dealership. I left them with all the information and insist that I only want to reprogram my tcm module. They proceed to do a diagnosis on my car and call me the same day, saying they have a recall on the rode bearings and also that I need a new transmission, and will replace it for 7,100$. I was mortified. The vehicle is only 80,000, and I already have to replace the transmission after buying the vehicle, I feel scammed. If I see that thousands of people are having this same problem, I believe it needs to be address.
While on the highway my car slowed down and would not accelerate. Prior to this, the car had been running completely fine. My car has about 93,000 miles on it currently. I towed my car 20 miles to my long time and trusted mechanic. He says my car has an oil consumption problem. Apparently this is a very common issue with Hyundai Velosters, and from what I've read most people decide to avoid the headache and runaround that Hyundai gives them when reporting the issue. They instead opt to trade their vehicles in. Would this issue warrant a recall? given the fact that Hyundai knows this is a recurring problem in this vehicle? not to mention, this is a huge safety concern! my car literally stalled on a highway.
When stoppibg or coming to full complete stop car seems to feel like it is goibg to stall out and kind of shimmery and shakes a little right before stopping also when starting from a complete stop it alot of the time feels like it is going to stall out as well. There is alot of engine noise as well that does not seem like it is a good thing.
A/c switch malfunctioning, has been replaced 4 times.
While driving, car transmission disengaged, even though engine running. Instrument tach read 0, instruments panel seemed dead. Able to restart engine twice but unable to move. Exited car and locked, waited 30 secs. Able to restart car again then drive. Has happened twice within 5 miles of home.
The speed control panel is not working and the horn is not working either.
The car stalls in the middle of traffic. As I come to a red light, or try to accelerate when a light turns green the car stalls. Takes a few restarts / a few minutes to work again. But then happens soon after. It has been happening for a few days now and I thought it would be a one off situation.
Ac control switch replaced 4 times and the cruze switch has wire problem.
I was involved in an automobile accident while my car was in motion on a city street. My car would not brake at the red light causing a collision with an intersecting vehicle. My front is damaged and the back passenger side. Car collided twice. The airbags did not deploy.
Engine cylinder misfires . Even after changing spark plugs and coil packs. Especially when eco mode is off(in montion, accelerating) . When traction control cuts power seems to also attribute to misfiring and which has lead to unsettling idle.
Base of the affected panoramic roof, water filtration into the vehicle.
The knob on to the ac and heat in the vehicle burned out and doesnt work. According to main websites, this issue happens alot and continues to be an issue for many even after it's been replaced.
Contol assy-heat, part number 97250-2v010-blh heats up and melts all switches and wiring and causes a fire hazard.
Driving on interstate, all lights flashed on, engine light remained on and my car stalled and would not accelerate. I had to take it out of drive, put it in sport mode and then back to drive. It would shake violently if I went above 45 miles an hour, I was 130 miles from home. This is not first time this has happened, have made previous complaints.
Ac knob stopped engaging and only fan only runs on one setting also the rear hatch button stopped working.
Panoramic glass implosion - while driving 70 pmh down the freeway, the closed glass roof section imploded sending shards of shattered glass thought out the paseenger compartment.
I purchased my 2013 Hyundai Veloster in fall of 2015 as second owner from world Hyundai in matteson, IL. It had roughly 32,000 on the odometer. After two decent years of relatively trouble free ownership the "electrical gremlins" attacked the trunk release, then the reverse camera, then the climate control knob. I was reluctant to take the car in again because I had spent more money on diagnostic charges than I had on items that were covered. I liked the vehicle and meticulously maintained it to spec as well. On one of the coldest days in winter of 2019, I went out to start up my Veloster and was terrified by a loud metal ticking followed by rattling in the motor. I immediately shut down the car. I waited a bit then tried to start it again. It was very bad. I took the car to the closest Hyundai dealership in which I described all the issues with the car. At this point the vehicle has roughly 92000 miles on the odometer and of course the tell me there is nothing they can do but, replace the motor for around $4500 , sell me a new one, or buy it in trade. Once again I paid over $430 in diagnostic fees with no coverage or help. Looked around on line and found that these vehicles has had all of the above issues and no clear solutions to any. I've also noticed that all of the issues I have had with my vehicle many others have posted on youtube, google etc. , but not many have filed official complaint. Come on people! get on board!.
Air bag warning cluster light is always on. The horn doesn't work.
While driving home my car suddenly caught fire. The manufacture had just replaced the fuel in injections system 2 weeks prior.
My steering wheel makes a clicking noise when turning or shifting the wheel from side to side. The steering wheel isn't tightly secured. In addition, the buttons on the steering wheel for voice control, etc. No longer works.
My fianc and I was driving down the interstate when all of a sudden my sunroof exploded on my 2013 Hyundai Veloster.
The a/c fan has all but stopped working. I'm lead to believe this is a result of the materials that you were used when constructing the fan regulator knob and them melting. There are people complaining about it all over the internet but mine went up shortly after the car is outside of warranty for this coverage (based on mileage). The fan will blow only when positioned precisely right.
My son's 2013 Hyundai Veloster's sunroof exploded violently while parked in our house drive way. The insurance company was contacted, but because of our insurance deductible the expense will not be covered by them. The car was taken to the Hyundai dealer and they would not take responsibility for the damage, despite they had done some recalls on this issue, but were never notify of this recall or of the possibilities that this could happen. . I find it unfair that we have to pay for a damage that has to do with manufacturing of such sunroofs by Hyundai. It is clear to us now that this is a very terrible ,dangerous and common issue with this type of vehicles sunroofs because of its size. I am filling this complain because I want to know what measures has the government taken to make sure that the automobile industry, in our case the Hyundai , is manufacturing safe cars. From my reading related to this issue I am now aware that the auto industry and government safety regulators are well aware of the present safety hazards, that can very well end up been deadly. Please advise me on how I can approach this issue with Hyundai. To clarify the vehicle was stationary and the temperature was approximately 70%, we do live in south, florida and the temperatures can go very high, so I am very afraid that this can happen again and I do fear for my son's safety. As of now we are going to have to pay $720. 00 for this repair that we have nothing to do with it. Sincerely janneth quintero.
The ac fan control switch on the dash melts on the back of it and causes the switch to only work on speed 1 and in some cases not at all. Now ive researched this multiple times and many many people have had the same issue that im having and some have even had their while car catch fire. So to better explain im adding a youtube link that explains what has happened. . Read more...
The fan knob only works on certain speeds if you have it precisely in a certain spot, and the plug behind the part that plugs it in is burnt. I have seen several others with this same issue. It is a fire hazard as sometimes it smells like burning electrical.
Driving down interstate and sunroof exploded. Did not what happen ay first. Loud explosion scared me to death. Glass flying during rush hour traffic. The sunroof was in the closed postion and all of a sudden boom.
