The vehicle was taken to the contact's family-owned auto repair shop, where the high-pressure fuel pump was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the high-pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced for the second time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while her husband was driving approximately 20-25 mph, he heard an abnormally loud sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle started to shake with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated her husband was able to pull to the side of the road, where he noticed that smoke was coming from under the hood. Additionally, there was oil leaking from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a large hole in the cylinder block. The fire was started due to a mixture of fuel and oil.
