1 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 11/26/2022

No lamp messages, however the front and rear windshield wipers will not stop when put in the off position. Windshield sprayers will not activate. I've had to pull the fuses to the wipers, though now the wipers work when turned on, but will not seat themselves nor does the sprayer mechanism work still. In neither situation of fuses in or not, I have no intermittent on options for either front or back windshield wipers. When driving, if I get spashed with snow/slush, I lose all visibility; and can only blindly pull over use a spray bottle and hand towel to clean my windows. I have been finding that this is a problem with not just my vehicle, but that it is a repeat problem for multiple people with the same car make and model. I hope nobody is ran over because a driver can't see due to faulty windshield wiper controls.

I opened the automatic felt cover to where the sunroof does not open as well only the felt cover will open. I completely started my car so that it's now running and this is when my sunroof made a loud popping sound almost like a gunshot and started opening unprovoked then completely shattered over both of our heads.

7 Wiper problem of the 2014 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 12/11/2019

The ac/heater blower motor controller in this vehicle and every model that shares the same style knob has a serious defect. Along with the fire hazard this presents it also effects the use of defrost which can be a serious issue in some climates and the switch may fail completely rendering the defrost functionally unusable. Attached you will see images of the inside and outside of the switch in question as well as the connector for the switch which have suffered serious heat damage. This is a fire hazard. Hyundai chose to use the switch itself as the current passing conductor instead of a relay as used by most manufacturers. This decision is clearly reflected as a negligent one with regards to the structure of the switch and incorrect gauge of the wiring used for said switch. With normal use in any position on the dial, this issue will cause the wiring of the connector, and the insides of the switch to overheat. This is not a matter of functionality, this is a matter of safety. With these low gauge wires being used for this it poses a serious risk of fire. Please see the attached photos for evidence of the switch and connector deformation caused by overheating. Please bare in mind that the switch components and connector appear to be made of pa6, a glass fiber reinforced nylon which is intended to stand up to a great deal of heat. Additionally the wire wrap (pictured below) meant to protect the wiring on this connector from rattling is made of a cloth/composite material, with the ability to melt and catch fire. This issue is a constant being down to the wiring. In motion, stationary, or otherwise has no bearing so long as the climate controls are being used. Thank you for your time.

13 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 01/16/2019

My wife has a 2013 Hyundai Veloster turbo and the hvac system has stopped functioning. After investigating the matter I discovered a manufacturer defect with the vehicle. The power wire leading to the climate control module overheated and melted the plastic connector and destroyed the climate control module. This could have started a fire. I contacted Hyundai consumer affairs and Hyundai customer care immediately to notify them of the issue and so that they would cover the repair costs fully. I also informed them of two other issues, one, the steering wheel controls are malfunctioning and two, one of the led lights in the passenger tail light is out. I received a case number from them, #15272744. I made an appointment at lancaster Hyundai located on main street in east petersburg PA and dropped the car off. I also informed them of all the issues and my findings (this was yesterday 1/18/19). This morning (1/19/19) I received a call back from service advisor david corey who left me a voicemail stating that Hyundai has declined to cover the repairs and telling me to come pick up the car. Since then I have contacted Hyundai consumer affairs and Hyundai customer care to no avail. This issue with the climate control module is well documented online and there has even been a recall for it issued by Hyundai but for some reason my wife's vehicle is not included in the recall. I have uploaded photos of the damaged connector and wiring harness as well as a photo from another Hyundai Veloster owner which shows the recall for the climate control module. I am thankful to god that the vehicle did not catch fire since my wife and two year old son travel in it every day. I just want Hyundai to do the right thing and cover the costs to repair this factory defect.

16 Wiper problem of the 2017 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 04/10/2018

On Tuesday, April 10, 2018 just after 7p the sunroof exploded - without warning - while I was driving at 70 mph on interstate 10 just east of houston. It had not been struck by an object and the highway surface is smooth concrete. Glass showered down on my and flew off the roof of my car - striking my paint and spoiler on the rear of the vehicle. I'm thankful that I did not wreck and kill myself or someone else. When it exploded, there was a loud pop that sounded like a gunshot. My heart skipped a beat as glass showered down on me. For a moment, I thought I had been shot at by a sniper - what else would cause a sunroof to explode with no warning and without the vehicle striking road debris?.

19 Wiper problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 10/03/2017

I was travelling down the interstate at around 70 mph on a clear mild day. There were no vehicles near me. I suddenly heard a loud * *. I looked in the mirrors in confusion thinking I had been or hit or shot at. Then glass started falling on me and into the interior of the car through the sides of the sunroof canvas. I pulled over to find my front sunroof panel had shattered into a million pieces. There was no way a projectile it. No vehicles close enough in front and no trees over that lane. Nothing seen by me either. Just a random explosion of glass. No extreme temps either.

20 Wiper problem of the 2014 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 09/23/2017

On 09/23/2017 I was driving on the highway on a sunny day, around 80 degrees with my sunroof closed, and the sunroof cover open to allow the sunlight in. While driving on the highway about a mile from my exit, I heard a loud bang that startled me (sounded like gunshot), all of a sudden I felt stuff hitting my head, face, and shoulders. I look up and saw my sunroof exploded with shattered glass flying all over my car and realized glass is what was hitting me face and body. Luckily, the sound of the sunroof exploding and glass flying all over the place, I was able to still keep control of my car. I slowed down to exit the highway and pull into a parking so I could get out of the vehicle and look it over. I never saw anything fly up at my car, or at my car when this happened. There were no vehicles close to me when this happened. As I looked over the car, I saw how badly the the sunroof looked and glass all over my car seats. I picked pieces of shattered glass from my hair, shirt and pants. I immediately called my insurance company to file a claim, and took pictures of the sunroof. The car was towed to a storage lot until the body shop was open on Monday. I requested for a local Hyundai dealership to look at it first before the auto-body shop because my car is still under warranty. A gentleman from dealership's service department took pictures of sunroof and submitted to Hyundai on 09/26 to investigate the claim. On 09/28, that service advisor from the dealership left me a voicemail that the claim was denied. I called and spoke to that service advisor to obtain a reason for the claim being denied. He said Hyundai's investigation revealed an outside influence cause the glass to break, but I was provided with no report or any other explanation on how they came to this conclusion. I saw some 2012 Velosters were recalled for sunroofs exploding. It's a huge liability.

21 Wiper problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 06/05/2017

Faulty sun visor- visor mirrors malfunction as well as the visor interior was poorly made as the visor separates from the interior of the car. While driving this poses a danger as the visor mirror can fall out or the actual visor can flip down. Visors need to be replaced.

22 Wiper problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 03/20/2017

I was driving down the interstate when I heard a bang and saw that the back part of my sunroof had shattered. There were no projectiles found.

23 Wiper problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 12/21/2016

The Hyundai Veloster 2012 had a recall a few years ago concerning the sudden explosion of the panoramic sunroof. I took in my vehicle immediately to be checked out and was told the sunroof was fine. While driving the vehicle at about 65/70 miles per hour on the highway during rush hour, an extremely loud bang occurred. I immediately associated the loud bang as a gun shot. Glass from the ceiling fell into the vehicle and on my body as the sunroof cover ripped open. I was so startled, that I ducked trying to protect myself as glass was falling onto me while driving. I was able to turn on my hazards and pull over on the side of the road. Although, I did not speak to any witnesses, I am certain the semi-truck driving beside me saw what occurred as he turned on his hazards and slowed down to let me over. I was literally shaking from being so scared and caught off guard. I got out of the car to see what had occurred and my sunroof had exploded. The entire glass portion of the sunroof was gone except for the edges, which were left cracked. I attempted to take a picture, but it was dark and I was on the highway, which was not safe. My vehicle has been at the Hyundai dealership since 12/21/16. I could not reach anyone at the service department, even though I called during hours of operation. I was then instructed to leave the vehicle over night. As of 5:48 pm on 12/22/16, I was told the service department is waiting on instruction from Hyundai's corporate office and have not been provided a vehicle. Although, I did not suffer any serious injuries, I am very worried about the safety of others driving this vehicle. Not only is the glass itself dangerous, but the sound was so startling it could cause someone to veer off into other vehicles causing great bodily injuries. I had not opened the sunroof for days, perhaps even weeks as it has been very cold.

24 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

When driving at highway speed the sunroof exploded and sent glass flying into and around car. There was nothing nearby that could have hit and damaged the sunroof so violently, and the incident seems to be caused by the same manufacturer defect as 2012 Hyundai models covered in the recall. The car is a 2013 turbo model though, so it is not covered by the recall. This could have easily have caused an accident if I wasn't aware of the problem in advance so I could understand what was happening and react accordingly. Hyundai will not acknowledge the problem since its outside of the initial warranty despite the fact that its consistent with the other sunroof recall. Other problems include having to have a clutch replaced at 45000 due to another manufacturer defect (car wouldnt accelerate in 1st or 2nd gear), and needing an engine replaced at 60000 for an unknown reason. I bought the car brand new (drove off the lot with 12 miles on odometer) and have had all maintenance, including oil changes, done by the Hyundai dealership. So far the car is giving me more problems the longer I own it.

25 Wiper problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 03/02/2016

Sunroof exploded while the car was being operated along the highway. There was a sudden loud noise like a shot from a firearm. Then the glass from the sunroof started to fall into the interior of the car. There was damage to fabric liner that conceals the sunroof, and the rear spoiler. There might be other damage yet to be discovered.

30 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

While traveling on a highway at 70 mph the sunroof violently explode and the cover started jumping up and down dropping glass all over the interior. It sounded like a shotgun going off inside the car. I really startled and luckily got the car slowed down and off the road without incident. Got it to the dealership and like most I have read they said they have never heard of this happening. With such high milage of course the warranty is out on it. So I will be stuck out of pocket for fixing it.

33 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

The windshield rear-view mirror does not dim adequately. The rear-view mirror does not have a manual dimming lever, just a row of buttons along the bottom for telephone, bluetooth, etc. Having driven the car at night, I thought it did not have any mirror dimming, so I stopped at a Hyundai dealer the next day and was informed that the mirror has a photocell that tells the mirror whether it is day or night, and the mirror automatically dims. I covered the sensor and they were correct, but the amount of dimming is far from adequate--such that when I drove the car at night, I did not realize there was any dimming at all. I had to re-aim the mirror so I could not see the headlights of the car behind me. Such re-aiming of the mirror cancels most of the safety benefits of having a rear-view mirror.

34 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

One cannot see adequately through the rear window in order to safely back up.
