1 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

While driving into the garage, the rear power liftgate opened unexpectedly striking the garage door frame and causing the rear liftgate glass to shatter. The transmission was in "drive" at the time this happened.

2 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. With half of the contact's body leaning inside the vehicle, the rear hatch came down and struck her neck. She had to release the hatch from her neck. She suffered much pain and has sought help from doctors. The contact went to the dealer and stated that she no longer wanted the vehicle; however, they refused to take it back. The manager stated that this was not a common failure. She believes it is a safety hazard for the rear hatch to fall down on its own and could cause more serious damage to others in the future.
