Purchased vehicle 9-5-03. First occurrence of violent engine surges occurred on 9-18-03. Dealership could not duplicate the problem ,and told me it should be okay. Engine surges/shifts occurred randomly over the next few months with another dangerous occurrence in December 2005 at crowded shopping mall. Dealership each time told me that unless they could duplicate the problem they would not be able to fix it. Following a trip to dealership in February 2005 dealership changed accelerator sensor which seemed to help somewhat, but speedometer went out in may. Told by dealership that would not able to fix problem(s) unless problem could be duplicated. Took vehicle in for 34-point check , and speedometer problem in October. Picked up repaired vehicle next day, however, speedometer on zero again and check engine light came on. Vehicle towed back to dealership, who changed transmission to correct problem. Picked up vehicle on 11-8-05 following repair. On 11-18-05 while slowing down at approach to busy intersection had to use both feet to bring vehicle to stop and almost hit car ahead of me. Car violently lurched forward until put in neutral, engine revved so hard I thought it was going to blow up. Turned engine off, and had vehicle towed back to dealership, who called me on 11-22-05 and told me vehicle had been repaired, but upon examination of service order, found no servicing had been done. December 12, 2005 Hyundai consumer affairs had a regional service technician perform 15 minute test drive of my vehicle. Technician stated based on his inspection there wa s nothing wrong with vehicle. Car was returned to me on January 10 2006, and sits in my driveway. I am frightened to drive it, not wanting to risk my life or others while I continue to send in monthly payments.

My Hyundai 2003 xg 350 had incidents of lurching powerfully forward or backward even though my foot would be pressed hard on the brakes. It happened three times. The third time it did it, I had it in reverse with my foot on the brakes and while my wife was trying to enter the car on the passenger seat side, the car rabbit jumbed backward and cause her injuries that warranted taking her to the emergency room on September 12 2005. I searched the internet and found out that many other owners had the same exact experience and that they all had trouble convincing Hyundai of the problem. If they can't duplicate the behavior then they refuse to fix the porblem. I try to duplicate the behavior and it took me about 15 tries to succeed. Some internet complainers report that they succeeded in convincing the dealership of the problem and had to replace the whole transmission for them. Hyunday should admit the problem and recall cars.
When the vehicle accelerated into passing gear the vehicle completely shuts down. After about 15 minutes the car will start back up. The check engine light is displayed after the vehicle stalls. The problem has been corrected twice in the span of a two or three year period. The service department said it was a computer chip that controls the acceleration.
When stopped car lurches forward. When starting off the car skips and loses power.
Consumer stated that while stopped vehicle lurched forward out of control, the dealer found nothing wrong.
The consumer stated that the vehicle would not move but plunges forward at initial 5-30 minutes driving. The dealer could not find the problem.
