The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Xg350. The vehicle caught fire while it was parked in the garage. The vehicle had been parked for 20 minutes. The failure occurred without warning. The cruise control was activated for 40 miles before the vehicle was parked. The fire originated in the engine compartment and was extinguished by the fire department. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop. The contact has pictures, if needed. The current and failure mileages were 60,000.
: the contact stated the vehicle intermittently lost power while driving at speeds above 40mph. The vehicle resumed power after brought to a stop. The only warning indicator is the tcs light flashing during the reduction of speed. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer two months ago and the dealer replaced the fuel pump, filter and lines. The problem became worse and the vehicle was returned to the dealer who recommended getting a wheel alignment and tire rotation. This was completed at an independent repair shop, but the problem continues. The vehicle has not been returned to the dealer for further inspection.

Seven instances of unwanted engine acceleration since Jan 2006. All occurrences similar: 1)engine is warm after a period of driving; 2) car decelerating approaching stop sign, traffic light, or in stop-and-go traffic; 3) a barely audible "click" is heard and the engine rpm begins to rev up making braking difficult and giving a clue that something is amiss. When this point is reached key was turned off or idle selected to see how high the rpm would rev; 4800 is the highest noted. This is a random event as the car has over 10000 miles with 7 occurrences. Latest date is noted below.

Initially (2) times there was no response from engine when gas pedal depressed, we have had 3-4 incidents of when stopped at intersection, or driving slowly in parking lot engine surges and breaks had to be applied severely to prevent car from hitting other cars, the last incident was the transmission would not shift from 1st gear and car would not go faster than 20 mph. All of these are safety issues.
When t boned at 40 mph the side air bags did not deploy, and the engine dropped. Vehicle was towed. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
