Runaway acceleration. Three times now in the last two weeks the rpms went to maximum redline without my foot on the accelerator pedal. Fortunately all occurred when I was at very slow speed and either in a driveway or a parking lot. Each time I immediately put the transmission to neutral and shut off the engine. For the first occurrence, restarting the engine all went back to normal. But for the second instance, two weeks later on restart the engine again instantly went to maximum rpm (deep redline). On a second restart, with additional delay before attempting a restart, the problem cleared. I took the car to a mechanic and they said no error diagnostics were recorded. On test drive he said he noticed some brief unexpected surges. He said for liability reasons no way he would work on the car. No warnings, no instrument indications, car does not seem to "know" throttle is at max redline.
The contact owns a 2008 Infiniti G35. The contact stated that the service engine warning indicator randomly flashed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.
New vehicle driven only 4k miles when noises started emanating from the engine compartment anytime rpms exceeded 4000. Dealer diagnosed problem as a burned out transmission requiring replacement. Had the transmission seized up while driving, it could have led to a very dangerous situation.
