36 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 06/11/2009

My fuel gauge was showing a half a tank of gas and I ran out of gas stalling in the middle of an intersection. The vehicle is out of warranty do to time frame but well within the mileage. This continues to be a problem and I have run out of gas 2 additional times. The vehicle reads full 99% of the time but will drop down to about a half a tank every now and then (but not often), usually as it gets close to being empty. The dates and mileage for this compliant are not actually but are to my best guess.

37 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 06/10/2009

This complaint relates to a 2004 infinity M45. In the summer of 2009, I noticed that the fuel gauge was showing nearly a full tank of gas, but I that was incorrect because I had not put any gasoline in it in over 3 days. The next day as I was traveling over a very busy bridge in tampa, FL, my vehicle sputtered to a stop. Since that time, the fuel gauge has not worked correctly. Shortly after that time the "check engine" light illuminated. I took my vehicle to be checked out and was advised that the repair would cost in excess of $1,000. 00. My vehicle was just outside of the 60,000 mile warranty so I went online to Infiniti's website to seek assistance but never got a reply after numerous attempts and pleas for assistance. One would think that a manufacturer such as Infiniti would take better care of it's customers. After not receiving a reply a reply online, I contacted my local Infiniti dealer and was pretty much told I was on my own with getting my vehicle repaired and offered no assistance. As of the time of my complaint, my vehicle has 86,543 miles on it. This is why I'm filing this complaint!.

39 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 03/05/2009

The fuel gauge on my 2003 Infiniti M45 is defective. It began to occur at 101,000 miles intermittently, but now is a constant problem. The fuel gauge correctly reads the tank level until about 1/2 tank at which point it severely drops, or severely rises to "full". I know this to be a problem with this particular model in the fuel gauge cluster, and tried to have it fixed at the dealer. They did not fix it under warranty, and said there was no recall, however they recognized many other owners had the same issue. Other owners have said the only way to correct the problem is to completely replace the gauge cluster, however, I will not pay for a defective part at that price, so I have been keeping track of mileage in order to time fill-ups. The danger lies in the fact that the fuel light will not come on, and the tank will read above half-full when the tank is close to empty. There is severe risk of running out of gas on the highway and causing an accident.

40 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

The contact owns a 2003 infinity M45. On March 1, 2009, while the contact was driving at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and he had to pull over to avoid a crash. When he checked the fuel gauge, it indicated that the vehicle was â¼ full with fuel but the vehicle was out of gas. The fuel gauge would also show a full tank of gas when the tank was empty. The contact planned to take the vehicle to a local repair shop for a diagnostic test. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000. The current mileage was approximately 89,000.

41 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 02/09/2009

My fuel guage read 1/3 of a tank and I ran out of gas. I bought the car used in approximately Jan 2009 and I bought an extended complete powertrain warranty. They initially thought it was my float mechanism in the gas tank but finally realized it was the dash and replaced it under warranty ($50 deductible applied). My warranty expired a few miles ago (car has 90500 miles on it now) and I have begun to notice the problem again. Currently I fill up after the trip odometer reaches 300 miles driven on a tank because while the guage appears to work accurately, once it reaches 1/4 of tank left, it begins to rise and will go as high as 3/4 full. Sometimes turning the car off and then back on will reset it but it will soon begin to rise again. Very annoying and according to the dealer the dash costs $900+ (in 2009). Ramsey Infiniti of ramsey NJ did the work in 2009.

42 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 10/10/2008

Gas gauge failure on Infiniti m-45 2003 model. Gas gauge would read full - 3/4 full when the tank was below 1/4 tank. Would lead to running out of gas unless the gas was monitored by the number of miles between fill ups. This is a dangerous situation - owners potentially running out of gas when trying to cross an intersection pull out in traffic, etc.

43 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 08/05/2008

Fuel gauge incorrectly indicated 1/2 tank of fuel, but the vehicle ran out of gas while on an interstate highway, forcing me to exit to berm. Gauge still indicates incorrect fuel level.

44 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 06/02/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Infiniti M45. The contact stated that the fuel gauge would provide erroneous fuel level readings. The contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled as a result of running out of fuel although the fuel gauge advised that the tank was full. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who verified the failure and advised that the instrument panel needed to replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

45 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 03/21/2008

I purchased my M45 from used car dealer and while driving home the car stalled during chicago rush hour traffic. The wrecker towed me back to dealership who asked if I ran out of gas - I thought not possible since the fuel gauge read 3/8. The dealership filled the gas tank and car started up. I was stranded a second time in rush hour traffic in residential area and this time my tank read 7/8. Check engine light is on (code p0462) due to low voltage level to the fuel level sensor due to faulty instrument cluster. Inaccurate fuel gauge readings could leave the driver and or their family in danger of being seriously or fatally injured in a rear-end accident if the car stalls on the interstate. Nissan Infiniti car owners club has identified no less than 50 other 2003-04 M45 car owners who have experienced this problem. Nissan north America is aware but refuses to correct the problem.

46 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Infiniti M45

Failure Date: 03/18/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Infiniti M45. The contact stated the fuel level indicator would intermittently read that the fuel tank was full when it was not and often fluctuates back and forth from empty and full. The dealer advised that the fuel sending unit would need to be replaced. There were no recalls and the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 38,417 and the current mileage was 55,521.
