Infiniti Q50 owners have reported 43 problems related to air bag (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Infiniti Q50 based on all problems reported for the Q50.
The passenger seat occupant sensor is on. Dealer confirmed the code is related to a bad sensor so even if someone is sitting in the passenger seat and we are in an accident the airbag will not deploy. The dealer said a recall exists for earlier models but not for the 2017 even though they say it’s the same components. They want to charge me between $6,000 to $8,000 to repair which is almost as much as the car is worth. This unfortunately is cost prohibitive at this time so we are driving with the known risk. The light has been on for a couple of years now as we were hoping an additional recall would come out but it hasn’t which is why I am submitting this report.

Airbag light turn on, on my dashboard, I checked it with a professional obd2 scanner and shows a code which indicates a fault in the occupant detection system (ods), which the scanner says it is very common for my vehicle. This puts my passengers at risk due to an airbag system fault. My vehicle has not been in an accident, nor has my passenger seat been messed with. I have spoken to other individuals with the same vehicle, also checked the forums for my specific vehicle and almost all of them have the same issue with the ods, with no recalls or warranty resolution from the dealership. This is a common issue. It is concerning because there is a pattern of the ods being faulty by no fault of our own but no resolution or recall.

* the passenger airbag light came on July 2025. I was not in a accident the light just came on. * 7/29/2025 I took my car in for service at infinity of las vegas (the only infinity dealership in las vegas) I asked to check why the airbag light was on. I was told the occupant sensor unit was abnormal. Sensor and module internally shorted out. Recommend to replace passenger front seat frame assembly (only available as a 1 piece both sensor and module internally shorted seat frame assy). @ $ 8678. 76. Because it’s a different seat from the original seat, I would have to also replace the seat belt. @ 116. 87. * it is not recommended to drive a car with the air bag light on. This car is my only source of transportation. * on August 4, 2025 I took my car to auto dynamic services and they suggested initial repair was to replace the occupant detection module. The part was ordered from Nissan, when they received the part it was an updated part design which was slightly larger with more pins than the original part and could not be used on my car. They reordered the part from another Nissan retailer ensuring it matched the original part for my car. Now it’s Aug. 27th, 2025. Auto dynamic received the correct replacement module. Unfortunately the part was replaced and the airbag light came on again. They also stated the seat would have to be replaced in order for the airbag light to go off. For around the same price. It cost me 1800. 00 to find this out. * I do not have money to resolve this issue especially if the driver airbag errors next, I am fearful of the unknown driving around with the airbag light on. If in an accident possibly not being covered because I was driving with a know issue. Or the bags just deploying randomly. * on [xxx] I traded a perfect running car in, I did not receive much on the trade as the airbag light is on. I can drive safely and register the car when required * it looks like there was a recall but the Q50 2. 0 turbo was not included. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of inf.

Within one month of purchase, the airbag warning light illuminated and has remained on continuously. A separate dealership later confirmed the airbag system is defective and may not deploy in an accident. This is a serious safety defect that was not disclosed to me at the time of sale. Additional issues: •on July 14, 2025, I dropped the car off for prolonged starting issues. I was told the vehicle had six faulty fuel pumps/injectors. •I have not had possession of the car since July 14. •on August 30, 2025, I received an email from Nissan of orange park stating the car was “completed and ready. ” when I called the next day, I was told the car was not at Nissan at all, but at Infiniti, with no clear repair status or timeline. Concern: this is a federal safety defect. I request NHTSA’s review and investigation into Infiniti/Nissan’s handling of defective airbag systems in this vehicle and the misleading communication surrounding repairs.
Air bag light suddenly said “passenger airbag off”. Don’t have to brake to switch gears. Steering at times feels a bit off.

The airbag/srs light is on. I've read on multiple forums that this is a common occurrence with this model and year of Infiniti. It did not come on as a result of any accident/incident.
Upon driving when purchased the engine light for the air bags illuminated. Upon researching the issue the problem seems to be a common problem for vehicles of this make and problem. 90% of the time requiring the owner to take the vehicle to the dealership. Since it is a trend and ongoing I wanted to report the issue.
I had a passenger seat belt light on and took it to jim coleman Infiniti in bethesda,MD. They then were going to charge me a diagnostic fee to fix it, but instead proceeded to perform a zero point seat reset and got the error code b00a0 and then the passenger air bag light came on. They subsequently said that the vehicle was not covered under any recall or warranty and said that the seat needed to be replaced and informed me that it would be around $8000 at that time. Now it must be more. Looking at the recall campaign 16v244000 my vehicle does not qualify since it is one model year later, but I have seen others have the same issue that I have with the 2017 Q50. There is infact one in florida that has a similar experience as mine. Talking to the dealer and Infiniti neither wanted to do a goodwill jesters and would only reduce the cost by a few thousand dollars. That still meant that I would need to put out more than $4000 to get a safety issue that should be covered. The symptoms and error codes are exactly the same. So I ask that you extend the recall campaign to the 2017 model year as well for the Q50. It is a safety hazard that will be present on the streets. The dealer also refuses to do the module reset saying that it will fail again. Pleas ask Infiniti to cover the cost of ensuring this critical safety for the passenger side is resolved for all model years that have the error code from the recall.
The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the passenger’s side seat belt warning light illuminated. The contact stated that there was no passenger located in the front passenger’s seat during the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the OCS sensor had failed, and the contact was informed that the front passenger's side air bag and the front passenger’s seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
I took the car into the dealership to diagnose the reason that I was getting a seat belt light and they said that the guide suggested to do a zero point reset on the seat. When they attempted this they said that it failed and now the system has an airbag light on. There is no more seat belt light on now for the passanger side, but there is a hard error code for the airbag system on the passenger side. The dealership now says the cost to repair is over $8500 when the car is only valued at $10000. I saw that there was a voluntary recall on a 2016 edition and it said that if the zero point reset should fail then the OCS module needs to be replaced, but now they are saying tha the OCS module and seat need to be replaced. This looks to be like an issue with the model itself. The reason this is a safety issue, is that now the airbags will not work on the passenger side. This is caused by the zero point procedure that Infiniti has instructed their techs to do. I believe they are causing issues and had this not been needed then I would not have had an airbag issue. If there was an airbag issue before this procedure then the symbol was not correct and was false. It was a safety issue since the passenger side airbag will not deploy in this case.
The seat belt light went on without a passenger and the dealer decided to perform a zero point reset on the passenger seat and that resulted in a failure and now the airbag light is on. This causes the passenger airbag to not be operational. Before it was just the seat belt. They are now asking for $8000+ to replace the seat and OCS module and they said that they would cut the price by 50% but that is still $4000. The seat belt is covered by 10 year warranty but the airbag is covered only 7 year. I feel that since the seat belt was the iniial problem that it should all be covered under the warranty. Searching online there are numerous other Infiniti owners are having the same issue with the passenger seat and they are all being told that the seat needs to be replaced. This looks to be like a fauly module issue and thiink that Infiniti should be responsible for the fix. This has been happening with models from 2014-2018 two different series of Q50 models. This causes the passenger airbag to be non operational and feel that there are a lot of Q50 and other models on the road that are no longer safe to drive!!!!.
The contact owns a 2021 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the air bag warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called an independent mechanic, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

My airbags are currently disabled due to a faulty occupant detection system. I see that this was an Infiniti recall on many2017 Q50s, but my car is not included in the recall. The dealership confirms that my car is not part of the recall. The specific part involved in the recall is the front passenger occupant classification system (OCS), which triggers the error code being produced by my car.
The airbag light came on for the passenger side. The dealership said I had to pay $246 to find out what the problem is. They told me the entire seat/airbag structure needed to be replaced at a cost of $6k-$13k. I searched the problem online and there is the exact recall for this car/problem but not my vehicle. I don’t feel like I should be responsible for a safety issue in a 7 year old car. I believe this model should be included in the recall. I also am requesting the $246 be refunded.
The car was involved in an accident, after the shop checked the vehicle it was brought to our attention that the air bags got stuck and did not deploy because of a malfunction. I was not aware of this which it could put my son in really dangerous situation. I checked for recalls and none has been open for this particular car.

The airbag passenger light is illuminated causing air bag system to remain off until resolve. The vehicle was taken in for inspection and dealer confirmed diagnostic results found occupant sensor malfunctioning. Under warranty, the sensor was covered, but after installation the system also found that wasn’t the only thing to replace. It’s a handful of sensors and harness that is integrated within the seat frame with the only solution to replace the entire chair/seat frame. This item does not fall under warranty. My concern is the safety of my family riding in the vehicle. This issue was happening to 2016 and 2017 models that were recalled for the same issue. Unfortunately this vehicle may have been manufactured in 2017, but holds the 2018 year on paper found through carmax.
Traction control did not function when needed. I had my breaks and rotors replaced two days prior to the accident, which may have had an impact on the performance of the vehicle. Insurance representatives did look over the vehicle, as it is now in their possession. However, I do not feel as though they took the time to look into my concerns. There was no warnings on the dash.

I was in a car accident during the summer, I was driving at speed limit when I came out the curve the car started sliding, and I went off the road and roll over at 4 times and ended up in a ditch upside in some water, but no airbags went off I have pictures showing so, I try to tell the dealer I bought it from car max and even my insurance but no one seem to care but now I found this page. I also had a police on site and no ticket was issued to me since no proof of me driving recklessly I did have a police report but I can’t find it since it was back in the summer.
The contact owned a 2015 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 to 10 mph, she experienced a diabetic medical emergency. The driver was unable to feel her legs or feet to stop the vehicle and crashed into the rear of an unknown SUV. The air bags did not deploy. The air bag warning light illuminated at impact. A police report was filed. The driver was taken to the emergency room by ambulance. The fire department was on the scene, but there were no reported fire. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The vehicle was later towed to a collision center. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company.
Airbag sensor light stays on instrument panel due to an issue with passenger airbag sensor under passenger seat.
The contact owns a 2016 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the air bag warning light illuminated. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 16v244000 (air bags). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 169,000.
The air bag system on a 2018 Infiniti Q50 awd is malfunctioning. I’d like to get it checked out especially if this could be a tentative recall issue for myself and other owners of the same vehicle. I feel very unsafe for my family and I because the system was never tampered with, yet the light used to go away randomly. Currently, the light is permanently on, and passenger airbag light states the system is off from deploying in case of an accident. This would mean that I would be driving at a risk of airbags being non-deployable and that is truly unsafe. This problem was not addressed with a dealer or any other service center. The vehicle has never been inspected yet, but it is a concern that I’d like to move forward on. The passenger airbag light is illuminated on my dashboard as well as the light depicting that the system is off. I recently bought this car July 2022 and within six months from purchase the light started coming on randomly and disappearing. Now it is permanently on.
Air bag light came on which can render air bag inoperable in case of collision. Dealer states not under warranty. This is their results: upon inspection, found dtc b00a0-00 to be stored in air bag system. Correction as per itb19-024b, recommend 75 zero point reset (calibrations and system reset/reprogramming not covered under warranty).
The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti Q50. While the contact was driving at 20 mph the contact struck a sewer drain causing the front driver side airbag deployed and both of the front seat seatbelts to lock. The local Infiniti dealership was contacted and they informed the contact that diagnosis fee needed to be paid in order to diagnose the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and they stated that there was nothing that could be done and that the vehicle needed to be repaired at the contact own expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
This car is being sold at nice car inc and they have erased codes from car air bags wont deploy if and accident occurs 1 turbo on car doesnt work and the car smokes runs hot the and will shut off or wont accelerate over 10 miles per hr I was not aware of this until after purchase and I had car checked out that is dangerous and hazardous they also have called using my name pretending to be me and made false insurance claims the car… I could only upload so much but a certified mechanic stated they deleted codes from vehicle and its not listed on carfax they give. They are endangering lives of americans and scamming insurance companies because the car doesnt have safety features that should work.
The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the airbag warning lights would remain illuminated while a front passenger was seated in the vehicle. The front passenger’s side air bag system message would indicate that the system was turned off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who serviced the failure under NHTSA campaign number: 16v244000 (air bags) however, the failure recurred days later. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 21,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while his son was driving at approximately 45 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. Due to the failure, his son lost complete control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's son was not injured as a result of the accident and did not seek medical treatment. The police were not called to the scene and a report was not filed. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed from the scene to an independent auto repair shop. The contact was informed by the auto repair shop the serpentine belt had shredded inside the engine which caused the failure. They also informed him that there was a service bulletin on the vehicle in relation to the failure. The contact's son reached out to the manufacturer where they both agreed to an unknown settlement. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was 28,097.
When I bought my 2014 Infiniti Q50 I put it on the road and then I started receiving recalls. I also had several lights on. I brought it back to dealership they did something like clearing the lights without even looking at it. 45 days after I bought this vehicle I was in a serious motor vehicle accident. I almost died and I lost my spleen. One of the airbags didn't deploy which was the reasoning for losing my spleen. I believe my steering locked up and ended up hitting guardrail. Total loss. I lost 4,000 because of this accident never mind I all most lost my life!!! this accident happened on the highway.
The contact owned a 2015 Infiniti Q50. While accelerating from a stop at 10 mph, another vehicle ran a red light. The other vehicle struck a pedestrian and then struck the passenger side of the contact's vehicle. The contact's vehicle then crashed into a cement divider. The contact's seven year old son was seated in the back seat. The air bags deployed, but failed to inflate. A police report was filed. The driver and rear passenger sustained injuries, which required medical attention. The passenger sustained whiplash and the driver sustained bruising to the lower back/sternum, which required x-rays, cat scans, and physical therapy. The driver also sustained headaches, nausea, and stomach issues that were possibly caused by inhaling fumes from the air bags. The driver was currently seeking an ear/nose/throat doctor. The vehicle was towed to a police impound lot. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer provided case number: 28713788 and was supposed to send a dvd on how the deployment of the air bags worked; however, the contact failed to receive the dvd. The contact found NHTSA campaign number: 16v244000 (air bags) for his vehicle, which was confirmed by the manufacturer. The vehicle was declared destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 28,429.

The dealer does not have the parts to do the recall, 16v-244. I asked when they would and they said they did not know.
Your god damned form doesn't work for me. All systems were affected. I totaled my car while driving up a hill, in cruise control, and I hit a puddle. The car accelerated into the median. I was no longer a driver; I was a passenger.
