36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 05/31/2023

My vehicle has been stalling and burning/leaking oil internally for some time now with white smoke coming from the rear. Well Infiniti sent a post card and stated that the emission warranty is extended for 120,000 miles which my vehicle has had the issue for some time and it was already over 120k miles at the time of the loss. The issue Infiniti reported in their postcard is, you may experience issue with the turbocharger, overtime there is a possibility for the turbocharger thrust bearing to wear and leak oil internally. The most likely conditions you will experience are excessive white smoke from the exhaust, mil-on an in rare cases reduced engine power or damage to the internal components. My vehicle is experiencing all these issues reported and the company, Infiniti, knows this is an issue and did not issue a recall the extended warranty instead, most people will not qualify for which will require people to thousand of dollars replacing the turbocharger assembly and engine control model. I got a quote and was told 8000 dollars unfortunately I cannot have repairs done. I believe it was January 2025 when the post card came from Infiniti identifying the issue.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 04/16/2023

4/16/2023 Sunday 5pm with my wife and daughter in the car, I started the vehicle in my driveway and selected sport mode as usual. Selected reverse and backed into our turnaround then forward to the end of our driveway. Driveway is approximately 4 car lengths long with a 20 ft long apron turnaround. Almost immediately after braking at the end of the driveway while waiting for passing traffic to exit drive, vehicle suddenly accelerated and I immediately pressed the brake as hard as I could to prevent driving into passing vehicles. I could hear the tires trying to grip/spin while I was fighting to press the brake harder to hold it t back. I then panicked and selected the gear shifter to anything other than drive and it immediately did the same in reverse. After getting in into park, I immediately selected standard mode and the vehicle performed normal afterwards. There were no warning lights or anything to indicate any issues. Previously I had noticed minor intermittent issues of high rpms when slowing or braking while in sport mode but it would immediately correct itself. I have not had a chance to take it for inspection as it's now Monday morning April 17. We were all very shaken. Please advise.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 03/18/2023

2/1/2023 we took our 2018 Q50 to the Infiniti dealership and service center. The engine was having issues, increased rpms while simultaneously experiencing loss of power/stalling. This was experienced by both my wife and I. Infiniti's determination was the mass air flow sensor and told us the issue was not covered by the platinum, bumper to bumper extended warranty they sold us due to the warranty only covering mechanical issues, not electrical. The service tech was able to get costs waived as factory warranty covered such events to 75k miles. We picked the car up on 2/8/2023. On 3/18/2023 the car was again towed to the dealership. The intermittent issue that was thought to be the mas air flow sensor and electrical, hit suddenly and with such force the car would not run whatsoever and stalled out on a very busy 50 mph parkway and my wife had to maneuver her way to safety with cars flying all around her. No obvious sign of electrical mass failure, lights still on, etc. On 3/24/2023 I received a call and was told the engine needed to be replaced, the cost was $32k, and that the warranty’s fine print says that the warranty will only cover up to the fair market value of the car, which they determined to be about $21k. I’m responsible for their faulty engine & poor mechanical workmanship? I was sent pictures of debris and springs sitting in the bottom of the dropped oil pan and a separate photo clearly showing a disintegrating cam shaft / lower engine area adjacent to the oil pan. Catastrophic and very avoidable failure (this is not an engine in a military vehicle or motorsports vehicle). I believe the problem was never the mass airflow sensor, it was the alloys used in this area of the engine that were failing. This failure is not the first for Infiniti (have been reading forums).

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 11/03/2022

The car needed new sprockets after 105k miles. I haven't seen anyone else have this problem, so my car maybe a lemon. But just in case more people start reporting it, I just want to make sure it's on record. The dealership has no idea why they'd fail, as I have had regular, full synthetic oil changes. It's a hefty repair.

I lost electrical power and after 1 minute the car is back to normal. 58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

We took our car in for its first oil change at a oil lube business and afterward our car's engine seized up about 4 miles down the road, and completely destroyed itself. After investigating, it seems the oil tech may have damaged the oil filter assembly's delicate end tip piece unbeknownst to him. It is inconclusive if he damaged it or broke it off. At a later date this oil lube business gave us an Infiniti tbs they got from our Infiniti dealership, that they nor I, had ever seen. Also it does not seem to be filed with anyone nor the NHTSA. The tbs claims that this part breaks very easily if not properly handled. Also when our problem was diagnosed by an Infiniti tech, he told us this part breaks so often, that they have to keep the item in stock in their parts department. He also said the part was missing from the engine implying that the oil lube business had broken it off, and knowingly put a broken part back in. But per video that was given to us, that is inconclusive. All we see in the video is the oil tech holding the part from the delicate end of the oil filter assembly. Per the Infiniti tbs and their tech's own words to us, the problem stems from the first oil change where the filter is very hard to get off the first time. Hence many people tend to over stress the part and the very delicate plastic end tip will get damaged or break off during the oil change. I believe this part is defective and built very weak with a plastic material that can't handle any stress on it. If during an oil change by a diy or another oil lube business like "jiffy lube" who don't know this tbs exists (which we did not because Infiniti kept it for their own techs), then there is a potential for the damaged part to be reinserted in the engine where it completely comes off inside and ruins the entire engine. This could be a life threatening hazard on the road if engine comes apart!.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

On several occasions while driving my car, it has locked up on me. I have taken the car back to the dealership three times for this same issue. The last time I took it in because my car locked up on me after coming off an highway and I was hit by another car. I took it back to Infiniti who claimed they could not duplicate this issue. Even though I pointed them to scores and scores of similar issues being reported on the internet. Infiniti's response was "anyone can write anything on the internet". I thought this comment was insensitive and downright ridiculous. Even though anyone can write anything on the internet, most people would not get on the internet to complain about a problem with their car that was not true - what would they get out of it??Infiniti's cavalier attitude has shocked me since my family have bought five Infinitis from them over the years and have never had these types of complaint. Additionally this type of issue could kill folks! is Infiniti trying to balance lives against a recall that's needed. . . . . . I am shocked and apalled!!!!!!!!!!!!.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/16/2016

Engine and/or transmission lost torque power. Since 2016 while car only had 11,000 miles all of the sudden car lost torque power while accelerating. Check engine indicator has never light up and dealer consult scanner has never found the issue. Still car doesnt have same acceleration nor torque while going 0-60mph. Already I've seen so far 4 cars of the same year with speed sensor problems and replacement. Mechanics say it begins by loosing power until stops working and car wont move.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

I live in a one family house with an attached garage. My wife parked the car, with 1/3 of a tank of gas,in our garage about 6:30 pm on August 17. She thought she had pushed the button to turn off the engine, and exited the car taking the Smart key with her. About 9 the next morning, while walking my dog, I felt heat coming from the garage and opened the door. It was very hot to touch. I then touched the car and burned my hand. I called our local fire department and they pulled the car out of the garage. The car was so hot, a cd in the door compartment melted. The firemen explained that my wife and I and our dog, could very easily have been killed by carbon monoxide and the entire structure could have burned from the heat. I have since learned that what happened to me is a common occurrence and people have died as a result. Even if the Smart key is not near the car, it will continue to run until it is out of gas.
