1 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 04/02/2026

On April 2nd I took my vehicle into the dealer for recall servicing. After leaving the dealer I had my vehicle inspected the next day by a third party repair shop and my brake caliper was missing the main bolt that connects to the brake pad. Brake pads were also less than 5% wear remaining. Myself and others were put in serious danger if my brakes had failed due to this serious oversight and disregard. My suspension also was unsafe in the rear but the dealer carried out a multi point inspection stating everything passed.

2 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 09/06/2025

I experienced an ongoing grinding/rattling noise from the wheel/brake area. The vehicle was serviced multiple times by a franchised dealer, which diagnosed the issue as brake-related and performed brake repairs. The noise was not resolved, and the vehicle was returned in the same condition. Shortly after service, an independent mechanic discovered a cracked/broken brake pad installed on the vehicle. Due to safety concerns, the manufacturer authorized inspection at a separate franchised dealership under different ownership. That inspection confirmed aftermarket brake pads, rotors, and related components of unknown origin installed on both the front and rear, missing oem hardware, improper lubrication, and wheel bearing issues contributing to the noise. The inspecting dealer documented that the braking system must be returned to oem specifications before safe operation and further diagnosis could continue. Despite this, the manufacturer has declined to require oem remediation, and the vehicle continues to operate with unauthorized aftermarket brake components. The grinding noise has continued and has since shifted toward the rear. The condition is reproducible, documented by video, and confirmed by independent inspection. I believe the vehicle was returned to service in an unsafe condition involving a critical braking system.

3 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

The contact's son owns a 2018 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that soon after purchasing the vehicle, there was an abnormal screeching sound coming from the brakes while depressing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's son took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have the brake pads and rotors replaced. However, less than one month after the replacement of the pads and rotors, there was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the front passenger’s side brakes. The mechanic was notified of the issue, and the contact was informed that the brake calipers might also need to be replaced. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine temperature gauge indicated that the engine was hot(h), with white smoke coming from the exhaust pipes. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, but the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic and the contact's son was informed that the head gasket had failed, and an engine replacement was recommended. The dealer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that there were no recalls or warranty on the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided the same information as the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

4 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 03/20/2025

The engine and turbo system failed in my 2017 Infiniti Q50 signature edition (VIN [xxx] ). The vehicle remains at carmax naperville, where it has been since March 2025. Internal repair orders show carmax performed two failed inspections in August 2020 before selling the vehicle as “carmax certified” on September 3, 2020. The vehicle should not have passed certification. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, I noticed it was pulling hard to the right. During my first tire rotation and oil change, the technician informed me that all four tires were severely dry-rotted and unsafe to drive on. Carmax had represented the vehicle as fully inspected and road-ready. These conditions suggest the vehicle had sat for an extended period after a prior four-point accident and should have never been certified for sale. None of this was disclosed to me at purchase. In March 2025, the engine failed. Carmax later reported that a replacement engine was installed, part #10102-6hn3a (single-turbo) instead of the required #10102-5ch2d (twin-turbo vr30ddtt). This engine does not match the original factory specifications for my VIN. Infiniti of naperville confirmed that my vehicle qualifies for a free extended turbo and engine warranty (TSB p4a05/p4a06), but carmax declined to use the required oem one-time-use parts, voiding that coverage. Carmax has refused to provide inspection reports, diagnostic data, emissions test results, or engine serial numbers despite over forty written requests. I have no documentation confirming what work was performed or whether the vehicle is safe or compliant with emissions standards. The car has now been sitting at carmax for over seven months, with rusted brakes and unknown mechanical condition. They are just concerned about me coming to get the car. This raises serious concerns about safety, emissions compliance, and potential consumer fraud involving improper certification and undisclosed prior damage. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

5 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

Car has white smoke coming from the exhaust and the oil level keeps decreasing. Car stalls and takes time to accelerate p0106 code pops up from engine. There’s a rattle and whine noise coming from the engine bay. Also the gas was stuck accelerating. Had to switch the car to neutral so it does continue accelerating. After switching to neutral I was able to decrease power to the wheels and had to pull over on the road.

6 Service Brakes problem of the 2023 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 10/17/2024

Vehicle was parked in my driveway with the engine running for about 5-10 minutes while I was going into the house to turn off my alarm, then return to take out 2 of my elderly dogs; & finally to take out my other dogs. I then returned to the car, opened the driver's side front door & reached in to push the "stop" button on the dash. As soon as I did, the vehicle immediately went into reverse & pulled me down the driveway by the open door. The vehicle continued down the driveway & crossed the street, hitting a fire hydrant in my neighbor's yard across the street. I never physically got into the vehicle to do the steps required to put the vehicle into reverse, I. E. Putting my foot on the brake & depressing the transmission shift button. I contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle after the incident & explained what had happened. I spoke to francisco, but he said there was nothing he could do unless I wanted to pay for diagnostics on the vehicle. I explained that the vehicle had clearly malfunctioned since I was not physically inside of the vehicle to put it into reverse. I asked him to document the incident, but he said he was unable to & suggested I contact Infiniti consumer affairs. I did that immediately after speaking with francisco, & gave a detailed description of the incident. I was given a case number at that time. I called another Infiniti dealership to explain the situation to ask about diagnostics, & was informed that the car's computer would not give an error code for the car going into reverse. I called to speak to my dealership service advisor & was able to schedule a diagnostics appointment at no charge. I did an internet search & discovered it could be a linkage issue, which is a safety issue & the recommendation was for the vehicle to not be driven. I have since scheduled an inspection with Nissan corp. But the rep was not receptive to my request for repairs. I supplied a video to the dealership, but Nissan said they did not have it.

7 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 12/17/2023

Traction control did not function when needed. I had my breaks and rotors replaced two days prior to the accident, which may have had an impact on the performance of the vehicle. Insurance representatives did look over the vehicle, as it is now in their possession. However, I do not feel as though they took the time to look into my concerns. There was no warnings on the dash.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 10/05/2023

My braking system completely failed while I was driving with no warning of sound or dash safety indicators. The only way I was able to stop my vehicle is by shifting into park while I was in motion. Two days prior to my car losing all ability to brake, my car was routinely serviced by the local dealership. All check points were green, including my brakes. The dealership towed my car back to the service center to inspect. The diagnostics came back as the break actuator unit (computer sensor) shorted which led to no communication to the brake control assist unit (computer sensor). This loss of communication between these sensors basically caused my brake functions to fail. I was fortunate to have been leaving a parking garage and not on the open road. This could have been a fatal incident. The repairs are $7000 of which Infiniti has only offered to cover $3000. This is a safety issue and a loss of faith with Infiniti as a vehicle manufacturer. There needs to be an investigation so no lives are lost. My vehicle is still not fixed.

9 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 07/01/2022

Brake pedal sinks to floor slowly at red lights. Randomly vehicle will yank seat belt back when abs module detects no brake fluid pressure once in a blue moon. This is because of the defective abs module hydraulics leak internally from the factory. As brake fluid heats up the internal leak gets worse. Most likely check ball to pump or out valve leaking by. Model year 2015 for sure. I never got it covered under warranty because the problem starts out very random and takes a lot of time for it to always happen. Dealers will just say no problem found. Abs module cost $1k for me to buy at the dealer. Now I have brakes all the time again no thanks to a factory defect module randomly giving poor to no braking power. Internet forums of 2014-2016 have many people saying the same thing. Not the master cylinder, it is an internally leaking abs module and will have no codes. Not happy about paying to replace a factory defective part.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 10/04/2021

The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shudder while the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated no warning lights was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a local mechanic to be inspected. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

11 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/24/2021

Vehicle would not start and determined that battery was dead. Arranged for jump start (through my roadside assistance program) but vehicle would still not start. Had vehicle towed to Infiniti dealership. They figured out a way to charge car (wasn't accessible via front hood since a hybrid) and found a way to open truck to direct access and charge battery. Upon car starting, various error codes appeared. Car dealership had no knowledge of what they meant as they had not seen them before. I contacted Infiniti corporate and they associated the codes with a previous das voluntary recall. However, upon further investigation by dealership, it was determined that das update was already applied. To determine the root cause, I was told it would require the car to be partially disassembled. As two of the codes points to a braking system issue, and one to the chassis system, I wanted to verify if this is a safety issue and if a recall is needed. (see attachments for reference).

12 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 09/11/2020

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that the vehicle pulled to the right while driving. Additionally, the vehicle shook abnormally when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to mike ward Infiniti (1800 lucent CT, highlands ranch, CO 80129, (303) 350-4300) and the contact was informed that the rear rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned that the control arms also needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The failure mileage was 35,000.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 07/25/2020

Place the car in reverse to back out of a parking space. When I got to my stopping point I applied my brakes to stop to shift gears to go forward. Upon pressing the brakes the vehicle would not stop and continue to roll backwards I pressed harder to stop the vehicle it did not stop it rolled over a curb and backed into another car before it stopped. Once I turned off the car and re-started the car again the brakes worked properly. Damage occurred to both vehicles.

14 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 04/14/2020

While driving my vehicle today approximately at 4:20 pm mst, my steering and braking system stopped working while I was driving and as I was approaching an intersection located here in colorado springs, CO. This scared me and I thought I was about to die. Is there a recall on the 2014 Infiniti Q50 hybrid steering and braking system? if so, what do I do about these issues? so many lives are at danger with this vehicle and its steering and brake systems. This must be fixed immediately! I'm in law enforcement and this could be catastrophic for Infiniti and Nissan.

15 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 01/11/2020

Forward emergency braking (Feb) activating when not needed. January 11th 2020 first day of owning infniti Q50 luxe 3. 0t no packages, only Feb (which is standard on all Q50 now) driving home from kelly Infiniti of denvers, MA dealership. Allen rd extention - speed limit 30mph, slightly windy road, wet, possibility of black ice. All of a sudden, with not a single car ahead of me and no cars going toward me - car starts to brake like collussion to some imaginary object is unavoidable. Was able to stay on the road. Few days after that - driving from nashua, nh to my house at 159 allen rd by highway rt 3 (55 mph). Driving in the middle lane, switching into the left lane to pass slow moving car in middle lane. There are two cars in the left lane and plenty of space in between them. Distance to the car ahead of me in left lane is about 10-12 yeards. To the car behind - 15-20 yeards. All of a suddne when I already moved into the left lane car starts to brake like there is no tomorrow, car behind me almost rear ended me. What was worse - the person in that car thought I did that on purpose and crazy person starts to chase me sitting dangerously close to my rear bumper. Then he/she passes me and hits the brakes in front of me - I barely avoided rear ending that car at highway speed. Friday January 24th 2020 driving on rt 3 (speed limit 55mph) driving in the right lane, slow moving truck in front of me, changing lane to the left (middle lane), in the process of passing the truck - already driving by the truck's side - all of a suddne car starts to brake so hard that car stats to sway and I see in the right rear view mirrow that trunk of my car is under the truck. Mirciously I was able to manage to escape this situation. This car with this technology is unsafe to drive, it will cause more accidents than prevent.

16 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 11/19/2019

My vehicle has an optional tech package that provides forward braking, lane departure and backup braking. Apparently when I hit a pothole, these safety features occasionally turn off. Iv'e had these car for 4 1/2 years and became aware of this problem about 6 months ago. I'm have become dependent on these safety enhancements and no-longer feel comfortable when driving. I have complained the dealership since November 19 and still have not received a positive response all I want is to have a working safety system. .

17 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 10/22/2019

While driving, the car lost all power, steering and breaking capabilities. All of the dash warning lights lit up. Infinity replaced the abs system.

18 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 03/07/2019

I purchased my 2017 Infiniti Q50 as a certified dealer owned vehicle with 4710 miles on it from airport Infiniti on 12/31/2018. Since taking possession of the car, I have had three separate instances where my car lost power during acceleration, in which one of the instances nearly caused me to be hit by a semi-truck when crossing a divided highway. I have provided videos to the manufacture but they have refused to take action because the vehicle does not set any dtc codes. When this condition happens my 3. 0t Q50 accelerates extremely slow even with 100% throttle. The net result is that when I intend to cross a divided highway, I experience a 1-1. 5 second delay from the time I push down the accelerator to when the car begins to move, then the acceleration from 0-15mph can take upwards of 5-6 seconds. The resulting feeling is a car that rolls into a dangerous intersection and exhibits stall like conditions. Only once did the car set dtc codes during this instance. The codes set were b130d, c1a16 and po340. These codes set the first instance, but have not set during the past two occurrences of the same acceleration issue. These instances are completely random which make them extremely dangerous. For instance, the car will be driving completely normal, I will stop and an intersection and then when I go to turn out into the intersection, I go into this stall condition without warning. The dealership has had the car 4 separate times and each time they have refused to fix anything on the car, despite having a video of the occurrence and confirming that the acceleration was entirely abnormal. I have no choice but to drive this car if Infiniti refuses to fix it, but feel it is likely that it will cause injury or death to me and my family if I drive it. I have attached a summary of the daily log I have been keeping since I purchases the car on 12/31/2018.

19 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 12/29/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2019 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated while driving at high speeds, the rear end became very unstable. The abs would not operate properly. While depressing the brake pedal, there was no pulsation to the brake pedal. Additionally, the collision avoidance system randomly activated causing the vehicle to stop abruptly with no object or vehicle nearby. The contact also stated that the high-pressure fuel lines were leaking causing an odor of fuel to be present. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 49.

20 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 12/29/2018

This car has always drifted to the right. Now it is drifting to the right and left. Constantly having to correct steering to keep straight. Car pulls hard to the left when braking. Going over bumps or at high speeds the car feels very loose and getting harder to keep in control. The car also shifts at 2 rpms and feels like its jerking. Has been taken in for alignment 4 times and the dealerships refuse to inspect or fix car. The toe specs are constantly being thrown out of spec in less than 4 weeks when hitting bumps the steering wheel shifts and stays shifted. It is harder to turn left than it is to turn right.

21 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 12/23/2018

As I was parking the vehicle at 5mph behind a parked car, with the front tires slightly turned to the left, the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle suddenly accelerated but the vehicle failed to stop. Resulting in hitting the vehicle in front and pushing it out of the way, the vehicle continued moving despite having the brake pedal depressed to the limit, the engine was revving very high. The vehicle crossed the median and came to a stop on the opposite travel lane of the street after the engine went to idle speed. The dealer suggested to contact Infiniti USA to start an investigation(tba), a police report was filed. Collision avoidance/auto brake did not engage. Video with sound of the incident is available upon request.

23 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 04/15/2016

First of all this is the second instance for this, the first time it happened the dealer dismissed as the drive assist behaving normally. However while my wife was taking our son to school this morning 04-15-16, the steering wheel decided to turn to the right suddenly at 45mph, luckily my wife was able to correct for it by steering in the opposite direction. She then called me and said that something is wrong with the steering of the car and that it kept was pulling to right hard. I told her to find a safe place to pull over and turn the car off and then start it again. After she was able to stop somewhere safely she turned the car off and then restarted it and the steering seemed normal. I have expressed my concerns of the safety of the drive by wire and steering assist to the dealer we bought it from and to Infiniti consumer affairs when this happened the first week of owning the car, now that it has happened again have no confidence in the safety of this car, especially with my 3 year old in it. I can not express to the worry I go through every time they drive the car. I intend on contacting both the dealer and infinity consumer affairs but I know what I can expect from them, next step is contacting a lemon law lawyer fro further advice.

24 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

First initial incident: around sept/oct of 2015, I was driving in a freeway where there was a heavy traffic. Cars were running at a speed of 10-20 mph. I was slowly approaching to a stop by stepping on my brake. That was when my brake would lock on me and the car would not stop to move forward. Luckily since I wasnt going fast, I avoided an accident with the car in front of me. Recent incident: happened Jan/Feb 2016, I was on my work's parking lot when it happened again. I hit my company work truck in the rear (my car pretty much got buried under that truck) and caused my car to have a damage on my hood and bumper. I reported this incident to Infiniti USA 3/1/2016, great service by the way, telling them all my incidents. I didnt report on my initial incident since I thought it was just a one time thing. What if I drove 70-80mph on the freeway and this happened? my life's at a risk with this vehicle. I drive a lot for work but this cannot keep happening time to time. So after my report to Infiniti, they opened my case (will not share my case number) and will send it to a incident specialist. I haven't repaired any of my damage from the malfunction yet because I strongly believe I am not liable for any of this damage. I read one of the complaints on November, 2016, and that person's case got rejected. I am guessing Infiniti does not want to agree their malfunctions and blame it on the customer? I am afraid that since I do not have a dashboard camera or anything that will support my story, it may be rejected. But I am willing to act upon their decision if it does not resolve the way how it should be resolved. Highly concerned about anyone's safety now driving this vehicle around.

27 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 10/10/2015

On numerous occasions while in motion at various speeds the vehicle will audibly alert, brake, steer, and deaden throttle response. These are related to enhanced safety features of the vehicle. The problem is that these occur when there is nothing to avoid or any danger present. These have occurred at high speeds and in situations where they could have caused an accident. My local dealership blamed all issues on the placement of an ez pass transponder. I find this to be completely absurd. Infiniti customer care will not assist. I have disabled all of these systems to avoid potentially dangerous situations. I note in the dates that this occured on 10/10/15, however there have been multiple instances. On 10/10/15 the vehicle steering had to be held at 30-45 degrees to the left to keep the vehicle in a straight line.

28 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 09/18/2015

I was driving 2015 infinity Q50 (purchased on 02/28/2015) on lee road, shaker heights, ohio 44120, which had a first scheduled maintenance on 09/14/2015 at the beachwood infinity dealer. I stopped at the intersection of lee road and chagrin blvd. Behind a black Jeep for waiting traffic. I had my car in drive and my foot firmly on the brake, about few seconds passed and suddenly my car started to move slowly forward while my foot was still firmly on the brake. As my car did not stop, I attempted to push the brake harder and to avoid rear collision with Jeep, I turned toward sidewalk, in a moment my car just took off at the speed, hitting fixed objects on side walk, missing some on coming vehicles and by grace of god I managed my car and came on chagrin blvd. Without further incidents. I had my dash cam on which has recorded the incident. This incident occurred on 09/18/2015. After few days I notified the infinity and the company issued a claim # 20499682. After seven days mr. Terry matt clark, incident investigation specialist, Nissan north America inc. Called me and told me he can not scheduled the inspection immediately and scheduled on 11/06/2015, during this time vehicle was restored with the damage over $22,000. 00 which I claimed thru my auto insurance. On 11/16/2015 I received the letter from mr. Clark, denying the problem with the car and not responsible for any claim.

29 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 08/20/2015

Recently I was sitting at a stoplight about 3rd in line behind a Ford explorer. I live in atlanta so stoplights are extraordinarily long. I had the car in drive obviously and my foot firmly on the brake. About 5 minutes into the red light my car starts to slowly move forward while my foot was still firmly on the brake. The movement was similar to if the brake had been released and the car was coasting in drive. Fortunately I left some distance between myself and the explorer in front of me, but obviously a moment of panic comes over me when my car is moving forward with my foot on the brake. I attempted to push even harder on the brake with no results, my car is still inching forward closer and closer to the explorer in front of me. The brake felt firm like it should be working. I had to think fast and then slammed the gear shift into park. This finally stopped the moving vehicle in what seemed like only millimeters in time to avoid rear ending the SUV in front of me. This is the second time this has happened to me where the car starts to move at a prolonged stop while my foot is on the brake. I'm going to try to replicate the incident in a controlled safe environment today, but needless to say it was a very scary moment and I'm truly worried about the safety on this vehicle.

30 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

This vehicle has an electronic braking system that has made this car handle erratically and extremely unsafe in traffic situations. While traveling at speed if traffic in front of you happens to brake or swerve in front of you this car will brake uncontrollably without notice making it nearly impossible to avoid a collision or change lanes to maneuver around on obstacle or car. Myself and my wife are very scared to drive this car and in freeway traffic you cannot safely change lanes. We feel it is only a matter of time before this poorly designed system which cannot be disabled will result in collisions or death. This has happened more than a dozen times since purchase in April 2014. We no longer feel safe driving this car.

31 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

While slowly backing out of a parking spot in a parking garage, the vehicle automatically braked so abruptly that I thought I had struck something in the roadway. I got out to check and the roadway was clear. I returned to the vehicle to continue and it did the same thing again. I was then able to continue. I had previously been to the dealership with issues with the sonar system for the backup collision warning and avoidance system registering false positives and beeping endlessly. Components were replaced. The problem clearly was not fixed. This technology does not work and makes the vehicle frightening to drive.

32 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Infiniti Q50

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

While traveling on the highway on 2/15 at 65mph with the intelligent cruise control system engaged, the vehicle automatically and abruptly applied the brakes very hard. There were no vehicles in front of us to warrant engagement of the collision avoidance system. An error message displayed on the dashboard. It was extremely unsettling to the point that my wife no longer wants to travel in the vehicle, nor will we have our infant son travel in it. The vehicle had previously abruptly braked in low speed conditions (ie, parking lots) for no apparent reason. Dealer had previously replaced radar system components prior to the 2/15 incident. I will no longer use the driver aids as a result as they are clearly not safe.
