2 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Infiniti QX56

Failure Date: 02/02/2013

My wife drove the vehicle to and from work with no visible problem and parked it in the drive. The next day I was able to back out of the driveway but when I put the vehicle in drive I noticed that the ats light is on and it is struggling to move forward. The manual says to take the vehicle to a dealer if the ats light is on so I had aaa flat bed it to my local Infiniti dealer. After checking the vehicle I was told by the dealer that I needed to replace a leaking radiator and the transmission at a cost of almost $5,000. 00 since my vehicle was a few months out of warranty even thought I was under the mileage limit of 70k. I took it to an independent transmission repair shop and was informed that this is a very common and well known defect with Nissan/Infiniti SUV's where a defective radiator can cause the transmission fluid and coolant to mix and ruin the transmission. A quick search on google confirmed that there is in fact numerous complaints about this issue. I filed a complaint with Infiniti USA and was told that since my vehicle is no longer under warranty there is nothing they could or would do about the situation. The vehicle is currently in the transmission repair shop getting the necessary repairs done.

3 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2004 Infiniti QX56

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

At the beginning of June 2008, I noticed spots on my garage floor under the car, towards the front of the engine; I thought it must be the oil filter and it needed to be tightened. I continued to notice this for the following weeks. I went under the vehicle and noticed that the leaky fluid had cascaded all underneath the vehicle. I went into have it serviced, dealer said that it was atf fluid, dealer tightened a clamp. Problem continued to persist, went into service, dealer replaced hose. Problem continued to persist, went into service, dealer said they needed to replace the entire radiator system due to design defect in the hose and clamp connection. . . Total cost for this repair $1086. 96. Wrote letter to infinity consumer affairs, stating I should be reimbursed for this repair as it was a NHTSA 10012879 bulletin and manufacture design failure. . . . . Their reply: "sorry cant help you". They would only cover this repair to the leaking atf fluid if the car was under warranty ((I noticed the problem while my car was under warranty, but took it in to have the work done within 60days of my warranty expiring, with only 40k miles on the car I thought it was just the oil filter needing to be tightened)) this is a safety issue that the manufacture needs to cover in full, regardless of the car being in or out of warranty; if this leak continued to persist, the fluid could come in contact with the exhaust manifold or catalytic converter and cause a fire.
