1 Body problem of the 2014 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

While driving in slow, heavy highway traffic, the vehicle suffered a structural failure of the rear crossmember / rear subframe due to severe rust. This is a safety-critical structural component and part of the rear suspension mounting system. When braking, the vehicle swerved hard to the right and crossed into the shoulder. Fortunately, the vehicle was already in the right lane, which likely prevented a more serious incident. The failure created a serious risk of loss of control and crash. After the incident, I took it straight to a mechanic on the way and the condition was identified as a broken rear crossmember caused by advanced corrosion. The failed component is available for inspection.

2 Body problem of the 2020 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 12/20/2025

I am submitting this formal safety defect complaint regarding a serious and life-threatening incident involving my 2020 Infiniti Qx60. While traveling at approximately 60 miles per hour on a public highway, the vehicle’s hood suddenly and violently flew fully open without warning. This resulted in an immediate and complete loss of forward visibility while the vehicle was in motion. The hood had been properly closed prior to driving, and there were no warning indicators, unusual noises, or prior issues suggesting a problem with the latch mechanism. This event appeared to involve a total failure of both the primary hood latch and the secondary safety latch system, which are specifically designed to prevent this type of occurrence. The incident created an extremely dangerous situation with a high risk of a catastrophic collision, serious injury, or death to myself and other motorists. I was fortunate to maintain control of the vehicle and safely slow down without a crash. This was a near-miss catastrophic event caused by a critical safety system failure. A hood opening at highway speed creates total loss of visibility and represents a severe hazard to roadway safety. The vehicle is currently being preserved without repair so that the failure can be properly evaluated. I am reporting this incident so it can be investigated for potential design, manufacturing, or mechanical defects that could affect other drivers. Sincerely, robert ponger.

3 Body problem of the 2026 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 10/27/2025

We are reporting two safety-related concerns involving a new 2026 Infiniti Qx60 sport. At delivery, a linear abrasion approximately 42 inches in length was present across the front roof panel and was not disclosed prior to sale. When this condition was raised, the dealership dismissed it by text message without performing a physical inspection. At a later date, the dealership applied a coating or protection product over the roof panel despite the presence of visible damage and potential surface contamination. Due to the length, location, and linear nature of the abrasion across a primary roof panel, we are concerned the damage may be consistent with transport-related strap or tie-down contact, raising questions about panel integrity, corrosion protection, and the vehicle’s condition as represented at sale. We are also reporting a child safety equipment concern. The dealership applied a chemical interior or fabric protection product while child safety seats and/or booster seats remained installed in the vehicle. The seats were not removed, and no warning, consent, or disclosure was provided. Child restraint systems are federally regulated safety devices, and chemical exposure — including overspray or vapor — may affect harness webbing, foam, or material performance in a manner not evaluated under fmvss requirements. We submit these concerns in good faith for NHTSA’s safety review and tracking.

4 Body problem of the 2022 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 07/10/2025

2022 Qx60 equipped with a panoramic moonroof. While in florida 850 miles from home, I was traveling alone at about 35mph when I heard a loud explosion. It sounded like a gun shot at close range. I kept driving but observed my surroundings and there was no traffic, no construction, nothing overhead, no warning lights. When I got to my destination a couple miles away, I inspected the vehicle, fully expecting to see a bullet hole or shattered rear window from a bullet. What I found was the front moonroof had shattered and mostly still intact. It had blown up and out and not inward as it would if it were hit with a projectile. I contacted the nearest Infiniti dealer in mobile alabama 100 miles away, but they couldn’t look at it for at least 3 weeks. I covered the moonroof with heavy plastic and duct tape to keep the elements out of the vehicle and keep the moonroof intact as much as possible to help with Infiniti’s investigation. The cullet that had fallen into the sunshade was vacuumed up and kept also. After a tense 850 mile drive home, at times in torrential downpours, I contacted our local Infiniti dealer who wanted to inspect the vehicle. They informed me that their investigation could not determine a cause, but they did know it was not a warranty issue and denied it. I had the moonroof replaced by a local glass repair shop and then had to take it to a body shop to have the headliner dropped so cullet could be removed. I talked to numerous Infiniti representatives throughout this process, and everyone asked if I filed an insurance claim, I had not. Insurance should not have to pay for a manufacturer's defect that is still under warranty. As an engineer for a tier one auto supplier that manufactures automotive safety glass for most major automobile companies, I can say with a high degree of certainty this was due to a manufacturer's defect or a design flaw. Due to the circumstances at the time, nickel sulfide (nis) inclusion is the most likely cause.

5 Body problem of the 2020 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 07/13/2024

The left rear side window rolled down and won’t roll back up and made clicking sound causing both safety issue driving my kids in a stormy day. I tried to open the door and it opens only 10 percent . I had to go from the other door to get my kid out the car. I owned the car 4 years now and I’m the only owner . I took it to the dealer and they opened the door replaced the window regulator and motor. This a faulty make from manufacture that I end up paying for about $1200 . They refused to cover for it because warranty expired in January 2024 but I only have 51000 miles on it. I had similar car window not rolling back on driver side 2 years ago and they said it was a recall.

7 Body problem of the 2017 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 03/15/2024

The vehicle needs a completely new engine and I had made it known that I want to trade in the vehicle the very next day but was told that I need to wait until 30 days has past. I have reached out to the loan institution and have documentation provided below of that Infiniti database in November of 2023 that this same vehicle needed a new engine. Both my children were hospitalized for breathing in these toxic vapors that were released from the tailpipe of the vehicle to which hgreg said they resolved and did not, as soon as vehicle started up the whole dealership came outside thinking someone's vehicle was on fire. Both my children are age 2 1/2 and 11 months old. Both were on breathing treatments due to the level of carbon monoxide released in vehicle while driving.

9 Body problem of the 2023 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 11/29/2023

I was driving my 2023 Qx60 today down a 55 mile road. No one was in front of me and two cars were very far behind me. I was not by an overpass or a golf course and it was a clear sunny day today. I heard loud pop and then the tinkling of glass going down the backside of my car. I opened the sunroof to see what had happened and immediately closed it as the glass started falling into the car from the broken sunroof. I pulled over, and looked at the sunroof. There were no rocks, golf balls, or anything else that would’ve explained why the sunroof exploded. When I called Infiniti to see why my brand new car sunroof exploded, I was told that that the sunroof explosion happens quite a bit to these cars and it is related to “thermal stress”. This is concerning to say the least and would seem to suggest a manufacturing defect on Infiniti’s part. The car is always in the garage and it was 44° outside today. I have had at least six different cars with a sunroof and this is never happened to anyone one of them before. When researching this online, I noticed that there are several cars with the same problem. Search Infinitiqx60. Com and a large forum of people are describing their exact same scenarios with their qx 60’s.

11 Body problem of the 2014 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 05/28/2022

Driving at highway at about 65 mph last night with almost no cars around us when we (wife and I) heard loud bang above us almost like an explosion. I pulled over safely and found out the sunroof is completely shattered out of the blue. There was no cars or trucks around us and no debris. It just exploded. We were not harmed since the shade was pulled and prevented glass from falling into the inside of the car. Very scary experience.

12 Body problem of the 2017 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 03/20/2022

While there is no specific incident, the hood latch does not open the hood of the car. I noticed this for the first time on 3/19/2022 when I tried to fill the car with windshield washer fluid. I'm also not confident that the hood is latched safely. Please advise!!.

13 Body problem of the 2014 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 08/01/2021

Excessive corrosion and structural integrity failure of rear subframe - rust through and disintegrated into broken pieces with holes. 2014 - car only 7 years old, the structural integrity and safety issue of this failure should not occur in this period of time. Dealer quoted $4,600 to fix, and denied it should be covered under warranty.

15 Body problem of the 2019 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

The car's computer malfunctioned when parking the car and pressing the brake. The car immediately accelerated at full speed, went over the yellow median and hit a pole causing an accident in the school parking lot, the whole front left side of the car to be completely damaged, the side airbag on the driver's seat coming out, etc.

16 Body problem of the 2014 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

I was driving on the highway when suddenly my sunroof shattered. It sounded as if someone hit my glass with a bat. It was late at night and there were no trucks or other cars around me. There are no other scratches or dents on the roof of my car and no rocks were found in the shade with the glass. Thankful that I had the shade closed because other wise I would've been covered in glass and possibly cut. This has to be a recall, a safety recall at that.

17 Body problem of the 2018 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 02/06/2019

Driving the vehicle with the sunroof open and it made a loud noise sounding like a gun shot. The loud gun shot noise occurred a second time then the glass in the roof just exploded.

18 Body problem of the 2015 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 10/13/2018

The sunroof spontaneously exploded. We were driving down the highway on a sunny day. No objects struck the glass but it shattered. The remaining glass is curved outward as if pressure from within the car caused it to shatter.

19 Body problem of the 2015 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 01/28/2018

Sunroof suddenly exploded at highway speed, but after only a 5 minute trip with all windows up. No weather issues, no damage to the shade panel; was not hit by anything.

20 Body problem of the 2014 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 11/17/2017

My 2014 Infiniti Qx60 has a sunroof that exploded while driving on the freeway. I was driving approximately 65mph when I heard the loudest "bang" I have ever heard. I thought the car had gotten shot. Upon pulling over and examining the vehicle, I saw that the sunroof had exploded. I had not passed under any overpasses, no trucks were near my vehicle. I noted that the there was not even a scratch to the interior sunroof panel, which would have sustained damage if something had fallen on it. Furthermore, it was obvious from the glass that the damage was not from a falling object. Shards of glass had apparently blown into the streets as I drove. I was extremely shaken as I swerved when I heard the noise.

21 Body problem of the 2017 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 10/22/2017

While driving on a clear stretch of interstate (not near an underpass or trucks or other cars) the sunroof exploded. It made a sound like a gun, glass came into the car because I did not have the shade closed. There was no indication anything hit the sunroof. A police report was filed and Infiniti covered the repair under the warranty. Upon investigation this issue appears to be systemic in newer vehicles. It was very frightening to my 11 year old daughter and myself. We were not injured and the local Infiniti dealer stated that have never heard of this. It was a sunny clear day.

22 Body problem of the 2015 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 09/03/2016

I found out on Saturday morning, that my sunroof was broken(looks like explode from the inside out),I checked from any stones or any debris(that could hit my car around my driveway, but there were nothing around the car and there were no marks on the roof as well).
