Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Jaguar X-type. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked with the parking brake engaged when it rolled away. The parking brake was loose and had to be engaged abruptly in order for the brake to catch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who adjusted the parking brake but the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to a private mechanic, who stated that the brake caliper needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was not reported to the manufacturer. At 46000 mi. The car seemed to lack power. Investigation disclosed a frozen left rear brake caliper, which was replaced along with pads on all wheels (expensive). 2000 miles later, the replacement caliper froze, nearly causing a fire.
