Design flaw in inner and outer rocker panels lead to rust through of uni-body. By the time owner sees first indication of rust, uni-body is almost completely gone. Components rust from the inside out. It seems that Jaguar has corrected this design flaw on 07 and newer models. In an accident there would be no strength in uni-body, no energy absorption, and car could literally be "cut in half".

2004 Jaguar X-type 81,000 miles. After driving for several hours at interstate speeds, the engine was slow to downshift. As car slowed to approximately 1200 rpms the engine suddenly sped up to 4500+ rpms making stopping impossible except to put engine in neutral. The same event happened four times during the 1300 mile trip.

This vehicle has been driven only about 26,000 miles. I bought it brand new from manhattan Jaguar dealership in bethesda MD. And is still under an extended warranty. Over the last 7 years that I have owned this car I have had 3 incidents of sudden acceleration. The first happened about two years ago as I came to a red traffic light. I applied the brake and the vehicle slowed down. But then the engine suddenly made a roaring sound and the vehicle began to accelerate. As I was pushing the brake I also pushed the gear to the "p" and the vehicle stopped about 6 feet beyond the stopping line. The second time I was actually stopped to make a turn and again suddenly the engine made a roaring sound and the vehicle began a sudden acceleration. . My wife was sitting next to me and again I applied the brake and immediately push the gear to "p". Both of incidents were reported to the dealer to no avail. The last incident happened on January 13, 2011 as I was stopped 5-6 feet from the car ahead of me in a busy traffic. Again all the sudden it was a roaring sound and the vehicle began the sudden acceleration despite my pushing on the brake. The distance between me and the front car was too short; so before I could stopped the car, I hit the rear end of the vehicle stopped ahead of me. My insurance paid $725 to fix the damages to the rear bumper of that car. I took the car to the dealer again and they kept it for three days claiming that since they could not replicate the acceleration they could not do anything for me. I also drove the car with one of the dealers staff. The purpose I guess was for me to replicate the acceleration as if the previous cases were done on purpose. This car also had a problem with the side mirrors. They would move as I was driving. After some 10 times complaint, finally they said a gadget under the driver's seat was the culprit and finally took care of.
Transfer case burnout had internal manufacture defects. Temperature coolant sensor over heated and completely melted, causing car to overheat. Driverside door panel clips detoriated. Dimmer light knob had 2 replacements and continued to brake. Car went for servicing, car was fine before servicing, car came back from dealership with break pad and rotor problems. Dealership replaced original car break pads with faulty pads to damage rotors and have me as a customer pay for a service that is not warranted. Car also came back from dealership with an engine tick and tire grinding sound that it never had, dealership service manager said it's normal to get out of engine inspection when these sounds are new sounds that had never existed. Gas cap filler came cracked at time of purchase, car was taken to dealership for that replacement, car was brand new with this defect existing at time of purchase. Car leather seats are deteriorating, fading, peeling, chipping and cracking. Passenger side visor snapped off. Driving traction stability light comes on and off with out being switched on. Car feels like it has no shocks, car rides over small rode bump and feels like it ran into a big whole in the rode, when pavement is completely smooth, dealer says shocks are fine, but the car did not have this effect until it came out of service for the defective transfer case.
