Jaguar XJ owners have reported 7 problems related to vehicle speed control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The engine has issues where there is a jerk while accelerating at times. I was told of a misfire issue that Jaguars have and have not been corrected. I was driving my 2012 Jaguar Xj on the interstate when it started slowing down. The engine light than appears on the dash and it starts to jerk as I try to speed up to get off the highway it goes from 60mph to 45mph. I take my foot off the gas and press the gas again for the car to jerk and accelerate slowly back up to 60mph. Not only was I almost hit from behind but almost crashed trying to get over and off the road for my safety and others. I was told by a mechanic the car needed a new gas treatment, fuel cap, and tune up all this money paid and no results. The 2012 Jaguar Xj still stalls when accelerating. The buttons are melted into a gummy substance and a barely used sunroof wont close has a loud noise when button is touched to try and close it. Worse experience ever with my 1st and last 2012 Jaguar Xj.

I was calmly driving slower than 35 mph on a city street when the car suddenly slowed down and stopped responding to the accelerator pedal. When I tried to step on the gas I heard a big explosion-like sound. Then all of a sudden the car accelerated to what seems like over 100 mph and the breaks did not work despite me pressing the breaks several times. I shot into 3 cars ahead of me that were at the red light. The other cars received substantial damage; I saw that others were injured. My car was completely damaged/crushed in the front and a fire had broken out. The airbags had deployed and I was pretty much pinned to the seat. I had bought the car from the dealer brand new and had it regularly serviced and maintained. I was the only driver and it had only 30000 miles over 3 yrs.

The contact owns a 2014 Jaguar Xj. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle independently accelerated without warning. The contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond. As a result, the contact crashed the vehicle into a tree. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was not filed. The contact sustained severe headaches that did not require medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,748. The VIN was unavailable.

As I was going down a slopping street at approximately 30-35 mph, I stepped on the brakes to slow decline but car surged forward, immediately gaining speed up to 58 mph. When I leveled out at the bottom of the hill I was able to pull over to side of road by tapping on the brakes until I came to a complete stop. Second incident happened two days later. While stopped at a stop sign waiting to turn left, car accelerated forward going from 0 to approximately 30 mph barely missing car coming at me from the left. Was in middle of the road before I knew it. Stopped car as before, light repeated taps on brakes. Car is at Jaguar dealership for inspection.

Just google "Jaguar throttle body" and see how many problems customers are having. My 2005 Xj8lwb with less than 60,000 miles experienced a throttle body failure while traveling on the interstate. I lost power as the engine went to idle speed and an "engine fault" message alerted me that there was a problem. Fortunately, I was able to make it to the shoulder and creep down an exit, where I was able to find a service station. I turned the engine ignition off and waited for 15 seconds and restarted the engine, the fault message was gone and the engine had power again. I was able to make it home without another incident. We all would have been dead if an 18 wheeler was behind us when the engine lost power. Last Friday, I had several episodes with the "engine fault" and loss of power, but made it to a Jaguar dealership safely, but shaken. They put the vehicle on the computer and announced the code that relates to the throttle body and figured the repairs to be $1,100 and that I could pick up the car today on August 23, 2010. Over the weekend I searched the internet and saw the vast numbers of people having the same problem. Some people reported accidents. Please look into this problem before someone is killed. Jaguar has recalled earlier models with throttle body problems, but refuses to recognize this problem on the 2004 and later models as of today. From my discussions with Jaguar USA it does not appear that they will own up to the problem unless forced to. Hopefully this where the NHTSA comes in.

The contact owned a 2000 Jaguar Xj8. The contact stated that he frequently experienced unwarranted vehicle acceleration. When the failure occurs, the rpm's increase to 4,000-6,000. The risk of a serious crash was significantly increased. The dealer could not duplicate the failure or produce any error codes to provide a sufficient remedy. He took the vehicle to an independent repair shop and the mechanic located an evaporated system fault error code; however, no repairs were made. The manufacturer would not assist. The failure and current mileages were 92,500. Updated 03/23/09. The consumer traded the vehicle in. Updated 03/24/09.

No events leading up to failure. No warning lights or prior indication of any problem. Car shut down at interstate speed with no warning. Had to get over 2 lanes of traffic and out of harms way and pull off of interstate. Very dangerous time. Replaced body throttle and charged me $1,563. 17 + labor. Old part is available. I was very shaken up after this incident and very concerned that you could just be driving down the interstate and with no warning at all your car would just shut down. This is extremely dangerous. I had this happen on another Jaguar back in the late 1990's and it was a recalled part believed to be the same problem still existing on this car. At that time the dealer said it was a recall and replaced it but same thing on this newer model and no recall. It seems to be the same problem and I feel it should also be recalled. Thank you,.
