Other Fuel System Problems of Jaguar XK8

Jaguar XK8 owners have reported 5 other fuel system related problems since 1996. Table 1 shows the 1 most common other fuel system problems. The number one most common problem is related to the vehicle's other fuel system (5 problems). For details of each of the problem category, use the links in the table.

Other Fuel System problem #1

1998 Xk8 stalled at freeway speeds. Third incident. Dealer unable to duplicate; no repair suggestions.

Other Fuel System problem #2

1998 Jaguar Xk8 has a history of stalling on the freeway at speeds of 55-60mph. This occurred twice (prior owner - 38,246 miles) - prior owner told by Jaguar that automobile had been repaired by replacing throttle. Same incident occurred at later. On-line information shows that several other 1998 Xk8 owners have the same issue that engine turns off without warning - the car has a design flaw. There has been recalls regarding the throttle. I do not understand why the nhtsb has not forced Jaguar to repair this 1998 Xk8. The model, 1998 Jaguar Xk8, has a design flaw and is a safety risk.

Other Fuel System problem #3

There is a common throttle body failure in 2002 Jaguars. When this failure occurs, the car goes into "fail safe" mode and reduces speed to 30 mph, creating a hazard on highways with limited access. Investigation has revealed that this is a common failure of an non-wear component, and represents a factory defect and a safety issue.

Other Fuel System problem #4

Sudden loss of power. This is due to the stabliity control chip located in the throttle body going bad. When the wheels break loose, a sensor sends a signal to the chip in the throttle body to slow the engine so it does not over-rev. This chip according to the dealer is malfunctioning and 'firing' on its own resulting in a sudden loss of speed. This first occurred 18 months ago and I had to replace the throttle body ($1800). It just started to happen again and the new throttle body only had 13k miles on it. I just had to replace again and they only charged me another $730. My wife drives this car and this is dangerous as someone almost rear ended her. I know that there is a dealer advisory regarding a similar problem with another Jaguar model. I saved both throttle bodies so you may borrow them if you would like. Otherwise they will be some expensive book ends. We will not own another Jaguar due to this recurring problem but I hope someone does not have to die before they start treating their customers right ard correct this issue.

Other Fuel System problem #5

I purchased a used 1998 Jaguar Xk8 with 40000 miles in Nov 2004. It immediately started stalling at highway speeds. I took it to a local dealer in little rock arkansas, and thay told me that they could find nothing wrong with the car but charged me $1,600. 00 for service that was not necessary. Within weeks it again began dying at highway speeds and would not re-start without pulling off the road, which is at times impossible due to I-30 being under construction and having no shoulder or exits, only 6-foot concrete barriers on either side of the two lane highway. I was at the mercy of every driver behind me. This is a life threatening situation that Jaguar denies having any knowlege of. I have recently found hundreds of complaints on this issue with jag owners who have had the same problem. Ford has issued a field action that admits that the throttle-body is defective, but they're not fixing the cars in the u. S. , only in other countries. Please do something before someone is killed.
