Three problems related to front seat recliner have been reported for the 1996 Jeep Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2004

While accelerating from a stop one of the attachment bolts holding the front driver seat to the slide rails tore through the sheet metal on the left front attachment point. Upon removal of the seat, broken welds were found on the right rear of the frame and part of the frame was cracked.

2 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2004

The driver's seat frame broke away from the floor, making the seat inoperable.

3 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2000

Car hydroplaned into an embankment when attempting to stop. Luckily the rear window on the liftgate of the Jeep popped off on impact to the embankment. First defect: back of drivers seat broke causing driver to be ejected from the vehicle through the rear window of the liftgate. Second defect: airbag did not deploy even though there was damage to the front of the vehicle. Can't give true estimate for the amount of damage since all medical bills have not been provided by health providers. $ 5,412 worth of personal property (jewelry and other) lost during impact to the embankment.
