Tank Assembly problems of the 1999 Jeep Cherokee

Four problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2003

When fuel tank level is a quarter or less and while turning left at a traffic light vehicle runs out of gas and engine shuts off. After coasting through light and straighting out line of travel,several seconds of restart attempts eventually restart engine. Vehicle continues on normally.

2 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2002

Vehicle leaks gas. When the gas tank is full, the gasoline would leak out until it was under 3/4 of a tank.

3 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2001

Fuel tank is warped and has caused fuel to leak. Consumer was told by the dealer that when they replaced fuel pump they did not torque the screws properly and that caused the tank to warp and leak.

4 Tank Assembly problem

The placement of the fuel tank is vulnerable to rupture in event of an accident.
