Safety belt retractors do not function consistently, belts hang in door opening and become caught in the latch/strike assembly when the doors are closed. This causes damage to the belt, requiring replacement. I have owned several Chrysler products (Dodge dart, Plymouth reliant, 2 Cherokees and other) and all have exhibited this problem.
I was able to duplicate the failure described on prime time. G3 seatbelts need recalled.
The seat belts did not fail, but the belt would catch on the door latch and was rubbing holes into the belt. Jeep was contacted about this problem on 2/14/01, they called and said that it was a "design flaw" but until more complaints were received, they would do nothing about it. Demontrond was also advised about the problem, but I was told that for them to look at it, it would cost me for them to look at it. The Jeep has been "traded.
