Eight problems related to electrical system have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When attempting to turn vehicle off the key becomes trapped in the ignition and will not come out until the key turned to the on then to off position several times. At times the vehicle starts on its own even without the key in the ignition at all and there are times when the vehicle is running and in drive on the roadway that you hear the ignition area by the key clicking again and again. This causes the alarm system light to come on and flash then go off and no after driving the vehicle it seems to be happening more frequently and becoming harder to get the key out of the ignition. So far the vehicle has not stalled out while driving but I am afraid to drive it much since out of fear this may happen with me my wife and three children inside.
Had n23 recall done in September 2013 in November 2013 when I was going to tow Cherokee behind motorhome would not go into neutral in transfer case. Dealership replace actuator. January 2014 same problem, dealership replaced actuator again, they said the one previously replaced was bad. February 2014 same problem, dealership reflashed tcm. May 2014, same problem, reflashed tcm again. Later may 2014, same problem, dealership opened ticket with star engineers, checked every wire harness, connection in transfer case and actuator. Now June, same problem. . . My question Chrysler customer care only helps communicating with the dealership and the dealership can not email the star engineers. Why haven't they looked at the final drive control module, that is where the problem started with the recall??? since the new models are ok what changed from the 2008 to the 2011 and newer??? need help!! Chrysler needs to fix the problem. Many people have this problem since the Cherokee is such a popular vehicle to tow.
Driving on the highway when my 2008 Jeep grand Cherokee shifted into neutral by itself. I was not quick to react and was almost killed in a multiple car pile-up. A large 18 wheel truck and two other cars left the roadway to avoid hitting me. I was completely helpless and could not get out of the way. I pulled over to call my dad, but he didn¿t answer. After about 15 minutes, I restarted the vehicle and it shifted into drive on the side of the highway. I drove it home on the access road. This has happened to me twice now. My 2008 Jeep grand Cherokee should be part of this recall --recall number: 13v175000. I called Chrysler and they said they do not have any indication of why it is not. My case number with Chrysler is 23875821. Please help me before I and several other people behind me are killed. I drive 30 miles to and from work down I-35 and I-40 in oklahoma city, these are two of the busiest roads which I drive this 2008 Jeep grand Cherokee 60 miles, Monday through Friday. My vehicle is unsafe by an already known defect Chrysler has identified by recall number 13v175000, and yet they are stalling and failing to act.
The moving vehicle inadvertently stalls. The stall has mostly occurred on the highway at speeds of 70-75 mph, as well as on-ramps and off-ramps. The frequency of occurrence is approximately (3-4) times per month. When the vehicle stalls I have to quickly put the vehicle in neutral and restart the engine. Fortunately the engine restarts immediately and I am able to resume driving. The problem was reported to a local (ri) dealership, who was unable to diagnose a problem/defect. I am apprehensive about driving this vehicle, and I am a police officer with extensive training. I will not allow my wife to operate this vehicle.
I am writing to describe 5 incidents within the past year when my vehicle completely shut off while driving. This happened first in may 2012, with a follow up instance in June 2012. After bringing this into the dealership, was told that this was the wireless control module malfunctioning and they replaced. 6 months later, vehicle shut off again while driving without cause. Vehicle shut off again October 2013 while driving at a speed of roughly 20 mph, followed by another shut down at 70 mph in late October 2013. I brought this vehicle into another dealership, who told me that they believed this was an issue with the front control module (after I told them the fix to the wireless control module did not work). Dealership also advised that a recall on the front control module for issues exactly as I described was in place for 2008 grand Cherokees, but not my vehicle in particular. Upon further investigation with Chrysler, vehicles manufactured Dec 4 2007 - Dec 11 2007 were impacted by this recall. My vehicle was manufactured Dec 3rd. Chrysler refused to cover this under the recall but agreed to pick up the majority of the repair cost. My concern is that this issue is extremely dangerous - I could have gotten into an accident any of the five times that my car shut off without warning. It is very clear that my car should have been covered by this recall but was not. I am very concerned for other drivers of a 2008 grand Cherokee that fit a similar description of mine - close to manufacturer date of recall but not quite there but having the same problem.
While driving all my gauges stopped working such as the wipers, speedometer, oil light, all of my gauges stopped working that are controlled by the computer. Couldn't tell what gear I was in while driving. My radio and clock wouldn't work. My blinkers wouldn't work. I had to take it to get it fixed this morning. I surprised this wasn't on a recall.
While braking going into a right-hand-corner the lights on the dashboard came on and the engine stalled. The vehicle came to an immediate complete stop on the road. Luckily there was no car following me as otherwise there would have been a dangerous rear-end collision. Could not restart the vehicle. It was taken by truck to the Jeep garage. A fuse connected to more than 30 applications had blown. When replaced the car functioned. Garage spent 2 days searching but could not diagnose the cause of the problem with the fuse . Charged me 300 usd. Two days later the engine stalled again while braking in a right-hand-corner. The vehicle has now been in the garage for 2 days for diagnostic testing and further checks. No resolution to the problem has yet been found. The vehicle is 2 years, 7 months old so the repair is not covered by the manufactures warranty.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep grand Cherokee. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the interior lighting, exterior lighting, heater/air conditioner, turn signals, and the windshield wipers would fail sporadically. In addition, the contact was attempting a left turn when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer and they were unable to diagnose any of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
