Bangs into 2nd or 3rd gear intermittently after a stop or while driving at lower speeds 25-30 mph especially. Most erratic in city driving. The jolt is so hard the driver takes notice. The vehicle will hesitate at time from a stop then jump forward like a bat out of hell causing front wheels to spin. At lower speeds in city the vehicle has a delay from engine to transmission causing a jerking motion even when pressing ever so litely on gas peddle. The transmission holds gears aggressively before up shifting, so engine speed hangs high between shifts. The vehicle shifts occasionally immediately into 2nd gear from a stop and then drags it out and clunks into 3rd gear causing untimely shifting. Lithia Jeep and pelletier Jeep both did software updates with marginal improvement or made it worse. Also the transmission up shifts to soon often from 1st to 2nd gear. Vehicle at times has mind of its own for transmission never really knowing what to making not very predictable and dangerous to drive. The speed control is dangerous and a nightmare. When going downhill it makes transmission go into lower gears causing engine rpm over danger zone. It feels like the engine and transmission are going to explode. The speed control is really hard to predict what it will do! I'm scared to use it! I'm scared to drive this vehicle!.
Purchased 2106 Jeep Cherokee in April 2019. Had car looked over and oil changed April 19, 2019 @30,141 miles. On 8/14/19 the vehicle stalled while leaving a stop sign. Total loss of control of the car. Dashboard lights flash and display instructs you to put the car in park. After 3 attempts the car starts. Thought it was a fluke. 8/24/19 the same event happens again, except on a busier road. Very scary and concerned about being hit from behind. 4 attempts to restart car, finally starts and I drive directly to mechanic. 8/27/19 happens multiple times to mechanic, who agrees this is a very dangerous situation in moving traffic. The computer does not indicate any problem. Based on information I had found on line, he checks the oil to find no oil on the dipstick. Car is @ 35,242 miles & consumed 4 qts of oil during 5100 miles. I am told that this is way too much oil to be used for this number of miles. The more I poke around on line, I see that many Jeep Cherokee owners are reporting the same problems. Countless that have happened on the highway, which I can't begin to think how deadly that can be. It appears that Jeep/Chrysler is doing nothing about this problem. They have recalled the 2019 Jeep Cherokee for this problem. I would also believe this is an environmental problem with excessive amount of oil being burned. I do have receipts from the service garage. Please help.
I purchased a certified pre-owned Jeep latitude. Within two months the service shifter light came on and the entire console lit up red. This issue continued off and on until I took it for servicing. This issue showed up while in park in my driveway, when pulling out and then when I stopped at a gas station. It was fixed in minutes ???? but it appears this has been an ongoing issue never corrected by Chrysler/ Jeep.
Sometimes when I mash the gas pedal to pull out from a stop it hesitates and doesn't move, then is sluggish when it does. This has happened often. It's dangerous.
I bought it used and it had 1 recall that was not disclosed and now the service shifter light keeps coming on. I have read 100s of others have this problem with little to no permanent resolution.
Purchased a 2016 Jeep Cherokee 2016 latitude. Had 70,000 miles on it. Two weeks into owning it on hard turns the battery light and dash would light up. On two occasions the car would be making a turn (in drive) and would fail accelerate or continue in that gesr causes it to stall into neutral and then loose steering control. The car would then shake violently and after getting out of the way of traffic it was turned off. Once the car was turned off the car would not start until 3 or 4 times. Imagine this happening on the entrance to the high way. The car would drive for a couple miles and then stall out again. Not a safe car and do not feel comfortable moving forward with this vehicle especially st high speeds.
Tcm modular fails in the sealed 9 speed transmission in 8 gear after comming of an exit ramp engine life came on mashes on the gas to go thru the intersection no power stuck in 8 gear would not down shift . . Light turns green and on coming traffic has to stop and allow me to get true very slowly. . . Horns blowing and cars swirling around me. . . Very dangerous to have this happen in traffic this has happened several times.
Shortly after I get gas the vehicle will go from drive to idle and a warning message will pop up that says I need to shift to park. This has happened while waiting to take a left at lights and sometimes as soon as I go to pull out of the gas station.
Takata recall my 2016 Jeep Cherokee will shut off while in motion. The car died while going through an intersection. I was able to coast into a safe place, but car would not restart again after for a few hours. My husband was driving the car and came to a stop at an intersection when the car died again. The car started rolling backwards and he almost hit the car behind him. This is not safe. We have a one month old child, and I do not feel safe putting her in the car.
When I was driving at highway, all the sudden service transmission light on and transmission meter went up to the highest point, car stopped by itself. Beside steering, everything else stopped working. Thank god, I was next to emergency line. I only got 30 second to get out high speed traffic road.
My vehicle stalls while driving; on the expressway, after a car wash, in the school parking lot. This is very dangerous!! it happened 3 times during rush hour traffic on a Friday night. Online complaints are plentiful. . . This needs to be addressed, someone is going to be seriously hurt!! currently at the shop, they cannot figure out what the issue is. This has happened on numerous occasions.
A service shifter light has been an ongoing issue. We had it serviced once. What happens is the light comes on and all gears are lit up as to say you're in all gears p,r,n,d. . . . Etc. The car at times won't pick up speed right away and also pauses when shifting gears.
While driving on the freeway an engine warning light appeared on the dash with the message "service transmission" and my speed immediately dropped and I was unable to accelerate to move out of the way of oncoming vehicles. I was barely able to pull the car over. Once stopped the message went away and acceleration was restored, but message occurred again and power was again lost.
When driving at a speed of 70 mph the service transmission light comes on, disabling acceleration and putting the car into 8th gear. This causes a dangerous situation where the car speed decreases instantly and requires the car to pulled over to the side of road and turn the car off then on. Chrysler is well aware of this issue but has not issued a recall for these vehicles. Instead they choose to put customers in the dangerous situation of disabling a vehicle at high speeds.
The shift module unit is going bad . It will read in the display dash service shifter and red lights appear for all gears park, n, drive, reverse, no auto.
While driving the car on 2 separate occasions, the car died while in motion. The first time, I was leaving church and made a left turn. The car stalled and I was able to move out of the way of traffic onto the shoulder of the road. I put the vehicle in park and started it up a couple of times and was able to go. The second time (today), I turned into a parking lot and it just killed. I put the vehicle in park and then started the car again and moved on. Fortunately, both times, I was able to safely address this. Who knows what will happen the next time? this first happened the 4th Sunday in may of 2018 and the second time, June 10, 2018.
On several different occasions now, after accelerating from a complete stop the car will start to accelerate and then it'll no longer respond to pressing down the accelerator. The engine does not rev and no speed is gained as the car continues to coast. I have been able to remedy it by shifting into neutral and back into drive. No warning lights or indicators appear signaling an issue. This typically happens on city streets after exiting the highway and has occurred when going straight from a stop, or while making a turn after a complete stop. Car currently has less than 35,000 miles. Has not been taken to any dealership, since there has been no indication of failure.
My Jeep Cherokee sport 2016 got stuck in a gear and would not shift. The service transmission light came on and the gas pedal would not do anything. It happened 5 times on my way home from a road trip and was very dangerous. The Jeep apparently needs a software update and I believe I shouldn't have to pay for that. The vehicle only has 30k miles on it.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle's speed suddenly increased to approximately 30 mph. The driver crashed into a traffic cone. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The contact also indicated that the rear windshield wiper suddenly stopped operating. On some occasions, after removing the ignition key from the ignition switch a message indicating "key inserted" would display. The vehicle was taken to huntington Jeep in huntington, new york, but the failures could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was 10,200.
When driving at highway speeds (70-75 mph) and speed control is engaged, while cresting a hill, sometimes the car will take off to over 80 mph and the tach. Goes to over 4,000 rpm. Braking doesn't seem to disengage the control. You have to shut it off completely and in a few seconds, it will disengage. It's happened 3 times already on 3 different highway trips.
Takata recall: I bought the car in June of 2016. Two months later I went into the dealer to complain about my car shaking and the accelerator how my car feels as if it's shifting gears. They take my car to check and told me they can not duplicate the issue so I received my car back. Then during the summer once again in 2017 the car was shaking very bad dealer was on strike so I had to go to another Jeep dealer. They solved the shaking and mentioned to me I possibly need a new engine. I haven't received any contact back from them for that new engine. My car again still shakes and feels as if it is shifting on its own. It's turned off on me quite a few times as well. On the express way in the city in the streets. I just took it back again this year a couple weeks ago in June 2018 and again I get the I can't duplicate the issue. So I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get my issue solved. Vehicle is always in motion when shaking and shifting happens. Vehicle is at a stop when car turns off.
When driving on a 2 lane highway, I set the cruse control at 58mph. The cruse set was done at the crest of a hill. The car then accelerated to 70mph before backing off to 58mph. This car has never done this on this hill or any other hill. In fact it's always held it's speed very well. This may be a one-off incident, never to occur again, but I felt it needed to be reported to the dealer as I've only got 6000 miles on this car. The service tech laughed and said this was normal. I disagree.
Setting cruise does not hold with even very minor incline/decline no matter what speed set is. The increase of speed during set cruise is alarming at over 10+ miles at medium decline, and at some point car tries to slow down, but it is not a smooth transition, as it feels jerky. I have taken to lical Jeep dealer, but they said maybe aftr "computer updates", it would remedy it. Not! I can be on a boulevard, street, highway, etc. . . I have another appointment for 1-13-2017 while latitude still has warranty. . . No dealer is able to get vehicles in quickly, so that alone says a lot about issues with this manufacturer. . . . I would add that I tested cruise with that automatic engine shutoff both on and off to narrow it down, but there was no difference. . . There is a huge problem with defrosting windshield, too, where the only remedy is rolling down windows, which is terrible in fog, rain, cold weather. . . The other issue I have is the area where the sideview mirrors are: it is so wide, it blocks an oncoming car (especially on passenger side), when trying to turn left. It makes it nearly impossible to see road, too, as many streets have medians and many do not. Some have concrete bike curbs, and one must pull car further out than normal, just to avoid running into something. This is true for both right or left turns. If area is dark, it is a guessing game. This also makes it difficult to see deer in neighborhoods or freeways here in san antonio, much less objects that are three feet tall and below.
I have had transmission issues since buying the vehicle. I have been to the dealer about 3 or 4 times to have the issue fixed and it was never fixed. Low power, hesitations in acceleration, randomly dropping speed while acceleration, and complete loss of power. It happens when in motion at all speeds but mostly at speeds under 40 mph. It all continues to this day and I have all but given up on getting Chrysler to take responsibility. I am sometimes even afraid to drive the vehicle when one or more of these symptoms happens. Chrysler needs to take responsibility. As a consumer I am entitled to get what I pay for!.
The contact rented a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While in reverse and applying the brakes, the rented vehicle independently accelerated forward and crashed into another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was able to be driven. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.
