Service shifter at 40000 miles and now at 54000 miles Jeep is sputtering when accelerating and Jeep will not start. Batter and alternator are good.
While driving down d rthe highway my Jeep shut off mid motion, my daughter and I were in the middle of a 4 way. We costed to side of road I cranked it 5-6 times then it started . When my Cherokee stoped the dash read shift to park then select a gear. The next time it died again in the middle of the road I was running 55 mph, the oil light flickered for a split second and the car died. The car lot I bought from said they found no issue this is an issue it is going to get me or my kids hurt. I have no warning when it will shut down. The only lights that come on is the shift into park press brake select gear. It is terrifying I use this Jeep Cherokee to transport my kids. It is happening more frequently.
While driving my Jeep a warning popped on the dash stating to service shifter. My car decided to have the brakes lock up and dash showed car was in park while the shifter clearly showed it was in drive. Thank god I was not going more than 15mph when this happened as we had just pulled out of the driveway and started to accelerate. My 5 year old was in the car with me. We or someone else could have been seriously hurt!.
Service shifter light comes on and all shift gears (park, neutral, reverse,drive ) light up in red after driving on mountain road. Pulled to side and turned car off. Reset light but came on again 20 min later . Apparently known issue with Jeeps.

The service shifter has come on multiple times lately and it requires me to shut the car down completely. Once restarted the car runs perfectly until about another 300 miles or so and the service light comes back on. Recently my car will show service shifter then it just shuts down completely in the middle of driving extremely dangerous. I've been seeing more and more people having this problem with this year make and model and it should definitely be something they investigate and recall it's extremely dangerous to just be driving and your car decides to shut off.
Shifter service warning light has came on at 48,000 miles and goes off when I restart my vehicle but has came back on repeatedly afterwards. It only happens after I'm driving for about 10 mins and when I put my Jeep in park and the warning light comes on and all of the shifter lights turn red.
Service shifter light comes on randomly when I am driving- this lights up all shifter gears. Dealership said this is a common issue with Jeep Cherokee's and the issue is the shifter bezel and wiring harness.
Was driving and in motion when I heard a ding and the "service shifter" alert came on, and all of the gears had the red light on. I have owned the vehicle for 9 months and have never had an electrical issue before. It is not due for an oil change or any other maintenance service. It is at 47,000 miles and when I called the dealership, they said this happens very frequently but is not covered under warranty, and that I would need to replace the shifter and shifter harness. I am very upset and disappointed with Jeep that this is a life-threatening issue, and it happens "frequently. " please investigate this issue as this is not fair to owners who are now at risk when traveling.
*service shifter* motion* *stalled* the following is the same issue I had with my 2014 Jeep Cherokee. I had traded that vehicle in for a newer 2017 model because of this. . . I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. Occasionally when driving at any speed the vehicle will stall and say "service shifter, place car in p or n" - I can no longer accelerate and have to come to a complete stop. Turn off the vehicle. Restart it after several minutes. When I try to restart, the engine has a tough time kicking back on. This is a very dangerous reoccurrence and must be dealt with immediately. This is the second report I have made. The first report was with my 2014 Jeep Cherokee.
I was driving my 2017 Jeep Cherokee and I receive an alert on the dashboard that said service shifter and the lights on prnd were light up and not blinking. The car was in motion when this happened and it shut down. I was actually on a city street twice when this occurred. I also receive another alert telling me to put the car in park before shifting gears. The car was in motion on a city street and the car shut off. I had to wait about 10 mins before I started my car up and press the gas at the same time to get the Jeep to start.
I was driving down the road and the shifter warning would come on. All the lights on the gear shift would come on in red and I would have to stop and turn the car off to get them to reset. This is on my 2017 Jeep Cherokee limited.
This happens every day while driving. I will be driving (no certain speed) but I will hear a "ding" & I look at my screen & it says "service shifter" and all my lights light up on my gear shifter. My Jeep tends to have hard shifting once this occurs. I then have to stop, turn my car off and turn it back on. (the pictures I'm attaching are from last week. However, this has been happening for awhile).

The vehicle has had multiple problems since my purchase date issues with the sunroof which has continued to persist, as well as a strut, hub, strut assembly, electronic parking brake and also now that I have taken it in there are more problems arising and now I have a check engine light on service all brake system lights on and light and traction control light on and also a 4wd system unavailable light on after taking it in to get fixed and the dealership fixes one problem and more keep arising! the vehicle was parked and then when I turned it back in that's when the parking brake would not disengage and then the sunroof and popping sounds were happening while driving. The transmission issue is when I am driving it is shifting way to often and shifting very wonky. Then also when shift the transmission into gear it doesn't engage and then when it does it litterally could through you forward in your seat when it finally engages.
I left work today at 4pm made a right hand turn onto a bridge and I noticed I couldn't accelerate and two engine lights came on the dash and my car completely turned off on me and I broke down. I was stuck on a high trafficking area on a bridge when this happened. I've had my Jeep for 2 years and never once had any issues and never once felt like it wasn't a safe vehicle. I don't feel safe to drive my Jeep now and want it checked out completely before this happens again to me.
Car will shut off while in motion driving in the middle of highway traffic. Brakes and gas won't work. Power steering function is lost. Error message on dash reads service transmission restart in park with vehicle at zero speed.
Bezel and shifter harness malfunction which is dangerous and numerous complaints on internet. Dealer ordered parts. $456. This needs to be a recall.
Tl-the contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee sport. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the service shiftier message was displayed. Additionally, all the instrument cluster warning lights were illuminated. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 33,000. Ap.
I bought the vehicle brand new form the dealer (farrish Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram at 9610 fairfax blvd. Va 22031 and it always have issues and stops running, and I have to drop it off to their shop and it takes few days to diagnose the problem which cause me some problems to struggle with my work schedule and my son school and other family schedules. So I need to solve this problem and make sure the vehicle is safe to drive as I am a single mom and I need to not struggle much with a new vehicle.
While driving the car in the highway and with 3 kids in the car I had the brake ,abs, and check engine light up. I wasn't able to drive it afterwards. I had to turn off vehicle and wait a bit then turn it on again. This has happened to me several times. I have called the dealership and they have no recalls. My vehicle has 50,000 miles and has been doing this since it had 25,000. Thd dealership has advised me my warranty is expired and unable to fix it unless I pay out of pocket.

I looked it up on internet n there are many groups with this complaint. Some say their auto died while driving or gears won't shift right. Why no recall?? apparently it's been going on for few years. They need to fix the problem! I was driving and when warning comes on the mph n stuff doesn't show on dash n lights are lit up on gear. Very distracting!.
I was attempting to merge onto the interstate when my Jeep shut off on me while on the entrance ramp. My car display flashed the battery symbol as well as the oil life symbol (oil life was at 55% according to vehicle display). It took several minutes before my Jeep would start again. I am unsure if the exact cause but I would assume that it is a safety feature to protect the engine, however it put me in a situation that could have easily cost me my life.
Service shifter came on one evening and went off upon shutting the vehicle down and restarting it. The next day woth no warning I was on the highway with my three kids. Suddenly dash flashed 4x4, traction control, ers, auto stop all unavailable and then the transmission just stopped functioning. I was in the fast lane doing 70 mph and had no power what so ever. The rpms went up and I had no acceleration with the gas pedal down. I was able to get to the slow lane but not without causing a rift in traffic, thankfully other drivers were alert around me and let me over once I hit my flashers. The vehicle was acting as if it was stuck between gears. Ot would engage in r, n and p but nothing when I put it in d. Called a rollback and per dealership every code that could throw has thrown and at my expense we are starting with entire shifter assembly to the tune of $900 parts and labor. 5 days to get parts in! per service manager, service writer and the mechanic working on my car this is an issue with Cherokees & better yet Jeep is well aware of the issue and doesn't find a need for a recall.

Service shifter indicator came on with all lights on the gear shift indicator lighting in red. After shutting the vehicle off, things returned to normal but will probably occur again based on other internet comments about this Jeep problem with their wiring harness.

At 38,000 miles on our new Jeep, the spark plugs are grounding out for some unexplained reason and burning a hole in the bottom of the coil packs boot. Causing the plug and coil packs to burn up. I'm being told it's a manufactures part defect that Jeep hasn't recognized yet. It's happened 3 different times and Jeep won't do anything about it. This problem has almost cost my wife and kids their life, due to getting on the highway and the Jeep starts to misfire!!!!.
This problem has occurred at least 4 times in a 2 week period. While driving on service streets a pinging noises goes off. . The battery light a lightening bolt and shift into drive appears and lasts a few seconds. The steering wheel gets very heavy and hard to turn. The vehicle turns off! the radio continues to play. I cannot shift into park. When I try to turn the ignition it makes a screeching noise. . After the second attempt it usually will restart. This is very dangerous and I am afraid to get behind the wheel of my car!.
While driving, service shifter will display on dash and all lights at shifter will light up. Turning vehicle off and back on gets rid of the message for a while, but it comes back on after a few miles---most of the time. I googled the issue and there are thousands of people with the same complaint. I have brought it to a couple different dealers and got different diagnostics. Sometimes it comes on when shifting to drive and sometimes a mile down the road, and sometimes after 300 miles, but it comes on a lot and it is worrying me, especially since so many people have the issue and Jeep has not done anything about it yet. Just bought a used 2017 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk 36867 miles and the service shifter light has come up on the dashboard while driving down the highway and all lights next to prnd turned red. Pulled over and stopped turned off engine, put in park and the vehicle started rolling. Turned engine on/off twice then got it into park then back into drive. Made it home and vehicle still has all lights next to prnd on and service shifter message remains.
It began with the check engine light staying on even after oil changes, then when I would turn on the ignition key it would make a tap tap sound as though it didnt have any power, or while I would be at a complete stop while at a light it would sound as though the Jeep was losing power and was going to turn off, then it did turn off on me when the light turned green. I had the battery checked by a friend he said it was reading that it has power and that the alternator is good also, then finally it left me stranded at wt work, it wouldn't turn on. I have no one to help me so I took a chance and asked a stranger to please check my car, he gave me a boost, it took 2 min to get my Jeep going again. . This morning at 4:30 am I wasnt able to go to work my Jeep wouldn't turn on. . So my neighbor took my to auto parts to buy a new battery, my Jeep is 2 years old. . I'm a single 52 year old female,I cant afford to be stranded or unable to get to work.

Vehicle has just shut off approx 10 times in the last 2 weeks. Sometimes its 'dings' while driving normal and does not stall but most of the time its stalls as driving. Either ive just pulled out onto a road or made a turn. The car will just shut off and says to put in correct gear. The car will not turn over and restart for approx 10 minutes. Accelerating straight through an intersection, car jumped and slipped from gear. Flashing "d", display alternating message "to shift vehicle must be stopped" and "shift to park or neutral press brake + select gear". Turned flashers on, stopped rolling car, shifted to park, waited a few seconds, shifted back to drive. Car responded and drove through intersection. Approx. Multiple sporadic flashing loss of traction light on dry roads and rolling starts. 5/10/18 4872m vehicle in motion on city street 35mph "service parking brake" flashed on display 5/12/18 5004m making left turn from stop on yield green very slight decline, city street, depressed gas pedal to make turn, car slipped out of gear flashing to put car in neutral or park and then back in drive. Car rolled into intersection. I flipped over to tiptronic w/o response, shifted to neutral and back w/o response, kids in backseat while car is stalled perpendicular to oncoming traffic. Turned hazards on, shifted to park and back, no response, rolled to side of road at this point. Put car back in park, counted to five, shifted back to drive, and car responded. 5/12/18 5084m fianc� driving, city street 45mph. Making left turn across 3 oncoming lanes from stop, car again slipped from gear and flashed message to shift into neutral or park and then back to drive. Fianc� shifted to neutral and back into drive w/o response. I turned on hazards, he shifts car into park and counted a few seconds before putting it park in drive and pulling off the road. Dealership closed. 5/14/18 dropped car off at Jeep 5/22/18 vm from Jeep, they didn't know what the issue was 5/23/18 Jeep called, couldn't duplicate the issue, filed a report w/Chrysler, tested grounding, and concluded it was a "fluke in the system". Asked me to pick up the car despite not making repair. "if you have issues bring it back".
I brought this Jeep on 2 22 2018. On March 1 it was pull in, it would not start, I pick it up on March 3, and drove it about 1 mile and it would not start again it was pull in again on the 3rd. I call on the 7th they was still working on it and today is the 10th. I need a car that will not live in the shop. I have talk to the people at albemarle Jeep until I was tried.
