My car shut down and lost power while in motion, it said “electrical instability “ “service shifter” and cut off. Auto stop start keeps going in and out seat belt comes undone while in motion.
Well the engine definitely failed to provide power for me to drive my vehicle. And as I am doing more and more research on what the ptu does, which is what there is a recall on. It appears the ptu not working correctly on my vehicle affected the engine, and the ability for car to properly utilize oil, thus affecting the operation of the cylinders 1 and 4 on my vehicle. I am being told I need a new engine however, I believe the ptu problem directly affected my engine because everything that happens with the failure of the ptu is similar things that happen with the failure of my engine, thus the two really are related. And if the ptu "talks to" the engine for proper consumption and usage of oil then, my current engine replacement needs to be covered under the recall of the ptu and any other possible engine problems with other Jeep Cherokee engine recalls. I would like someone to contact me and have a discussion with me and/or an attorney as I am considering now hiring one because of the safety risk of continued problems especially putting in another engine and having the ptu affect the engine again. Also mechanics are saying there is no way that this engine failed unless there was something else wrong upon installation of the engine or something else affected the operation of the engine, as in the ptu.
To whom it may concern, I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2019 Jeep Cherokee limited due to ongoing defects that create unsafe driving conditions. Vehicle information: •year/make/model: 2019 Jeep Cherokee limited •189,000 safety issues: my vehicle has experienced repeated and unpredictable failures, including: •loss of power while driving •electrical instability and voltage fluctuations •auto stop/start system malfunction •hard and delayed transmission shifting •“service shifter” warnings and parking brake alerts (p with exclamation point) •intermittent stalling and hesitation these issues occur without warning and significantly impair the vehicle’s ability to accelerate, shift, and operate safely in traffic. Recall concern: I am aware that 2018–2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles were recalled for transmission, powertrain, and electrical defects, including conditions that can cause loss of propulsion and unsafe shifting. My vehicle exhibits the same symptoms described in those recalls; however, my VIN has not been included. Repair history: I have contacted the dealership multiple times. The primary response has been battery replacement, which did not resolve the issues. No permanent repair or root cause has been identified. Safety risk: loss of power, transmission malfunction, and electrical instability while driving present a serious safety risk and increase the likelihood of a collision. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this complaint and investigate whether my vehicle is affected by a safety-related defect consistent with known recalls for this model sincerely [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When I got it looked at it’s my powertrain. The car is shutting off in motion.
Vehicle cannot stay in 4x4 mode.
2019 Jeep with 59051 miles on it. Upon starting the car, the idle was low and the engine ran rough. While driving, it would stall when stopping. After several tries it would start but not stay running while idling. The Jeep dealership stated the plugs were fouled, ($400), then when that did not fix it the fuel pump was bad ($4000), when that did not fix it they stated the bad fuel pump and plugs caused the engine to lose compression and it now needs a complete motor ($11,500). This car's 60k/5year warranty expired by 4 months. Turns out this problem is happening with lots and lots of Jeeps. Stalling on the road while driving is not acceptable and very unsafe! Jeep needs to find the problem and recall it.
Stalls and loss of control of vehicle.
Vehicle lost power on the highway and rapidly decelerated. Svc 4wheel drive message light on. Not inspected yet.
Ptu for this car, with no light or warning on the dashboard, car began to make a cranking clicking noise and began to smoke from the rear exhaust, car lost steering capability for the brief moment and fellow driver alerted me that my car was on fire below. Car immediately pulled to the side, I never lost power. At mechanic shop, appears that the ptu blew and oil flew all over the bottom of the car which then ignited causing car fire, appears to have damaged dry shaft, ptu blown into literal pieces and rear differential all damaged. Car was initially serviced and was told that part was on back order with no signal or conversation that it was unsafe to drive, yet appears that is not the case. Other Jeeps 2018-2019 have a similar recall on ptus and I dont know why this model does not.
On a regular basis (at least 1 x daily) I will be driving my 2019 Jeep Cherokee, and when I stop at a light, stop sign, parking spot, or the start/stop component turns off the engine, the power to my vehicle completely fails. The vehicle will turn off completely. The dash panel, radio, everything will completely turn off. This has caused me to be stuck in the middle of the street, and it also has happened in the parking garage of my job, causing me to hit the wall next to a parking spot. There are no warning lights when this happens, there is no check engine light that come on after. I have taken it to a mechanic and since there is no check engine light on the dash panel, the obd is not able to pull up any codes. Due to this issue, I have disabled the start/stop component on my Jeep to see if it helps the issue, but it does not seem to help.
Stalling while driving slow. Stalled in traffic. Had to pushed off the road. Started running after a few minutes. Stalled 2 more times while I was leaving home. Would not start again for a few days each time. Alot of sensors are flashing. Has not been looked at by any dealership. Engine shuts down while driving.
While coming to a stop the vehicle just died while in traffic. Managed to get to an auto zone and the code was p018c fuel pressure sensor b circuit low. The stop/start feauture also just randomly stops working. Jeep has no answer to this. The vehicle dying while in traffic could be deadly.
The auto stop start feature is causing the car to stall out and shut off during a complete stop. The car check engine, light and auto start lights turn on. Then the car starts shaking and vibrating. It’s very unsafe to drive vehicle!.
I have the 2019 Jeep Cherokee high altitude 2. 0 turbo 9 speed transmission. We have had this same problem since we bought this vehicle. It doesn't happen all the time but I believe is getting worse. The notorious very very hard shifting & stalling problems. This seems to happen at any speed, at anytime, & doesn't matter how you drive it the problem still persist. You can be driving 35 mph on a straight stretch, no breaking, no change in acceleration, and it will suddenly shift very hard! the other problem that I believe is connected to this is stalling before it decides to shift. Sometimes 3 to 5 seconds before shifting very hard into gear after it finally decides which gear it wants to shift into. It has created some very scary moments that my family & I could have got into an accident multiple times because it took so long to shift. Please be my guest & inspect it! no check lights or anything like that. I did have the battery go bad a year after we bought it. That might have to do with the start/stop system even though it is equipped with a bigger battery and better starter.
Check engine light came on. Had it diagnosed within 5 minutes. Code p0123 came up. That is the “throttle/pedal position sensor/switch “a” circuit high input”. Specific part # 5184349af. It is built into the throttle body, so whole throttle body must be replaced. Vehicle only has 40,000 miles. Parts dept at dealer told me they had several of these parts in stock. He was surprised. They only do that when they know there is a problem. It is a safety issue. It can fail and cause engine to quit. Jeep refuses to acknowledge an existing problem. It needs government investigation for safety. I can send picture of diagnosis printout if needed.
While driving my 2019 Jeep Cherokee with 18,261 miles suddenly the vehicle completely stop in the middle of the road. Lucky this happened on a side street not on a highway or a busy intersection that could have resulted in a injury or even a death. I was trying to step on the gas pedal but the vehicle would not move. I have noticed on my center console display was black nothing was display no radio or climate controls. On my front dashboard display had a warning of service transmission restart in park. The engine light was display also the battery, emergency parking brake, and the traction control was display. This event happen five times in two days. I have taken this vehicle to a Jeep dealership and they are saying that the transmission needs to be replaced. I am saying to myself that this is a Jeep Cherokee with 18,261 miles on it. This type of vehicle should have a nationwide recall and the NHTSA should have a hard look at this situation and the consumer complaints on this vehicle. This type of vehicle should not be driven on a public road or even a highway. For a consumer driver this type of vehicle is unacceptable the vehicle is a death trap.
Vehicle has stalled (completely shut down with no steering ability) while driving on 3 separate occasions. No warning lights of low oil or issue with vehicle. Burning through oil at 1 quart for every 800 miles (unheard of) for casual driving in normal conditions. Car will rev very high and not change gears smoothly. Hesitation on starting and hesitation and sputtering on normal acceleration. Many issues and have only had the vehicle for less than 3 months.
While driving my Jeep suddenly shut off. This happened twice, so I took it to liberty Jeep in libertyville. I was told that they would need to do a pcm reprogram and that it will now burn 1 quart of oil per every 1000 miles and that I would need to keep an eye on it to continue to top of the oil so the Jeep doesn't shut down. This is not acceptable for a dealership to say. I am fearful of driving long distance on highways with this now and would like to get out of this lease. I have attempted to discuss with the dealership and I haven't had any luck. Owner or managers do not return any emails or phone call. This is very disturbing.
When coming to a stop in the vehicle, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee (bought used at 52,000mi) at 59,000mi now powers off randomly. Apparently this is due to a software issue that was recalled, but I do not see my VIN available for service. This is unacceptable as I am afraid of a newish car turning off while on the road.
A couple times now my Jeep has shut down all electrical spell propulsion everything in the middle of traffic while driving while slowing down and it's very dangerous especially this morning when I was in an intersection with a semi bearing barreling down on me and I had no steering no brakes no propulsion nothing then the d for drive on the dash started blinking all servicing is up to date and now there is a warning light.
On multiple occasions my 2019 Jeep Cherokee has stalled out, with out warning, while I was driving, once on the freeway at 70 miles an hour in heavy traffic. After several trips to the dealer I was informed that this engine, the 2. 4l has a systemic problem, in that burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles and when the oil gets too low the engine just shuts off. No warning lights, just shuts everything off. At 70 miles per hour in traffic, having the engine stop and suddenly losing power steering and trying to move though traffic to the shoulder while rapidly decelerating is very dangerous. The dealer and fca are offering no solutions for this issue. From a public safety perspective this vehicle should be recalled, not to mention the environments costs and consumer protection aspects.
Backing out of garage gasoline was coming out of the engine compartment and falling onto the driveway. When the engine was turned off the gas stopped coming out. Turned the engine back on and gas started coming out again so I parked it in the yard. I called the dealer and they had it towed to their place. They told me the fuel line was disconnected at the fuel pressure sensor. They stated that you can't remove this without a special tool and it was probably not fully locked in when made and over time came loose. Brad at crown Jeep in cleveland, TN. That's also where I purchased it from.
Engine turned off rounding a corner with no warning. Was able to restart vehicle and get back home slowly. The oil was barely on the dipstick at the bottom when I checked it. I had to add 3 quarts of oil to get it back to the normal level. This occurred approximately 2600 miles after an oil change. On average, this vehicle requires the addition of approximately 1 quart of oil every 900 miles. Extremely high oil consumption. No signs of a leak anywhere in my garage or on the vehicle. Have not had any other problems with the vehicle other than having to add a quart of oil every 2nd-3rd fill up at gas station.
Truck cuts off when I make turns or if I stop at a stop light. When you try to start the truck back up it hesitates and when it does start back up it stutters. While driving on the highway the truck all of a sudden while flash a low oil light and say low oil pressure and I just had my oil changed at the dealership. Now it won't pick up speed past 10 and a message is popping up that says check something electrical. I can't even drive the truck because I'm afraid I'm going to cause an accident. I was driving home today from work and barely made it. My check engine light isn't even on. But it's not shifting gears it idiles up and just stays stuck I have to take my foot of the gas to try make it change while driving on the city streets. Arkansas has a lot of hills and I have to go up one to get home and I almost didn't make it up the hill in traffic because the truck started stuttering and the oil warnings started flashing.
Driving on a local road I lost ability to accelerate. It sounded like the engine was no longer running. Luckily was able to pull over. After turning off the car I could not turn the car back on.
Everytime I slowed down my Jeep would cut off. I figured out I could get it to restart in neutral as I'm finding somewhere to coast off road, but would have to put in park to shift back to drive. I made it to dealer and they said it very common problem and hopefully a recall will be soon because they dont know how to fix the problem. The problem seems to be the Jeep using oil and then the engine starts shutting down to protect further damage. They filled with oil and it ran fine. . The dealers temporary solution is to do a oil consumption test to turn into mopar. So I have to have them check the oil every 1000 miles. The first 1000 it used very little and they said go ahead and try another 1000 and come back. I made it to about 500 miles and now my Jeep will not start. Thankfully it is in my driveway and I didn't break down on the street again. I'm going to top off the oil and see if that does anything. I'm afraid of another problem because it's not making any noise when I try starting. Also, February 2019 I did get the recall fixed (power control module) from the dealer. So when I went back for this issue they told me I'd have to pay them $130 for them to even take a look. I was surprised to be treated like this with a brand new vehicle so I went to the dealer in the next county and they told me about the oil consumption problem and didn't charge me! another thing is the screen/instrument panel has went out a few times. Once the original dealer reset it, but it still goes out sometimes or it gets stuck on the dial/keypad screen. Bottom line: now my 2019 Jeep is stuck in my driveway and there doesn't seem to be any solution.
The vehicle was in motion on a county road traveling normally when it suddenly stalled out losing all power including steering. The instrument panel stated something like "must be in park to change gears" although no manual attempt had been made to do anything of the sort. This has happened twice. The Jeep dealer kept the vehicle for two weeks and has decided there is nothing wrong with it.
Jeep does not accelerate properly. Still has other issues stated in other complaint; grinding, lurching. This car is a fail. Filed a lemon claim that was ignored and am about to re file for all the other problems occurring. I can't use cruise control because the rpms get waaay too high for me to trust. The hills between payson az and show low az are too much for the computer to manage, I'm worried the engine will blow. Air bags did not deploy when I was rear ended. Now I know why. They are recalled. This is a death trap I am paying 32k for, and I am livid. I will never buy Jeep again.
My vehicle stalls upon acceleration z I've been told it was bad gas as well as needing an oil change, but the problem continues.
The vehicle decides to reverse in park and in drive while operating the vehicle on the road. The shifting is hard calibration and chugs. The engine has stalled in the middle of driving and completely turned itself indefinitely off. While driving into the parking space the vehicle has numerously and spontaneously decided to reverse in park. The same has happened in drive. The auto engine shut off doesn't work properly as the computer gets confused as to which gear it is in when it starts up. The radio likes to turn itself once in a while so I'd say thats mechanical although the least of my worries. I recently experienced parking in my front yard . . The "d" starts blinking in drive and the vehicle starts indefinite reversing. . . . . . This SUV also has bad fuel efficiency getting 12 mile per gallon on freeway and road. Not safe.

As I have only had the car 3 days, I can't say what it used to drive like. But more than a few times, I have been trying to accelerate from a stop, and the vehicle hesitates for a moment. Sometimes I have been trying to make a left turn across traffic, or cross a busy highway. Fortunately, I haven't been in any close calls yet, but I can definitely see how an accident could occur, if you push on the gas to make a turn and your car accelerates really slowly for the first 2 seconds. I will be taking my vehicle to the dealership on Monday to see what can be done about it.
While operating my 2019 Jeep Cherokee the vehicle has stalled while in motion on 3 occurrences. Each time it stalled the vehicle was unable to be restarted. It has had to be pushed out of traffic to a safer location and then taken back to the dealership. Multiple repairs have been made by the dealership to the fuel system with an assurance that the problem is resolved. The problem is still on going. This is a serious safety issue that occurs without warning in a moving or accelerating vehicle and will result in an accident. My family does not feel safe in this vehicle. The vehicle is < 60 days old and < 3000 miles.
For the third time, the vehicle has lost power at highway speed. It starts coasting and the motor runs but depressing the gas pedal has no effect. The last time it happened, we were on a curving mountain road and almost got run over by an 18 wheeler. Third time this has happened and the dealer has not been able to fix. This has to stop, brand new car stalling at highway speeds. Each time we were at highway speeds. Multiple lights come on the dashboard, see attached photo.
While stopped @ traffic light or stop signs, when start to go car jumps when gas is applied. Has not been reported to anyone yet, no warning lights displayed. Has not caused accident as of yet. Electrical equipment has had problems since came off lot. @ times usb ports work @different times. It says to connect device every time even when it's plugged in already, I'm not sure if jumping is motor or transmission. I was told by dealership ( salesman) that the problem with usb problem was ok. I'm afraid it may cause safety issues in the future ( jerking engine).
