36 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2016

When I am driving on the main city road or highway I notice about three things that happen all at once. The first thing is I lose control of my steering. The second thing is it feels like my Jeep went into park causing all my wheels to break for 1 to 3 second. The third thing is it feels as the engine stalled. All these things happen at the same time. This causes my Jeep to stop or stall on the road sending me and my passengers to lounge forward as if I had hit an invisible wall at full force.

Failure Date: 06/13/2016

Regardless of distance traveled, outside temperature, the 'transmission over temp' message appears on the dash. Had coolant flushed 2x but message still appears intermittently. Had mechanic look at more than a few times, however could not replicate message and thus no resolution/fix to problem. Jeep recently had ignition switch recall completed (thought that would never happen) but 'transmission over temp' would occur prior to that recall being completed. Thought the two were connected somehow. Main concern is the engine does not overhear, temp reads below middle mark but when transmission message appears, after a few minutes, transmission feels 'off' or jumpy. Something is definitely happening. Not safe to drive, not confident taking it on long trips because of possible damage that may occur, not to mention being stranded. This is my girlfriends truck and I'm not comfortable having her drive too far, especially in the evening. His is inconvenient because we take care of our vehicles, this truck has low miles, 62,000. Would really like to resolve this because we love the trick but cannot trust taking it on trips, towing our boat which was the original purpose of having truck. What a stressful vehicle to have. Very dissatisfied with this truck. Again, the transmission over temp would occur intermittently, on the highway at times, in traffic, small trips, after sitting parked after a short trip, message reappears once truck is started again. No rhyme of reason to this.

Failure Date: 04/05/2016

The inside door handles are breaking apart. Mine have not gotten to where they will not operate yet but they are loose I am concerned about the safety of getting stuck in the Jeep if they quit working. Online they are aftermarket fixes for this problem which means there are a lot of Jeeps with this problem. I can not believe that this is not a safety problem that is being over looked.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

3 of 4 interior door handles broken and inoperable.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2016

Door handle broken all 4 doors.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2016

The car jumps and then stalls when it is idling in reverse or drive. It also will accelerate on its own and the brakes are hard to press. This happens when the lighting bolt appears and the anti side lights on the dash, then the care either doesn't respond to pressing the gas and is harder to press the brakes. I have to restart the car for it to work. This all began after recalls being updated, it has been diagnosed as my power train control modual and that it has been recalled in other vehicles for the same reasons but there is no recall attached to my VIN according to Chrysler. Ive done research online and numerous other Jeep Commanders and other Jeep modules made around the same time are having the same issue. The problem is on going and has been for over a year but has gotten much worse after fixing of recalls a few months ago. The date below is estimate of when the recall was fixed.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2016

This is in response to the recall for the ignition switch on my 2006 Jeep Commander. My vehicle has had the ignition switch replaced at the dealership but you should know that the replacement does not cure the problems that it was meant to fix. The work was completed at 9:30am and the next time I drove that day,it did the same exact shutdown as it did before (with all lights on the dash flashing). The stalling and shutdown does not occur because of hitting the key with your leg as I am only 5'4" and my leg doesn't touch the ignition. The shutdown occurs because of a short somewhere inside the ignition. It occurs randomly and sometimes can be stopped by lightly turning the key to the left. I have also found that the shutdown occurs at extreme frequency when driving in heavy rain or extremely slushy roads, which tells me that somewhere, something is getting wet and shorting the vehicle out. It is very hard to get the lights to stop flashing in this type of weather and I have had to pull over a couple times because of the danger of stalling in traffic. I am stuck with this dangerous vehicle because of my financial situation and have fought for something to be done about it by the dealer starting 20 days after I bought it but of course nothing was done until the government got involved and sadly it still hasn't cured the problem. I hope you receive more complaints and make the dealership correct the problem the right way. Thank you for your time, tracy l. Field.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2015

Engine stalled without any warning lights while driving. It just died out. Luckily no vehicles was following. Changes in acceleration or gear suddenly shifts/sudden acceleration while driving on the freeway starter problem. Sometimes it doesnt start.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2015

I received recall letter for ignition switch problems since last year. I went to the dealer and notified about the recall ,they put me on waiting list and didn't call me back. I called them and went again and they tell me just to wait. I'm tired to claim them.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

Computer problems after n23 & p73 recall work completed 11/2015. When driving vehicle after recall work completed, when stopped & shifted into reverse, vehicle would not move in reverse, engine revered up when pressesd accelerator as if it were in neutral. Also now have indicator msg tht says " service 4 wheel drive". Called Chrysler & they made appt with another dealership to check/redo the recall work. Dealership said the first time recall work was done it was done incorrectly & Chrysler paid them to redo recall work. Con tied to have same issues. Called Chrysler again & they made appt with local dealership to recheck vehicle. Was told by dealership that "service 4 wheel drive" indicator comes on after so many miles on vehicle & only means to have normal maintanance performed on vehicle, cost $400, has nothing to do with recall work. Explained that indicater came on after recall work done not before so mileage hadn't really changed. Morlan Chrysler attempted resetting recall work & insisted I had to pay them to perform recall work. Called Chrysler & was reinbursed for the cost to have recall redone for 2nd time. Continued to have same issues & dealership & Chrysler stated it's no longer a recall issue. Although the vehicle is doing exactly what the recall notice says the recall is supposed to fix that the vehicle wasn't doing prior to the recall work being done. Now 2 yrs later vehicle is still shifting itself into neutral when trying to shift into reverse it is also shifting in neutral driving 60 mph on highway making it an extremely unsafe vehicle to drive. Still continues to have the " service 4 wheel drive" indicator on. Dealership says it will cost $800 to fix. Problem is not mechanical because vehicle can be turned off after shifting problems, essentially resetting computer, & will shift normally again. . Read more...

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2015

I drive 26 miles one way to work and then the same back home. On my way to work September 9, 2015 I was driving 40 mph and putting on cruise control and it revved up to 7 rpms and I was doing 95 within about 20 seconds. I am unable to use cruise control because instantly it revs up and I am a danger to those on the road. So far nothing happens when the cruise control is off. It happened again today. It should be put on the recall list as this is deadly on the freeway.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2015

Driving down the highway and the vehicle powered down as if to shut off. It then thankfully started again. I took it to progressive Chevrolet in massillon and they confirmed it is part of the p41/NHTSA 14v-438 recall. It has been there for 45 days. Chrystler informs me the parts are available and will be there within the week. Progressive informs me the parts are not available. I have been waiting since September 11, 2015 for the part.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2015

After a few minutes car will shut off. Im at a stop sign it shuts off, I am yielding to oncoming traffic it shuts off. The vehicle revs up in park.

Failure Date: 06/09/2015

Recall notice back in sept. Still no status. How long does it take for a safety recall. One life to many I'm guessing. Another issue to look at is the door handle issue. If an accident did occur how would you get out?.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

3 of 4 door handles now broken - serious safety issue.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

Transmission over temp warning came across the dashboard and continued after truck was turned off and back on. Coolant and temps levels are normal. Warning has continued to come on past couple days at 60 degree weather with no reasoning as to why. No electrical failures or other problems exist.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2015

There is actually a recall on the ignition switch for my vehicle, p41/NHTSA 14v-438. I have tried several times calling Chrysler's group recall assistance center at 800-853-1403 and get automated response that part is not available. Several times over the last few years, mainly while using the cruise control, my knee has hit the switch and the vehicle shuts off. Most times I have been able to start back up right away. However, recently I lost all power and another vehicle was rapidly approaching me from behind and it wouldn't restart, I had to quickly pull off to the side, just narrowly avoiding getting rear ended on the interstate. Now, I have a 15 year old that is starting to drive and it scares me to have my child drive this vehicle. Is there anything you can do to expedite Chrysler fixing this problem or possibly buy back this vehicle as it is becoming increasingly unsafe to drive. Please let me know and thank you for your time.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2015

I was driving my 2006 Jeep Commander down the interstate when it jumped into 3rd gear and the check engine light came on. I pulled over at the next exit and turned the car off. I started the car again and put it in drive and it still goes to 3rd gear and the check engine light remains on. My vehicle is currently at firestone and I'm waiting to get a call about my truck. Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so, how was it resolved?.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

My car has a recall, manufacturer recall number p41. It is a very dangerous issue and the manufacturer states recall incomplete, remedy not yet available. Yet they say this may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicles safety features including the frontal airbags. I have not even been officially notified. I had another issue and came across this. I went to my dealer and they said they couldn't fix it yet, and they can not provide me with a rental. They have known about this since September 3, 2014. Why isn't something being done to protect the people on the roads.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

I received a recall notification many months ago on my Jeep, but I continue to call my local dealer for a replacement of this part - to which they continue to tell me the part if not available. Can you tell me when this part if going to be available? once a recall is issued, a part to repair the recall should be available.

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2015

My Jeep Commander started having trouble skipping. There was a recall on the control module and the fix determined by Chrysler was to re-program it. I took it in to have the recall performed and the transmission check afterwards. When I arrived to pick it up, the dealership said the technician was out sick so all they could do was the recall. The car drove worse after I started home and failed to get transition between gears. I was forced to stop at the closest transmission shop. Their certified technician diagnosed that the transmission was bad. So, I had them they replaced it. When they went to test drive it, apparently the new transmission also failed due to the control module. They took it to the dealership and had a new control module installed. After repairing the new transmission, I was charged $4000. Whatever the recall "fix" for the control module was, it clearly was the cause for the transmission's destruction. The other recall for the ignition could not be done because Chrysler has no manufactured part to fix it. I sold the Commander the next day. I needed reliable transportation.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2015

Vehicle turned on and as I was pulling out of drive way, the truck turned off and could not get it to turn back on, it makes only a clicking sound, I have called three different Jeep dealers and say to not have the part or know when it will be available. It has been 5 months since the recall, how much longer should any one have to wait for the availability of the ignition switch and I am now without a vehicle, which is my only means of commuting. And to make matters worst right now I don't have the means to fix it out of pocket, I can't afford it. Please assist in this matter, something has to be done.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

I received a safety recall notice in October that said I would receive another one for a defect that needed to be fixed concerning my ignition switch. I never received it and am still waiting so that I may take my car in and have it repaired. My car has on several occasions switched off and all the lights on my dash go on and off while I am driving it. You say this is a safety issue and I would like to have this matter taken care of. I would appreciate your attention to this matter and help. Thank you, barbara j arnold.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2014

When trying to start the vehicle we may have to turn the key 40-50 times to actually get the vehicle to start! I have been to david stanley Jeep dealer/shop in norman this morning they will not even looking at the Jeep! I then drove to fowler Jeep in okc and they think it is the starter they want me to leave it with them 4-5 days and they are not even sure that will fix the problem! I've called Jeep customer care! they keep telling me that there is nothing that they can do until the part is made. . . But can't tell me how long will be until they get it made. The recall was made in June/July 2014 and it is December 16, 2014! so unbelievably frustrating!! as this is my family's only means of transportation!.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2014

Driving down the road at 65mph and the speedometer and tach will go to 0 and then back up to operating speed. Warning lights on dash will come on and off along with the fan for heater and air. Chrysler recalled these exact issues in July stating " some Jeep Commander vehicles may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving which may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicles safety features including the frontal airbags. Until this repair is completed the vehicle can be driven". My only question is for how long? how long until someone is injured or dead from the vehicle losing power. On Chrysler recall website for this vehicle it stated they were to issue another letter or information on this issue in September. It is now November.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

The ignition switch is the problem. I have filed a formal complaint with you. 190 I received, finally, the second safety recall notice indicating that "simply contact your . . . Jeep. . . Dealer right away to schedule a service appointment. Ask the dealer to hold the parts for your vehicle. . . . The service department at ernest motors stated that the parts are unavailable. I purchased a 2014 Nissan versa in November 2014. As a responsible driver I could not in good faith drive my Jeep. My Jeep is paid off. I am now making a car payment monthly on the Nissan versa. I received the safety recall notice, October 15, 2015. As instructed by fca I immediately phoned for a repair. It is neither honorable or responsible that I must continue to wait. I purchased that Jeep in good faith. Please advise me as how to proceed.

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

My vehicle is a 2006 Jeep Commander that I have had numerous issues with even though it only has about 78,000 miles. I was driving down a residential street when it stalled and after I cut off the engine to restart it the vehicle would not turn over. I had it towed to a repair shop and was told it was the control relay module that was not communicating effectively. I have had the transmission replaced, all the recalls done, and many other things. This is so unsafe and ridiculous. Its nearly $1,000 to have this part replaced, but because it is such a common issue it is on back order. Chrysler should take responsibility for the defective items they produce and sell to customers who bear the brunt of having a barely driveable, money pit.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

I'm not getting anywhere with Chrysler company recall service. My 2006 Jeep Commander has a p41 recall on it, it will do all sorts of crazy and unsafe things when driving. Examples: the Jeep will not start, when starting it the ignition switch clicks, the power is on for everything. Jeep told me to put in drive and then back in park, then try to start it. That does not work. Driving down interstate the Jeep will shut off and the power steering goes out. Once pulled over it needs restarted and then it runs again. It also shifts to 3rd gear when coming off the exit ramp when speeding up to get on interstate, again I have to pull over and turn it off and restart it. This is very unsafe and now I have no transportation. Calling Chrysler, they said that they will not help or provide a rental car. They say every time I call it's not their fault that the manufacturer of the ignition replacement part is not escalating the order and there's nothing they can do for me. They want us to drive a very unsafe vehicle instead of providing us with a rental car. They also said that they have no time frame of when the part is to be available to the dealers so this issue can be corrected and that they can't just give out rentals to everyone without knowing when the issue will be fixed. I need help, I need a way to work and I need a safe vehicle.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

2006 Jeep Commander traveling at highway speed 65mph ignition shuts off and loss of power steering. Able to slow to breakdown lane and restart vehicle. This is the second time this has happened Chrysler is no help. I have a 5 month old who was in the vehicle at the time. Its been long enough they should have it figured out. Acceptable time for an issue like this is not 6 months.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

My daughters were in the 3rd row seating when they went to buckle their seatbelts and they would not click in. They were both broken and would not stay attached. The plastic casing is falling off of them and they are not safe. The 3rd row right seat would not fold down. The latch that should be pulled would not engage and now the seat will not fold down. Lastly, the drivers side interior door handle crumbled inward and is not able to be used to open the door. I took my car to the dealer and they stated that it was my problem as it is not covered under the extended care warranty I purchased for $2500 and I would have to pay $700 for the door handle and $300 for seat belts and $100 for the seat to fold. I explained that the above was all safety issues and should be fixed by manufacturers and they said that it wasn't covered. I even told them that I saw the recalls and they told me that it wasn't for my Jeep. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer and considered a recall.

66 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

All of my safety warning lights flashed on and off repeatedly. At one point I lost power but turned car off and back on and it ran. Lights have still been flashing. On another occasion in the last month the ignition switch was knocked accidentally and the car lost power while we were exiting a freeway in the pouring rain. We were able to pull off to the side of the road and restart the car but we were scared to death. I have been told these could be related issues. When I called the dealer all I got was. . . Well we don't have the parts for the recall. . . No concern for our safety. This concerns me.

67 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

Today not 10 minutes after filing my complaint I got in my car and while driving the car stalled after my knee barely touched the key fob. I was paying close attention since I had just read about the investigation.
