Sun Roof problems of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Five problems related to sun roof have been reported for the 2006 Jeep Commander. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Sun Roof problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving during rain weather conditions, water leaked into the vehicle from the sunroof through the panels and onto the dashboard causing an electrical short and the head lights to flicker. In addition, the vehicle would randomly shut off while driving and occasionally hesitate to accelerate when shifting to higher gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the spark plugs were replaced but the failures continued to occur. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 131,000.

2 Sun Roof problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that during inclement weather, water leaked through the driver and passenger's side of the sun roof structure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the tubes on sunroof were clogged and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

3 Sun Roof problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the sun roof would leak whenever it would rain. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the drain tube was unclogged but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least three times but the technicians were unable to locate a repair for the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.

4 Sun Roof problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact experienced a no start condition when attempting to start the vehicle. In addition, the vehicle stalls without warning. She is in the process of having the vehicle inspected to determine the cause of the failures. The failure and current mileages were 44,000. Updated 7/23/09 the consumer stated on several occasions when she applied the brake, the vehicle acted as though it didn't want to stop. Also there were times when the engine would not start and the lights would flicker on and off and all of the gauges would act erratic. The sunroof drain tube was blocked, which was causing water to enter the vehicle. Updated 07/30/09.

5 Sun Roof problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander 4x2. Water drains in from the sunroof, down into the dashboard, and then onto the front and rear carpet. The contact stated that he can hear the water while driving. The coils underneath both front seats have rusted due to the water entering the vehicle. The contact does not know what kind of damage the water has caused to the interior of the vehicle. He stated that there are two drains on each side of the sunroof, and they are not draining the water properly. The first time the driver's side drain failed, the dealer stated that a bug was stuck in the drain. The second time, the dealer stated that dirty rain water was in the passenger drain. In addition, the air conditioner fan has begun to flutter. This failure has occurred twice. The dealer repaired the sunroof during the first visit, and the contact made the repair the second time. The current mileage was 7,500 and failure mileage was 3,000.
