The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact's leg was rested against the driver's side door when suddenly, the interior plastic door handle fractured. In addition, the front passenger's side door handle exhibited the identical defect. In order to exit the vehicle the window must be released downward to access the exterior door handle to assist with the opening of the door. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that each door panel would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. Interior door panels(both front doors) at door handles the plastic around handles has cracked and fallen out making the door handle sometimes unstable to open the door. Concerned from a safety standpoint that at some point the doors will not be able to be open from the inside and could be trapped inside in case of an emergency and the option of powering down the window is not possible.

All interior door handles are broken. 3 out of the 4 are at the point where it's very difficult and takes a long time to open the door. The plastic panels behind the door handles are broken. You have to wiggle the handle around to find the right spot that opens the door. This is a major safety concern. It increases the risk of passengers being trapped in the car if it was to catch fire.

The plastic housing on interior door latches is faulty. The driver side rear door is completely inoperable. It must be opened from the outside. The front two door latches are cracked and beginning to loosen. The rear door was noted as a safety concern by a coworker during a work-related trip. The employee understandably refuses to drive in the vehicle going forward. The problem is a safety concern and an embarrassment when conducting business junctures. I attempted to get the faulty door handle repaired on 4/20/11, but received documentation that the panel assembly is not covered under the platinum dealership warranty. The out-of-pocket expense for one handle is over $500 as the entire door panel must be replaced. The repair was not completed.

Door springs are too strong they snap back with too much force. My 4 year old child was hit in the head and ear which left a bruise on the ear , I have a picture, and a bump on the head, it has smacked my child on the head on several occasions. Also , it hit someone else's 6 year old child in the ear. My foot and ankle have been crushed on many occasions, today it crushed my big toe.

'06 Jeep Commander 4x2 - (1) stalls intermittently during turns which are both from moving and stopped positions. Many have occurred during a u-turn from a stopped position - unable to duplicate, in shop again (2) has a rough idle, which at times is more severe than others, but has never died - has just shaken severely a few times. There is no set pattern. It occurs during cold and hot weather, with electrical devices on or off, in park/neutral/drive, if the engine has warmed up or is still cold (3) the original windshield - continuous rock chips, cracks, etc - replaced @ 11,000k with a non-Jeep brand glass and to date the new windshield has only 1 star chip. Have heard the design of the windshield is reason for the windshield breaking easily, but the glass is not sufficient/durable (4) transmission fluid leaking from o-rings - replaced (5) rear spring seats squeaking - insulators replaced (6) excessive wind noise from front passenger side - at 22,500k dealership said only normal wind buff, at 24,000k dealership said unsure where it's coming from but will reseal front windshield (7) front driver window made grinding noise - motor replaced (8) short in audio/speaker system - radio assembly replaced (9) front driver power lock motor whining during autolock in cold weather (10) back up sensor doesn't sound until 1' before object (11) alert to check reverse sensor and wouldn't start- towed,battery replaced (12) middle seats hard to fold up (13) front windows go down instead of up(14)vehicle hesitates when put in drive/ reverse (15) steering whines.
