2 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

My Jeep Commander has had 3 different mechanical diagnostics to diagnose why the vehicle shuts off continually while in motion or stopped. The ignition switch was recently replaced as a part of a recall and this has not solved the issue either. The Jeep will randomly shut off, and all power steering is loss, causing a very unsafe condition until it can be put into park or neutral and turn back on. My last diagnostic showed the auto repair shopped a computer read of running while the truck had turned off several times right in front of them. I have spent a large amount of money on diagnostics and no mechanic has been able to find an answer even after the ignition switch was replaced as part of an original recall. I was told by all three auto repair shops that they know there is a stalling/shut off issue but they are unable to fix it because there is no indicator of why through thorough diagnostics. They also noted that when the Jeep shuts off the dash lights do not turn on as it would normally when a vehicle shuts off. When the Jeep has shut off on me driving down a major road at 40 miles per hour my only indicator that my vehicle has shut off is that my steering wheel locks up as the Jeep begins to slow down. The new ignition switch has not remedied the shut off issue and no mechanical shop has been able to diagnose and other reason why. Essentially my Jeep Commander is very unsafe with no solution able to found. I researched further and found that there was a front control module recall on some 2008 Jeep Commanders issued. I believe my Jeep Commander's VIN may need to be added to this recall for this make and model because the ignition switch recall has not fixed the issue and no mechanical diagnostic has been able to answer why. Everything else is completely sound with the Jeep Commander except this issue of shutting off while on, in motion or parked.

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

My vehicle has a blowout head gasket @ 135,000 what will Chrysler do about this.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/18/2019

When trying to crank the car the ignition is very slow and the lights dim. It is trying to turnover but cannot. After a few attempts it starts smelling like something electrical is going on. We attempted to jump it off but it performs the same even when attached to jumper cables. So it is not the battery which was changed 2 years ago and the starter was replaced 2 years ago as well. This has been happening for a while periodically but it always eventually started and never smelled like something electrical was burning. The vehicle was parked in a parking spot in lexington for only a few minutes to run into the retrieve some documents and when returning it just would not start. Once I got home I started looking up common issues with electrical and noticed that there had been several recalls that might apply to my issue. I plan to call our local Chrysler dealer as soon as they open and see if they can confirm and pick it up for repairs that should be covered under the warranty.

5 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

The problem started in January 2019. The vehicle started having idling issues, cold start in morning idles around 900, when put in reverse it dips to around 500 and wobbles back and forth while backing up, put in drive and it would be ok but would stall sometimes at stop sign- check engine light never came on. I had throttle body cleaned and fuel system service done and the engine light came on same day. Took it to the dealer for recalls and they replaced throttle body also. It drove ok for a day and I have the unstable idle back and the rpm jumps up while in drive but stopped at a light. About a week ago I am slowing down to stop at a light ahead and it starts vibrating like it is going to stall and the etc and tcs light came on and I shut it off and it cranked right back up and drove it the rest of the day with no issue. Etc light will come on while driving and cause no issues other than the unstable idle. Today-5-10-19, coming home and start to turn left and etc and tcs light come on and it seems like it is in limp mode because there is a loss of power and etc light is now blinking, so I pull in a parking lot, cut it off for five minutes and it cranks right back up with no lights on and I am able to drive 5 miles home.

8 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/11/2018

Tamara recall the Jeep will cut off randomly while driving down the road. It will also make attempts to cut off while driving at 60 mph and below. The esp light and traction control light will come on. Once able to get the Jeep stopped with out getting in an accident it will restart and all lights will go off. This has happened now 3 times with in 4 days with it cutting completely off and 5 times trying to while driving. The 1st time it was on a highway going about 50 miles and hour. The 2nd time I was getting off the interstate while going around a curve going about 30 miles an hr. The 3rd time I was doing 35 miles an hr on a busy street. The times that it has attempted to shut off but didn't I was going between 45 and 60 miles an hr. This is unsafe for anyone to be driving and have happen. It can cause me to have accident and or to cause a accident. This can cause serious harm and loss of life. I am not sure if it is the ignition switch or an issue with the motor or wiring. Something is wrong. I see on other forums that I am not the only one having this issue. I have contacted the dealership that I have recently purchased this Jeep from I am scared to drive it. I am in fear for myself and kids and others.

9 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/14/2018

2007 Jeep Commander with 112,000 est miles, bought used in ak 2016. A week after I bought it I kept having O2 sensor codes pop up. I have had all sensors replaced more than once and numerous other parts with the latest being the catalytic converter. I have spent several thousands of dollars trying to solve this issue. Today was my breaking point, I was driving on I-24 to nashville to take my son to an appointment at vanderbilt. It was raining this morning, all of a sudden the red lighting bolt and other lights came on. My Jeep lost power, the brakes didn't work, the steering locked up and I was scared I was going to get hit. I put my hazards on and was able to get across 2 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. I shut the Jeep off and turned it back on and it was normal again with just the check engine light on. I was so scared to drive back to clarksville, fearing that it would happen again. I saw that I am not the only one who has had this issue. I called corporate and they said there is nothing really they can do. I said what is it going take, someone, dying or getting into a wreck?? I am disappointed in how this has been handled. My latest carfax shows that this Jeep has had the same issues over and over, with nothing really getting resolved.

Our car won't start.

12 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

While raining water drains into vehicle from sunroof causing electrical problems. Lights constantly flickering, dashboard lights constantly turning on and off, interior water damage, rusting inside components. This incident happens constantly forcing me to keep headlights on high beam at all times while the car is stationary as well as in motion on streets as well as highways. This problem causes unnecessary problems being that while the car is going through this the turning signals, wiper blades, air conditioning turn off and on. Even though my car was serviced under warranty for rear seatbelts the belts are constantly jamming keeping my children captive and at some points it will not successfully latch.

13 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/25/2018

2006 Jeep Commander limited 4wd. 179,000 miles. Traction assist is activating while driving straight on dry pavement causing unexpected deceleration power loss. While driving on flat dry paved highway, at approximately 40-45 mph, the vehicle began to stumble and lose power. The traction control light was blinking during this time. During which time, when I turn off the traction assist via the button, the effect disappeared. No fault codes were stored or set. This issue has just begun to occur periodically and has happened approximately 5 times. Have almost had a crash event occur when trying to merge into traffic, and had to turn off the traction assist via the button on the center console.

14 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/10/2017

My favorite, Jeep Commander 2006 3. 7 v6. 103600 mileage. The car shuts down without warning. This has been happening from last November. I feel like I'm in a death trap because when cars going 60 - 70 mph on I-495 and car lost power. All I can really do is pray that my family don't get killed. The dealer fixed flipping key problem at the same year of summer because of the recall. This is really not related I believe. It happened 6 times mostly winter season between November through January eastern time last year, and this stalling problem came back last Sunday Dec 10th, 2017 while driving on northern state parkway to micro center in NY. 3 times already this season. The best way only I found for our safety. Slowly move over on the shoulder finding place to stop while speeding down, and have one chance of stop to break vehicle without power. However, luckily it starts again and runs normal. The dealer, daimler Chrysler consumer center. They never care about this issue and keep charging for the service without a solution. My research is on going to find ecm, pcma, and fcm problems. I am scared for my families safety. The car cuts off while driving on highway. Any ideas, please please please please please help us.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/16/2017

My Jeep is losing power while driving. This has happened on numerous occasions and when I take it to be looked at, I can never get a straight answer. I continue being told it's transmission issue (transmission oil cooler, fluid, lines). My car slightly jerks into get when shifting from part to another gear, and the parking assist message flashes on. After reading all the similar complaints online it seems the issue may be with the shift module. With so many complaints it would be nice if this could be a recall and corrected.

18 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

After having the recalled ignition and tcm replaced/reprogrammed the esp,bas and traction lights come and the two driver side brakes and tires lock up, makes a terrible grinding noise, and the vehicle slides while trying to make a turn. My Jeep didn't pull correctly, it back fire and wind. We took it to Chrysler to get it fix. The mechanic told us that the solenoid went bad. . . So were charged $405 for a converter, $357 for a solenoid, $7. 75 for a sealer, and $3. 60 for a nut none. . . Total labor and parts $1930. 31. . . 22 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/19/2016

I have a 2006 Jeep Commander 4. 7. Last month after coming home from another state, the car parked for several days while I was out of town it would not crank when I went to start it. . . Just the clicking sound. My boyfriend jumped it and it overheated his cable. Then it happened after sitting just overnight, same scenario. I did not leave anything on like lights, etc. I had the battery checked and it was fine. It began to happen more frequently (several nights in a row). Took it into a dealer and he replaced a few parts but nothing changed. Then the battery started draining after sitting for 15 minutes with the ignition off. Took it to a friend who's an auto mechanic, he said something was discharging from somewhere.

23 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/16/2016

Takata recall my Jeep Commander has been nothing but trouble since I purchased it I have had all the recalls done by my local Jeep dealership and still have to constantly replace wheel speed (abs) sensors and reprogram the computer. At low speeds off aproxamitly 15-20 mph I loose power like the vehicle is trying to starve itself from fuel affecting accelerate so if you pull out into a intersection it practically dies and the. When you go to brake the pedal gets hard and the vehicle keeps rolling I have to replace all 4 wheel sensor (abs) and get computer reprogrammed for it to stop costing hundreds of dollars to do over the time that I have owned the vehicle I have learned to perform such task on my own . But I am sick and tired of every summer having to buy 4 50 dollar sensors and getting charged 125 dollars to redo the computer and not to mention when the Jeep decides to act up it put my child and mother to my child in serious danger never knowing when it will misfunction again and like many others I am upside down on the payments of the vehicle due to all the money invested.

24 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 03/04/2016

After having ignition switch fixed due to recall and battery, alternator and starter checked, we can not find an issues. It was serviced by a Jeep dealer. My Jeep will not start or will start and then after parking, will not start again. It leaves me stranded in parking lots and wherever I park it. This only happens after parking and turning Jeep off.

25 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 01/13/2016

Vehicle had the ignition switch fixed with the prior recall, but I am still having an issue with the engine light which has turned on and the vehicle slows down and seems to go into neutral while driving. This occurs around 20 mph, local roads and luckily not on a highway yet and if I press the accelerator nothing occurs and the traction control light flashes. My truck has not come up under the recall for this issue but I feel that it is related especially after reading all of the complaints, please help.

26 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 01/04/2016

The car jumps and then stalls when it is idling in reverse or drive. It also will accelerate on its own and the brakes are hard to press. This happens when the lighting bolt appears and the anti side lights on the dash, then the care either doesn't respond to pressing the gas and is harder to press the brakes. I have to restart the car for it to work. This all began after recalls being updated, it has been diagnosed as my power train control modual and that it has been recalled in other vehicles for the same reasons but there is no recall attached to my VIN according to Chrysler. Ive done research online and numerous other Jeep Commanders and other Jeep modules made around the same time are having the same issue. The problem is on going and has been for over a year but has gotten much worse after fixing of recalls a few months ago. The date below is estimate of when the recall was fixed.

27 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/19/2015

While in motion on an interstate, going about 70 mph the vehicle began to decelerate. The electrical warning panel flickered. When the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle would only go 30 mph with accelerator pedal depressed completely. Needing to get off of interstate, the vehicle continued to only go 30 mph on a city street. Occasionally, the vehicle would shake, jerk, and the electrical warning panel would flicker. Transmission over temp warning light then came on. Took vehicle to a transmission repair shop. Unable to put vehicle in reverse, vehicle will not respond. Waiting to be inspected to determine the problem.

28 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/11/2015

Vehicle stalls while driving on highway at speeds of 70 mph. Reporting problem pcm system software programming.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/03/2015

Nhtsa recall number: 14v-438 recall date: September 3, 2014 manufacturer recall number: p41 "summary: some Jeep Commander and Jeep grand cherokee vehicles may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving. Safety risk: this may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicles safety features including the frontal airbags. Remedy: Chrysler intends to repair vehicles free of charge (parts and labor). However, the part required to provide a permanent remedy for this condition is currently not available. Chrysler is making every effort to provide the part as quickly as possible. Recall status: recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available" I have had several incidents where all electrical other than the power train fails, including air-conditioning. If I jiggle my ignition switch everything comes back on. If this recall has such a high risk level of crash, injury, and even death, why hasn't Jeep come up with a remedy. I worked in the united states army combat readiness/safety center which deals with accident investigation and truly understand the risk of injury or even death that comes with this potential materiel failure. If I were the ceo for Jeep or worked in their safety division, I would not put this off any longer. It has been over a year since the discovery of this potential materiel failure and Jeep has done nothing. I recommend that Jeep is proactive to this failure rather than reactive.

30 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

I have had my Jeep for just over 2 years. This has happened 4 times and this is the forth time I've had to have the shift interlock module replaced. The car loses all power, you can't control it. I have been fortunate that it has caused a crash or fire or death but that is because I'm scared to death to take the vehicle anywhere. Last night the lights on the dash all came on - service engine, stability track, abs, break, etc. The car shifted into prnd and I could not accelerate. Fortunately I could brake and stop before it got ugly. This is unsafe. If you read the Jeepcommander. Com/forums it is full of similar instances. What has to happen before Jeep is made to fix this issue?!?!?!.

31 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/03/2015

My 2008 Jeep Commander sport 4x4 has been running fine. I parked the Jeep, but it in park and turned it off. When I come back 3 hours later my car does not start. I was able to unlock my car by using the remote, and the lights turned on when I opened the door. I put the key in turned it and the car would not make a single noise, and "damaged key" prompts on the dash and quickly disappears. I needed to move my car so I was able to get a jump bc of the position the car was in. I put my foot on the break and tried to put it in neutral and it would not let me. My friend was able to position his truck to jump start mine. Again, nothing worked.

32 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

My wife is driving the Jeep and it just cuts off in the middle of the road and this has been going on now for months. . . We received a recall notice last year and still waiting for the parts to come in. . It has been over six months and there seems to be know sense of urgency on the part of Chrysler. Must someone get killed on the highway because the vehicle shuts off because of the electrical system and Chrysler not having the particular parts. . . I am still paying for this vehicle. . .

33 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

My Jeep had an issue while I was on the highway driving 55 miles per hour. The park drive reverse and neutral lights lit up and I could no longer accelerate. I was rear ended with my children in the car. This is the most dangerous vehicle I have ever owned. I have had I to the mechanic for repair and the mechanic called Jeep and Jeep was not clear on how to fix it. My mechanic reset my computer and it corrected the problem for a little while but now I was in an accident. I am telling everyone who will listen. This is dangerous. It's a bad product and it needs to be recalled. I know that people need to die before they do something. I am just glad it wasn't one of us tonight.
