When attempting to move my child's car seat to the 2nd row driver side outboard, the car seat is unable to be installed properly. Our britax marathon car seat cannot be moved from the center position to an outboard position because the head rests on the 2nd row seat tilt forward and cannot be removed. With two children in the car I will be forced to move my older child to a less stable and less safe backless booster seat, so that I can put my second child in the infant seat in the center position. Had I known this at the time of purchase I would not have purchased this vehicle. Jeep has had many complaints but does not offer a solution or seem to care about child safety. Manually removing the head rest by disassembling the seat may leave 8" posts exposed, also not safe for children.
I purchased this vehichle in Aug of 2012 and have been having electrical issues that have caused my vehichle to shut of while driving. I have also had issues with starting because the electrical system is failing. I have researched this issue and there are already many complaints on this vehichle with the same issues I'm having. I am very disappointed in this vehichle after spending the money to purchase it with 44,000 miles on it and have had nothing but issues with the electrical system, dash lights, and battery.
Vehicle stalls. Approximately 2 years ago vehicle was doing the same thing. Replaced the map sensor. Now it is doing it again. Jeep has a recall but it is only the 2006 Commander built in certain plants.

All interior door handles are cracked and 2 of them aren't operable and myself and kids can't get out of the Jeep with getting help from an outside person to open the door.
The door handle has completely broken off the driver's side door. There was no abuse to this door at all. I have searched for a replacement part and the design requires that the entire door panel be replaced. This was changed the following model year as Chrysler knew it was a major defect. This appears to be a very common problem for owners of this year & model of Jeep.
This is in relation to previous complaints 10333965 and 10381374. Same problem occurred again on oct 24, 2011. While driving on freeway at about 60 mph, the vehicle made a sudden and violent jerk but did not totally lose power like in most other situations. This problem has not occurred since February 2011 and seems to only occur in cold weather.
We own a 2006 Jeep Commander . Took real good care of this car. It only has 40,000 miles on it and all four of the door panel have broke I mean into pieces 3 to the point the door latch has dropped down. The first one was when I just shut the door and then notice a crack,and then the rest did the same thing I an concern about my grandkids in the back,if they needed to exit in a hurry they could not. It takes a few minutes to get the latch just right to open the door. We also have had to have the rear end fixes twice. ,roaring noise. Jeep does not seem to want to do anything about this problem. So don't buy a Jeep. A bad fault in car design.
The same day I purchased my used 2006 Jeep Commander, I was attempting to open the rear passenger door from the inside when the trim around the handle cracked and a piece of plastic flew off. The handle now dangles, useless and loose. I was told by the dealer that they had also just replaced the driver's door panel prior to our purchase, having encountered the very same problem with that door. Unfortunately, it appears that these repairs require replacement of the entire interior door panel whenever the handle breaks. . . I'm being told it is a $700 repair.
I have a 06 Jeep Commander that has been completely shutting down while I'm driving. The rpms go up over 3 and 4 and the gears shifts from high to low. And also my engine light comes on and stays on.
Over the past few weeks while driving the vehicle will flash a warning saying service park assist system. When this happens the gear display on the dash prnd will all 4 get circled and flash and then as you are accelerating you can feel the vehicle lose speed. You can no longer accelerate the vehicle and have to coast off the road. Once you stop and shift to park then back to drive it will reset and then allow you to accelerate. I was going 65 on the freeway when this happened last and this is a major safety issue. For about the past 30,000-40,000 k miles we have had issues with it shifting properly and every time we took it to the dealer they can never re create the issue. Now we are receiving this warning and it actually stops accelerating on its own. It is happening more and more. We took it to the dealer since this warning now came on and they said they have never heard of it, they couldn't re create it, that it has nothing to do with the shifting and to turn off our park assist system so it doesn't happen. We are attempting a different dealer today but first thing they said is they never hear of this either. So comforting!.
I was pulling out of my driveway when all the instrument lights came on. I thought it had stalled! when I looked down, the ob data screen said awd system failed. I put it in park turned off the key and tried to restart it and it would not. That's when I looked up and noticed a lot of white smoke coming from the front of my car! within a second it turned to black smoke! I smelled something burning. I hurried up and got my son and I out of the Jeep and backed away, and within a few seconds there was a pop and the Jeep engine compartment was on fire. We called 911.
Cooling system. . . . Hoses getting tight and water not circulating. Top ratiorter cap cold. Also saying check gauges. Idels for 15 minutes then hoeses get tight hot gauge goes all the way over into the red.
The interior door handles on 2006-2007 Jeep Commanders fail when the plastic holding the handle to the door panel breaks, this could lead to not being able to exit the vehicle from the inside in an emergency.
Purchased 2006 Jeep Commander on 8/20/11 and I do not drive it on a daily. However, after driving for less than an hour on 8/27/11 the dash lit up with the message "transmission over temp", after googling I noticed the transmission message is a common problem in Jeep vehicles, mainly Commanders. I also read that after several "transmission over temp" messages the vehicle will stall, a couple of people reported it doing so in the middle of heavy traffic flow. Also, after stalling the car will not restart until it's left sitting for hours. Some have let their Jeep sit for 4 days before getting it to restart and others for weeks/months. About a month later it rained for the 1st time since I've had the Jeep and I noticed the handrail, located top left above passenger side, was dripping onto the dashboard and the floor was wet as well. Googled the water incident and found hundreds of complaints regarding wet front interior after rain (in Jeep Commanders, various years). Some complained of mold growth and stated there seems to be no solution to the problems; mechanics are stumped at both wet interiors after rain and "transmission over temp" message. Both incidents have made me a bit nervous since I have a 10 year old riding with me majority of the time. I've contacted the Jeep corporation and Jeep asked me to contact NHTSA. Not sure what steps to take at this point.
Vehicle driving anywhere from 35 to 70 mph suddenly without warning goes into third gear! causing instand slow down and vehicle shut down.
All four interior door handles and plastic around the door handles are beginning to crack and break. The plastic indent underneath the interior door handles has become extremely brittle and will crack if you barely touch it. The driver side door handle has broken from the inside of the door panel and all the plastic surrounding the interior door handle has begun breaking and falling inside the door panel. I have thoroughly researched this issue and have found that this is a very common complaint and was surprised that there has not been a recall notice associated with this. Interior door handles are extremely fragile and can easily break off which would prevent someone from escaping the vehicle in an emergency. I took my car to the dealership and was told that to repair the door handle, the entire door panel needs to be replaced (at approximately $600 including parts and labor). This does not guarantee that the issue will not happen again as they have not made any changes to the door panels to prevent it from doing so. $2400 to repair the inside door handles of my vehicle with no assurance that it won't happen again seems to be immoral and illegal.

The driver side door latch of our 2006 Jeep Commander 4x4 suffered a failure causing the door to not be able to be opened from the inside of the car posing a significant safety risk. The door latch is a plastic pull which is part of the one-piece molded plastic door panel. The plastic behind our door latch started to crack over time and upon a family member closing the door and the door panel coming in contact with the individual's leg, the door latch completely detached from the door panel causing it to float inside the door cavity. The door latch then fell apart and the only way to open the driver side door is to reach inside the hole in the cavity to find what the door latch was attached to. Having the door latch only secured to thin molded plastic of the door panel is a design which led to our safety failure and we are not the only individuals with this issue. Upon researching online, there are dozens of other individuals who have had one if not multiple door latch failures in early 2006 Jeep Commanders causing a safety risk. The interior door handles of 3 out of 4 doors have all cracked and broken into pieces. These handles have no become a safety concern, based on the ability to free the passengers from inside the vehicle in the event of an emergency. I have two small children under the age of 5 and it has become virtually impossible to open the doors from the inside.
A nut fastening a tpms stem to the wheel/tire failed resulting in a tire blow out. Upon inspection of all other tpms stems, another nut had a fracture its entire length and had to be replaced.
Drivers side interior door handle has broken. I went to exit my 2006 Jeep Commander and the plastic behind the door handle broke away from the door panel and I couldn't open the door. I had to exit the vehicle from the passenger side. I am thankful that it wasn't an emergency situation like a fire! this should be a recall! very dangerous!.
The vehicle stalled while being driven the first time the same month it was purchased. Took it to the dealer I bought it from who said they couldn't find a code and sent it back to me. It has stalled numerous other times in the 5 months my wife and I have been driving it including on interstate highways, mountain roads and in our neighborhood. Just suddenly stops running. Have to bring the vehicle to a stop. Turn key to off position and restart. No problems re-starting. Have taken it back to the dealer two more times with the same result (no code; no work; sent home). Called Chrysler who also said they couldn't help.
At random times, when trying to start the Jeep it wont start and say transmission over temp. At first it would take a couple days before it would start again. I used it for a few more days and it did the same thing. A couple hours later it started back up. After a few more times of happening ive noticed you can put it in neutral and back in park and sometimes it restarts. The dealership has looked at it and said they had another one with the same problem but no fix for it.
The thin plastic housing for the door handles on the 2006 Jeep Commander have both cracked, fallen apart and fallen into the door. Now I continue to get scratched and cut on the pieces that remain. After reviewing online post, it is apparent that this is a defective part.
All interior door handles are cracked due to plastic material cracking. Handles are all exposed and hanging by a spring. At times handles won't open doors & they have to be opened from exterior. Extremely dangerous if in a situation where you couldn't exit vehicle. It appears from research that the manufacturer will not replace even though this is an extreme widespread problem. Many threads online discuss this issue. The fix is to replace entire door panel at up to nearly $700 each. I can't imagine having to pay $2800 to fix my door handles due to a manufacturer's faulty design.
I have been having problems with my 2006 Jeep Commander stalling and the rpm idling. . It continues to stall on me while driving on the freeway (70 mph) and on the surface roads. It has been at the cerritos Dodge dealership at least every two weeks since April 2011. . They continue to fix something but tell me that that car is fine and the next week it is back again. Even the service advisor told he that he didnt think I would ever put my kids in that Jeep again. I picked it up may 28th and was told that they cleaned the circuit board and that everything would be fine. . . Needless to say, the Jeep is at the dealership again. . They keep telling me that nothing is wrong with it, but yet, it stalled on me twice today. Once on the way home from work and on the way to the dealership. . . I keep asking Chrysler and Jeep corp for help because this Jeep is dangerous and they refuse to help me because it is out of warranty. It has been at the dealership at least 5 times since April 8, 2011. Please help me, I have all the documentation to support my concerns. . . I have spent alot of money getting this Jeep repair and it still stalls . . . . Please help me, I am concerned about my family's safety.
While traveling in "drive" the vehicle would not accelerate or decelerate. On the dash board all the gear 123d had lit up squares around them. When I pressed the accelerator to the floor nothing happened. This can cause a crash and possibly kill somebody including my family. I ended up having to pull to the shoulder of the road. Turn the vehicle off and restart it. When I did this everything worked normally. I have heard of problems like this before. I bought this vehicle used from a volkswagon dealer who told me the powertrain warranty was transferable. It is not. The vehicle only has 44000 miles on it and I don't understand why it is so unsafe. Please help. . No work has been done on this vehicle due to lack of funds, a warranty and every time I call a Jeep dealer and ask them what it is I get a different answer and I don't believe that they know what they are doing.
Both rear interior door handles inoperable. Only way to open rear passenger doors is from outside. Rear seats rarely used, not broken due to overuse!.
There is a major design flaw with the inner door handles on my 2006 Jeep Commander. I know Jeep changed the design in 2008 due to this problem. The housing and hinge are made entirely of plastic and are very brittle. After a few years of use the plastic starts to crack then break away and the inner handle will not function. This poor design in itself should be a $10 fix but unfortunately in order to replace the handle you are forced to replace the entire inner door panel. Why is my family potentially being put in harms way for a part that could be easily improved to prevent failure?.
My 2006 Jeep comannder is experiencing problems listed by many owners, delayed tranmission engagement, warning lights flashing on & off, won't start. It has stalled once. I have checked my VIN # for recalls and it's not on any list. I am afraid to drive my vehicle and have no other tranportation. The dealer I contacted has not heard about the flashing light problem and has not got back to me after giving him my VIN #. I am also experiencing problems, although not life threatening, they should not be happening to a $40,000 vehicle; whistling windows, the side of my drivers seat broke off and it contains the electrical cords for my seat, the windows don't opreate properly. I did not think any of these things to be of consequense until I started researching my interior light problem.

1. My 2007 Jeep Commander acts as if it slips out of drive to neutral. All the p r n d lights light up and I have no gas power. This happens every time I drive it. I have to push the shifter to the right to try and get it to go in gear or pull over and not drive it. Brought it in and stated it was the starter. Fixed that and now the problem is worse. The car will not go over 20 mph. I finally have a new Chrysler dealer that is going through proper steps to figure the problem out and the have kept me informed. The outcome is a electronic shift module. I am just over my warranty and it is going to cost approx. $1000. 00 to fix plus the $397 I just spent on the starter that I may have not needed. The worst part is I googled this problem and there are so many Commanders out there that have the same problem and it is a hazard and safety issue! going down the highway at 65 and all of the sudden no power is scary.
Water leak - left side header from visor to across top of door down driver side pillar, driver side & left rear floor soaked. Sunroof drainage tube at fault. Water leak damage has occured twice in less than 1 year.
2007 Jeep Commander enging stalling problem. The vehicle initially stalled while driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph. It has been an ongoing problem for approximately 8 weeks and continues to stall while driving, idling, and turning. It has been into the dealership for this problem and they contine to replace things at random that are not correcting the problem and have told us they they do not know what is causing it to continually stall. So far every time it has stalled it has started right back up but my biggest concern is that it will cause an accident if I can't get it off the ride when it stalls while driving.
1. No prior maintenance had been done in the affected area. 2. The rh front passenger tire retaining bolts stripped causing the tire to leave the vehicle while in motion. The threads of the bolts remained in the hub. 3. The hub was replaced at the dealer with no other damage to steering or alignment.
Front and back door handles break under not much use. They are plastic and believe this is a design and material flaw. Wen they break, the only way to exit the vehicle is to roll down the window and reach outside and open the door or to exit through another door. This has happened twice to me and from speaking with others, it seems this is a common problem. What makes it worse is that Jeep does not sell just a replacement handle. They make you buy an entire interior door panel at $600+ to fix not including labor. My fear is that this is not just an inconvenience, but a major potential safety problem. I would encourage NHTSA to investigate and would recommend a fix and ultimate recall. This is very dangerous, particularly if you are in an accident situation.
Vehicle begins to stall, and has no acceleration, check engine light comes on, and all gears are highlighted on the dash. It has become more frequent, and now is happening at highway speeds, where before it happened from a stopped position attempting to accelerate. On 01/22/11 while traveling approximately 60mph on a freeway, the gears selections where all highlighted, and the car began to bog, and had no acceleration. This was a cause for concern being on a major congested highway in chicago, with my family in the vehicle. This stalling problem has happened approximately 20-30 times since it first started happening.
I purchased the 2006 Commander in June 2010. The first 6 weeks I had the vehicle I loved it. The first incident I had with the vehicle was the service park assist warning came on and stayed on for two days, then went off on its own prior to getting an appointment to have it checked. The next incident happened when I was idling in traffic at a stoplight. Every indicator light on the dash came on and the vehicle started to stall but did not completely stall out. Since that episode I have had issues with the driver side front window and passenger side rear window not functioning properly (at times won't roll up or down from either control). More recently I have had increasing episodes (two to three times per month) of the dash lighting up, headlights dimming and the vehicle losing power (so far always while parked or shifting from park to drive), as well as the service park assist warning and window issues. After hearing of a coworker with a 2007 Commander having some of the same issues I began searching the internet and have found numerous complaints of the same issues as mine. I am afraid to drive this vehicle with my children inside in the event that it would stall out on the highway and I would not be able to control it. I spoke with the dealer that sold me the vehicle yesterday and they have agreed to look at it free of charge this morning since there is no warranty on it now, but I still am not sure I want to keep this vehicle any longer. Chrysler needs to recall these vehicles and fix this issue. I used to be a die hard Jeep fan. . . But no longer! I am surprised that I have not found any reports of death or serious injury as a result of these electrical issues with this particular model.
My adult children's 2008 Jeep Commander engine has quit running, while they are driving, eight times in the past 4 months. (7/26/2010 thru 11/26/2010). The last time the engine quit running my son was driving the car, he was able to restart the engine with the car in drive (turning the key multiple times). They have had many issues with warning lights flickering and/or staying on. They have taken the Jeep to waldorf Chrysler Jeep dealer 8 times due to engine failure. They have repaired module wiring, replaced the starter and turned the core, performed routine check up and maintenance, run/start circuit repaired, throttle and gasket repaired/replaced twice, currently in the repair shop. Dealer would only provide rental car if the kids paid for it. Also took the Jeep to Dodge dealership in waldorf 8/2010, they could not find a problem.
Engine stalling or not starting. Engine stalled while making a turn. Car started immediately after but engine and oil lights remained on. Service deparrtment replaced censors but that did not correct the problem. Sporadically stalls at take off, when slowing down to turn/stop, when cruise control is disengaged at highway speeds. On highway, hit brake to disengage cc and switch lanes, car stalled, turned the key without putting it in park or stopping and engine kicked back in. Car wouldn't start on one occasion and service department replaced alternator but problem still persists. Service department replaced ignition switch but problem persists with car not starting. Stuck at highway rest stop for 2 hours until car re-started. Service department stated that computer needed to be replaced, then said that they weren't getting that code the next time we had problems. Have replaced various parts but problem still persists. Service department states that they have not been able to re-create the problem while driving.
2006 Jeep Commander 4. 7 liter having issues with engine stalling when stopped and also when starting to apply pressure to gas from stop in the 5-10 mph range. Does not matter if the vehicle has just been started or completely warmed up. Nothing I am doin is causing this too short to hit keys with knee. Have to turn vehicle completely off and start back up. Have had vehicle for about 6 months since June 2010 now and have had the incident happen at least 20 times. Have read on numerous forums of this incident happening and no fix for this found yet please get the ball rolling to get a fix before someone gets killed.
Interior door handles break easily, and come apart. This is a safety concern when trying to leave vehicle in an emergency- car fire, accident, or if vehicle falls into a body of water. In this vehicle, 3 of the 4 interior handles have easily broken from the door panels. They are built weaker than a child's toy car. Updated 01/20/11.
There are no events leading up to the failure, other than normal opening and closing of doors. I have a 2006 Jeep Commander and the door handles are cracking and breaking off. The front passenger door handle is completely broken and my daughter can not open the door unless she opens the window and uses the outside door handle. The driver side back passenger door has now done the same thing. The driver door handle is now cracking and I am afraid it will do the same thing. The car only has 51,000 miles on it and it is very dangerous that if the car were to wreck and power windows couldn't be used, my passengers would be unable to get out.

While driving, the engine will suddenly die without warning. All power steering/brakes are lost. It will restart immediately. This is an ongoing, but random problem. The only code that is recorded refers to the ignition relay module. To date the egr, ignition relay module, and crankshaft position sensor have been replaced. The problem persists. This problem represents a severe safety issue, as a loss of power while pulling into traffic could have catastrophic consequences.
All 4 interior door opening handles breaking/failing: 1 rear door totally inoperable. ***this is a dangerous safety issue – if handles break or are inoperable in certain emergency situations, passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer charge to replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive: in my case, the cost of six (6) monthly car payments! manufacturer safety recall warranted!�.
After completing a one mile trip without incident, I got back in my 2006 3. 7 liter v6 4x4 Jeep Commander and started it up. I then put it into reverse and began to back up when my power-steering failed. I put it back in park and turned off the engine and then restarted the engine. The power-steering was functioning again, so I put it in reverse and began to back up. After about five feet the power-steering failed again, then the anti-lock brake system failed and it was incredibly hard to brake. The abs light also came on. I then backed into a parking spot and turned off the engine and then restarted it. The power-steering was still failing and the abs light still lit up. The engine then died after about 30 seconds. I then attempted to restart the vehicle and it wouldn't start and the red alarm light came on. The battery is good.
Transmission cup plug leaking.
While opening the right rear passenger door of my 2006 Jeep Commander the inside door handle broke, this prevented the passenger from exiting the vehicle. I contacted the Jeep dealer and they informed me that they did not have any issues relating to the door handle. I removed the door panel and made the necessary repairs. Two months later the left rear handle broke and then the right front passenger handle broke. I made repairs to both of those handles as well. Last month the right rear handle has broken again, I have did a temporary repair on the handle. My fears are that if I was to get in some type of accident where the passenger(s) would have to exit the vehicle in a hurry that the handles will fail and the passenger(s) will not be able to exit the vehicle in a timely manner and could result in the passenger(s) being trapped inside the vehicle. There should be some type of safety recall.
I have a 2007 Jeep Commander and it is less than four years old and I have had the starter replaced 4 times. Jeep can't explain why they can't fully fix the problem and they refuse to acknowledge that this is an issue with the Commanders at large and not my specific vehicle. In addition to having had the starter replaced 4 times, I have also had the electronic shifting module replaced as well and the crankshaft. My Commander has less than 40,000 miles on it and has been well maintained since I purchased it brand new. Jeep has failed to address my concerns and refuses to accept responsibility for selling me a vehicle. Jeep suggested I purchase a new vehicle and I find this preposterous due to the fact that the car is less than four years old. The Commander is clearly defective and Jeep needs to take responsibility for it. Instead, Jeep refuses to accept responsibility and they decided to rectify the problem by halting production.
My brakes pulsate when I pump them coming down hills. The dealership continues to tell me there is nothing wrong with my brakes. It is really bad when I am coming down a mountain and I am scared that they will fail on me. It has happened every time I've traveled to see my daughter in college in the mountains. I've tried going very slow and pumping as to not pick up speed. I am very concerned for my safety.
Jeep Commander will completely turn off at random times when driving, most seem to happen when Jeep is idling or moving slow. Has not happened at time were an accident has happened, but has turned of in middle of intersections several times.
This has happened on more then one occasion. The 1st couple of times the check engine light was one, it took 2 times there and they replaced the modular. After that that was taken care of but then while driving down the street all the instrument lights on the panel came on and all gauges went to zero. The second time this happened, I was driving to work going about 35 miles per hour, again all lights on instrument panel came on and the Jeep stalled causing my wheels to lock and my steering to not work, I had to skid off the side of the road, thank goodness no one was behind me. I started my Jeep a couple minutes later and the check engine light and all gauges were still at zero and frightened, I was able to drive home through the neighborhood. I took it to the dealership which was there a day because they knew I was furious at this time because I could have caused an accident causing injury to myself and other drivers, I then got it back and was driving home again thank goodness not on the freeway and it happened again. I took it back to the dealer who told me there is nothing that can be done because nothing is being detected on the chip so they can not fix it, they advised me to just drive it and keep a log of the pattern to help them determine the cause. I called the service manager and told him that I have a huge problem with them asking me to drive this for a pattern and causing a potentionally fatal accident to get a pattern which they already know had done this before, the service manger is having the service writer drive my Jeep and has been so for almost a week now. I can't believe that this issue is not being taken serious, I could have caused a very very serious accident on the freeway and more so when it starts to snow. I do not feel safe in this vehicle, not only for myself buy other's on the road. This is something that needs to be taken care of now before someone loses there life.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the engine was running and the vehicle was parked. While buckled in the passenger seat, her two year old grandson placed the vehicle in reverse. The contact jumped in the vehicle and applied the brake, however the vehicle slightly crashed into the garage door. The rear bumper was damaged. The driver side back up system did not work. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer. The VIN and failure speed were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 18,500.
We own a 2006 Jeep Commander that has been a problem from the first month we owned it. The first incident occurred when my wife and 3 children were driving on the highway and the vehicle shut off at 65 mph. The vehicle has consistently experienced the same challenge at low and high speeds. In addition, we have experienced similar issues as other owners such as; transmission noises and slippage, electrical system failures, excessive break noise, break wear, excessive cracking in windshield, seatbelt failure, window leaks, stereo replacement and more! in the last 9 months this vehicle has been to the dealer for repair more than 6 times for similar issues. The dealer, as with other customers has claimed they "can't replicate the problem. . . " and sent us on our way. I have now embarked upon having the vehicle bought back by the manufacturer and will also begin a formal legal case to ensure other owners receive retribution. This car is dangerous and the manufacturer is aware of these problems, you are not crazy and the dealers are covering it up!.
I recently purchased a new 2006 Jeep Commander limited. The vehicle currently has less than 6000 miles. Over the past few months the Jeep has unexpectedly stalled at least 7 times. One particular stall happened while pulling into a busy street and nearly resulted in a collision. I want to return the vehicle but the dealership will not take it back. I purchased the Jeep for my wife to drive and she takes our 2 children with her in the vehicle. I am very concerned about them being injured or more even more serious consequences as a result of the Jeep stalling. My goal is to receive a full refund or to have the vehicle replaced with same make, model, etc with an engine that is mechanically sound and does not stall. What are my options?.
1) 2006 Jeep Commander began stalling just weeks after purchasing it. The vehicle has stalled about 10 times in 12 months. 2) the vehicle completely stalls while driving (usually while in the process of slowing down), or when coming to stop or when beginning to go. This has happened in parking lots, intersections, as well as driving on busy roads. Luckily the cars behind put on their brakes before rear-ending my car. However, the result could easily be an accident - which I am trying to prevent. 3) brought the vehicle two times to the dealership where it was purchased. I was told that while they and Chrysler are aware, they have not come up with a fix for the problem because they do not know what is causing it. I also called Chrysler's customer service number and was told that I had to get a second opinion but there was nothing else they could do because the problem has not been diagnosed.
I purchased a new 2006 Jeep Commander limited 4. 7l 4wd. I was driving down the highway on one occasion and a rural road on another occasion at separate times in on the same day (two days after purchasing) and was moving at around 70 mph on the hwy and 45 on the rural road when I shifted in my seat. My right knee made minor contact with the ignition key and it turned the vehicle off completely, no dash lights no motor, no power steering or brakes. I managed to get the vehicle off the road and luckily no one was behind me or beside me either time. I had to put the vehicle in park then restart the motor and go from there. I can only imagine if a young driver had been at the wheel or if there were cars around me at the time. I am not a large or very tall person. I went to edmunds. Com and went to the vehicle forum on problems and issues and read where others had experienced the same thing. I contacted the dealer the next morning and was told to contact the manufacture, when I did they sent me a prescripted note saying to contact the dealer. I told them that the dealer told me to contact them and they sent me another email stating to go through the dealer. And they thanked me for my input. This problem is not a broken part issue it is a design flaw in the vehicle. The ignition key is located at such an angle and close to the knee so that when it gets hit from the left it forces the key to turn out of run to acc or off. It does not take much force to do this and the detent in the run position is very week at best. This to me is a real safety issue that needs to be addressed with the manufacturer.
Vehicle completely stalls and shuts down while driving. . . No matter what speed. It happened to me at 45 mph as well as 25 mph. When this happens there also is no steering. . . . . Almost got into a serious car accident due to this repeated problem. Have taken to get serviced and they can not find anything wrong.
Purchased 2006 Commander in may 2006. The day I drove it off the lot I heard wind noise. It has since been in for repairs 4 times, including removing the dash which now has left me with a squeaky dashboard. Have contacted the district manager, who wants one more chance, called corp Chrysler hq who opened a file & then closed it without verifying my satisfaction, have reopened a file with Chrysler, tried to speak with a service manager at the 800 customer service number and was refused.
2006 Jeep Commander recall question customer is asking if the ea07007 NHTSA action is going to result in a recall* the consumer inquired as to how long it will take to reach a resolution. Updated 07/23/07.
