I was driving down the hwy and my vehicle turned off. I lost power steering breaks and was not able to properly maintain control of my vehicle in order to avoid an accident. This had happened twice before this time, and I looked to see that there was a recall on my Jeep for an ingition switch and the the exact discription of what would happen if my car was effected fit my situation. I then called Jeep and advised them of this and they said I neeeded to have it diagnoised by a Jeep dealership. I had the vehicle towed at my expensense and rented a car at my expense. The dealership confirmed my assumption and in fact the issue I was experiencing is part of the recall. Jeep now tells me they don't have the parts and they have not made a decision on whether it's neccessary to provide a replacement vehicle until they have a resolve. Am I supposed to be without a vehicle or potentially drive mine with 3 children, and potentially loose power again causing a loss of control? what I am supposed to do from here?.

While driving out to my parent's with my daughters my Jeep just shut down,{stalled} while going 50-55 mph. Lost power steering and brakes, had to shift into neutral and re start. This happened four more times in the next 8. 4 miles. After dropping of my kids my husband followed me to the dealership to drop it off. About 9 miles away, and it shut down 6 more times at various speeds. Dealer does not know what's wrong and is waiting until Monday to get a response from Chrysler head quarters.

In September of 2014 I recently bought a 2006 Jeep Commander. A few weeks after purchasing the vehicle I noticed the car was shutting off when I was at stop signs, red lights, and most seriously when I was driving. I was not sure as to why my car was doing this. I tried everything from a new battery and countless appointments at my mechanic. I was not informed of any type of recall on my car, until I did my own personal research. In may of 2015 I took my car to a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and ram dealership to find out when I could order the part for the p-41 recall on my car. I was informed that the part was not available in the country and they were not sure of when it would arrive. I was told the car was "safe" to drive. I was given a few tips: sit far enough away from the steering wheel so my knees were not close to the key, have the car key only on a ring by itself, always wear my seat belt, and avoid having a front passenger. It was only a matter of 4 weeks until I was experiencing the issue again. I was driving on the highway with my boyfriend and one year old daughter going about 65mph when my car completely shut off, I lost power steering, brakes, and every single light turned on. I had to resort to pulling the e-brake which did not help slow my car down. This was the most serious and dangerous incident, luckily we did not get hurt, or hurt anyone else. As a result, I took my car to another Jeep dealership and was advised the same information that the part was not able to be ordered and given the same tips. I requested a rental for the safety of myself and my daughter. It took me 2 weeks to finally receive a rental. I have had a rental for almost two weeks now and was told by the dealership, by pulling the e-brake it was going to cost me $1600 to fix. I do not feel as if I am responsible for the cost of the repair, considering this was caused by the p-41 recall.
While driving on Sunday July 6, 2014, my vehicle suddenly shut off and lost power steering. We were able to pull off and restart the vehicle. This happened a couple of times and then seemed to run normal.
My beloved Jeep Commander suddenly shut off while driving at 40mph. With no prior problems or warning signs the engine completely stalled- instantly I lost both power steering & brakes. Needless to say I was terrified. After much confusion & hassle I was told to replace my key. (reason being the 'chip' inside was malfunctioning. ) I replaced the $270 key which solved nothing. To my surprise, many Commander owners experience this same problem with no help from Jeep. Not only do Jeep dealerships ignore the potential recall warning on the Commander, but they actually recommend expensive 'solutions' that do not even touch the known problem. It seems as though there are no solutions for this faulty system, given that no dealership can successfully stop the shutting off. There are way too many owners experiencing the same dangerous stall. I cannot in good conscience ignore the fact that this problem goes beyond inconvenience; this is potentially very dangerous and the Jeep Commander needs to be recalled.
On two separate occurrences so far, the Jeep has randomly stalled out at highway speeds in traffic. Accelerator and steering loose function. Other times it has nearly stalled but regained operation. Check engine light comes on with code for large vacuum leak? dealer was unable to find anything wrong and is currently evaluating again. Vehicle starts back up fine after pulling to side of road and removing and reinserting key. Safety issue to stall at highway speeds and lose power steering! this does not appear to be the first occurrence as there are many other complaints and a recall/investigation which noted it in 2007 vehicles but only issued a pcm recall for 2006 vehicles.

Hello, my 2006 Jeep Commander started stalling out over a year ago and has stalled on me on and off various times at different speeds but usually at a higher rate of speed, which has been very scary. I have chosen not to drive the vehicle anymore and now it is sitting in my driveway and I am driving a 1991 Honda because I cannot afford to buy a new car at this time. I just paid this Jeep off and now I cannot drive the vehicle. The dealer fixed the one recall on the vehicle called the front control module and it ran fine for a couple of weeks and now once again the car stalled out while I was headed to a camping trip with my kids a couple months ago going 50 mph and almost caused an accident. I was almost hit by a semi and several cars were honking and trying to avoid my Jeep. I lose all power steering and there are no notifications that the car will stall so it is very scary and dangerous for me and my children. I am so upset that I cannot drive the car and feel safe. I have contacted Jeep and they have a recall for 2006 Jeep Commanders that covers up to January 2006 and my vehicle was made in March so they told me there is nothing they can do. The recall was for the pcm which my car has the same code on the diagnosis but now they are telling me to take it to the dealer and I have to pay for this. I really hope that this situation can be resolved by Jeep stepping up and taking care of this issue for the safety of people.
Since the beginning of ownership, this car has stalled many times (as well as other various and odd electrical problems. ) many times I can turn the car off and on and it will restart. This does happen in parking lots and highway speeds as well. I have also lost power steering and brakes when in parking lots at a very slow acceleration speed. I have also had air bag warning lights go on and stay on then randomly shut off. The dealer has tried to help resolve but is limited by Chrysler's ability to recognize that there is a problem. If there is no code in the cars computer, there is no problem and can't be duplicated. If the problem can't be duplicated, there is no repair. But it keeps happening over and over. I have filed a complaint with Chrysler with no resolve. The dealership has had my car and drove it for 3 weeks to try to duplicate the problem. Since it is so random and they just didn't get enough time/miles in, the problem didn't happen. It stalled again about 3 weeks after that pulling out of my driveway. There has been no repair, because Chrysler says there is no problem. I have been in the middle of an intersection with a 15 year old on a permit driving with oncoming traffic. I have had this car since March 2006 and this has been occurring many times repeatedly since then. Not all have been documented and because it occasionally happens on weekends or holidays, I have no ability to get it in to a dealership. In order for them to be able to read a code, I would have to leave the car in a stalled position wherever it occurred and have it towed directly to the dealer. This is highly impractical and unsafe. Especially scary at high speeds on the highway. I do not want to be a casualty of Chrysler's failure to recognize that there are thousands of these vehicles out there doing this exact same thing. Do a "google" search see the #'s! something needs to be done!!!.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep comander. While driving 25 mph the engine stalled and he lost power steering control. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The mechanic stated that he was familiar with this failure. The mileage was 15,000 at the time of purchase. The failure mileage was 15550, and the current mileage was 15900.
