Car in motion. Incident happened at marker 173 northport FL fumes were detected while driving as I looked over there appeared to be smoke on the floor of the front passenger side. I noticed the passenger seat was warm in one spot so I moved my purse. My purse was completely melted as I picked it up smoke came billowing out from the seat. I was inhaling some sort of terrible smelling smoke. I opened windows so I could breathe. The smoke was getting thicker. Could not see from windows to get over to right side of road. Also as driving the odometer and speedometer needles were going back and forth but I was driving normally. I pulled over shut car off. Car seat continued to burn and smoke. Called 911 and fire department had to cut battery terminal and spray car to put fire out. Huge hole in seat where fire was. Seat warmers were not on. There were no passengers just myself. 8 Seats problem of the 2010 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 04/29/2015

Vehicle has just now reached 84000 and has been experiencing these symptoms for about 20000 miles now. The vehicle is experiencing what I believe to be short circuits within the cabin and are as follows /drivers door window actuater switch not allowing proper window operation . Also same affected side /drivers door is being indicated by vehicle notification system that it is open. Even when it's not also vehicle will not and does occasionally. Airbag light will stay on during supposed to be normal operating speeds. Vehic)ie when stopped as well passenger manual seat has a chattering sound when moved forward or backward. Vehicle has and does get its required maintenence routine however these anomalies couldn't even be explained fully the repair shop we had taken it to by some fluke the malfunction didn't occur each time we've havery taken it to them wowever me fear is that it is some kind of short in the electrical component and me cause a overheated situation and catch the vehic)e on fire. For clarification the vehicle does it through all operating modes as to which like I stated is a short of some kind. In the door is or the computer don't know. Couldn't get a straight on answer as far as to why it still does it.

9 Seats problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

My daughters were in the 3rd row seating when they went to buckle their seatbelts and they would not click in. They were both broken and would not stay attached. The plastic casing is falling off of them and they are not safe. The 3rd row right seat would not fold down. The latch that should be pulled would not engage and now the seat will not fold down. Lastly, the drivers side interior door handle crumbled inward and is not able to be used to open the door. I took my car to the dealer and they stated that it was my problem as it is not covered under the extended care warranty I purchased for $2500 and I would have to pay $700 for the door handle and $300 for seat belts and $100 for the seat to fold. I explained that the above was all safety issues and should be fixed by manufacturers and they said that it wasn't covered. I even told them that I saw the recalls and they told me that it wasn't for my Jeep. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer and considered a recall.

10 Seats problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

3rd row seating, when you fold down seats the seat belt does not fold down with the seats and gets jammed, the seats get freyed and torn. The seat belts do not work.

11 Seats problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/12/2012

When attempting to move my child's car seat to the 2nd row driver side outboard, the car seat is unable to be installed properly. Our britax marathon car seat cannot be moved from the center position to an outboard position because the head rests on the 2nd row seat tilt forward and cannot be removed. With two children in the car I will be forced to move my older child to a less stable and less safe backless booster seat, so that I can put my second child in the infant seat in the center position. Had I known this at the time of purchase I would not have purchased this vehicle. Jeep has had many complaints but does not offer a solution or seem to care about child safety. Manually removing the head rest by disassembling the seat may leave 8" posts exposed, also not safe for children.

12 Seats problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 03/20/2012

After coming home from work around 8:30 pm, I was awakened 3 hours later to the lights of a fire engine and the sound of my vehicle's alarm because of a fire in my front seat . The fire department's report stated that there was indeed a malfunction of the heated seats. I contacted my insurance company, and they determined it a total loss. I contacted the manufacturer's claims group, and upon their investigation, stated that is was not their fault or mine and it was nothing they are responsible for.

13 Seats problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

14 Seats problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/07/2009

I was cleaning my vehicle and moved the rear passenger seat to a folded position to access the third row seat. I heard a pop and the seat would no longer stay in an upright positon. If the seat is placed upright it swings back down. Took to dealership and they told me the frame on the second row was not working correctly they gave me a quote of $356. 85 for the part and $100. 00 per hour labor lasting from 5-6hours. I was also charged $109. 78 for a diagnostic. I would like to have the seat fixed as soon as possible this is my families sole means of transportation. I have small children that require safety seats in that place.

15 Seats problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

Cracked windshield -- my wife's 2008 Jeep Commander has experienced three chips in the windshield; one was repaired, one developed into a crack and the third has remained a "star. " in addition, a crack developed below the one cause by a pebble. We have also experienced rust stains on the third row seats where the seat fold-down hinges are rusting through the leather seat coverings.

16 Seats problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/20/2008

Leaking coolant- water pump in 2006 Commander needed to be replaced at 38,000 miles. I have also had problems with the fabric seats staining.

17 Seats problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/17/2007

Fabric is defective. Seats stain by just plain water. Looks disgusting and manufacturer wont do anything about it. They say I have to bring in and have it shampooed. I've done that and it doesn't fix the problem. They say since there are no recalls they can't replace fabric until there is a recall issued by NHTSA. I thought my car was under warranty. There are tons of complaints by other Jeep owners with the same problem. We are all being told there is no problem.

18 Seats problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/15/2006

I purchased a 2007 Jeep Commander in October of 2006. At about 2,000 miles, I experienced an electrical failure that caused many gauges to come on or go off. I did lose my headlights & the transmission downshifted. I pulled over, powered off the vehicle & restarted. The vehicle has done this same or similar problem 4 times now. I've filed the lemon law in indiana, but it was denied. The last time I experienced the electrical fault, my seat starting moving forward for a few seconds while I was driving the car. The vehicle has registered fault codes every time that I saved. Each time, the dealer can not duplicate & performs computer flash updates in hopes of correcting problem. In my opinion, the vehicle is dangerous to operate.

19 Seats problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander
