general problems of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Vehicle stopped acceleration at highway speeds on way to work in narrow highway stopping traffic and semitrucks narrowly missing collision. Dealership states the transmission cvt was leaking and therefore caused the issue that costly repairs are unaffordable for me. Bought used from private party a month before the incident now leaving me no funds to repair and no transportation to return to work.

Dashboard had check engine light on. Transaxle indicator light turned on when I was driving about 65 mph on the freeway and slowed down and wouldn’t accelerate. The large commercial truck behind me was unable to stop on time that it almost hit us behind. There was a construction on my right lane and cars on my left lane. It took me some seconds to reach the end of construction site in my right lane. A second or two more not changing lane to my right side would have hit me and my children. All the truck driver was able to do was pressed on the horn to make me aware that he is too close behind me. Changed of speed in a freeway that fast could have killed me and my kids. I have not been able to drive in the freeway with this car and even if I get it fixed, I still won’t feel safe to drive it. The car runs fine when the transaxle light doesn’t come on. Certain movement, light turns on and off.

The hole frame is rusted and broke up front. Ball joints are popping and not bad. The sway bars are popping and not bad. Reading brakes but are good. But all in all frame bad rusted out and busted.

Blood has been drawn, and a small amount of skin was removed. The upper metal latch for the glove box has a knife edge. It is apparent that there was no attempt to file the edge dull before it was painted over. This is located in an area where hands are supposed to reach in. A competent service department with a metal file and a paint pen can remedy this in one minute. I don't want anyone else to be similarly injured. Please enforce a recall. Purchased a 2007 Jeep Compass 2nd hand and found rear subframe and suspension parts is severely rusted . The vehicle clunks and hopps with every bump in the road. If you run over the reflectors while changing lanes vehicle will abruptly jerk in the directionyou are going. Took it to Jeep there was a recall for this problem that expired in 2017 I dont think there should be an expiration date for a safety hazard that thousands of Jeeps and or dodges have they told me they cant help me.

2007 Jeep Compass experienced subframe rust/rot with total failure at 76,xxx miles while being operated straight on a state highway.

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated the frame of the vehicle is rusted. The vehicle is unable to receive an inspection sticker. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The dealership was not made aware of the failure. Bh.

After filling up my 07 Jeep Compass not even as I was pulling out of the parking lot the Jeep started stuttering and shut off . . It happened multiple times until I got home. While accelerating it would act like it wanted to stall . And while coming to a shop it would cut off. I was almost hit because of this . And I had my disabled daughter in the car. I have read multiple complaints about this & something needs to be done .

I purchased vehicle in Feb 2018 for my then 16 year old daughter. Last couple of refuels, vehicle will stall out after leaving gas station. She looses power, steering & braking ability when this occurs. Vehicle will start back up drive along a while then stall out again. This happens several times then will operate normally till next fill-up.

I bought the Jeep Compass around July or Aug. No sooner then I bought it it would jerk when I would take off. Then my rpms would rev up. Lile its not shifting the rifht way. Also my Jeep has a hard time going up hill. I don't feel like my Jeep is safe and it scares me. Also my engine light came on today.

Today while leaving a drive thru my car stalled and then went back to normal, I pulled into a parking space 20 seconds after leaving the drive thru window and put my foot on the break. About 5 seconds after that my car had just died. I put it in park, and turned it back on and it started up with no issues and I drove home with no issues (about 20 miles from my home). This however is not the first tie but the third time in less then a month of owning it. The first two times happened after I filled my car up completely with fuel. Today my car was between one quarter and half tank. I had no check engine lights on either. The car seems to actually die whenever I am at a complete stop.

Replaced front tie rods, sway bar links and passenger side control arm 1 year ago. Noticed lots of noise and vibration coming from under the front of the car. Brought it to the dealer was told it needed driver side control arm and rear control arms but the cross member and sub frame were so rusted out he told me that the vehicle would still be unsafe to drive even with new parts. The cost of replacing the cross member and sub frame would more than exceed the value of the vehicle.

The car stalls and cuts off after filling the tank all the way. If not completely full car works.

I have an 07 Jeep Compass. I have owned it for 5 years and I have a major saftey issues. Gas light came on so I filled up. Got a few yards from the pump and it stalled. No check engine light or anything came on. Was able to pull into a parking spot. Every time I turn the car on it sputters a bit then runs. After about a minute or two of idling it stalls. Tried letting it idle and revving the engine. My car stopped in everywhere in roads, highways, and thanks god I didn't get into any accident. Subfame is falling apart rotted from a/c drip valve ! sway bar no longer connected to subframe! bad design of Jeep Compass 07 subfame !!!.

When I put gas in the car the first 20 mintues the car turns off when in motion on any street but only in those 20 mintues. After the 20 mintues the car is fine and it says it has no errors and it doesn't turn off.

Front cross member rusted out. Entire frame rusting making car very unsafe to drive I am haveing front member replaced but because of rust car is really unsafe to drive at hiway speeds.

The front cross member rusted through and the engine dropped,while driving but the car was at a stop. Also the rear cross member is also broken.

All the windows have problems working, they do not go up or down. Have had them worked on. At this time 2 work sometimes.

I received a letter in the mail in regards to an ignition switch issue so I went to different dealers to try to get it fixed but no one has been able to see me to fix the issue and I was told until March 2016 there would be more parts coming in and to come back during that time.

I had my vehicle in for regular maintenance and the mechanic informed me the front and rear subframe is rotten and have holes in them. He further stated this is not normal for a vehicle of this age and I should report the problem and call Chrysler as this can cause serious problems.

So since I've purchased my vehicle. All I can hear is clunking noises as if there are no shocks or suspension to this 2007 Jeep Compass 4x4. I bring my vehicle for an oil change and the mechanic tells me that the front and rear sub frames are completed rotted. These sub frames from what I know is very dangerous if not taken care of. It holds your suspension together. Why isn't there a recall on this matter yet? are they waiting for someone to die for them to make this issue a recall?.

I bought a 07 Jeep Compass from a private dealership less than a year and a half ago and took it to a mechanic before purchasing and no problems were found. On Tuesday of last week a weird noise was coming from the engines hike driving around town and after taking it to a local dealership/service repair center the issue was in my transmission and it needed to be replaced completely. . . Approximately 9 months ago the horn on my 2007 Jeep Compass began sounding at random. It was disconnected and in 2014 it was taken to the Jeep dealership (atlantic auto group, northfield NJ). I was told it was the horn pad and they would order the part. A few days later I was told the part was on back order and would be in at the end of January. From there I was continuously told it was on back order until now June 12th 2015 when I was told there are over 30,000 on back order and estimated ship time in August 23rd 2015 (as per atlantic auto). Needless to say I contacted Chrysler who told me they are switching manufacturers and do not have any timeline as to when this part will be in. I currently still do not have a horn and have been offered no help in the matter other than looking in a salvage yard for another one. I drive around with 2 young children in my car everyday and I am extremely concerned about how this situation is being handled especially since it seems I am not the only one (30,000 on back order) !!.

The car lost speed and sudenly stop at the road,the vehicle stays on but it doesnt continue and I have to wait 10 to 15 min so I can proceed to drive vehicle again.

I was driving in my neighborhood then went over a small bump and my car stopped. I lost power steering and all my dashboard lights came on. Once the vehicle stopped I took the key out of the ignition and tried to start it again. I had power but my engine would not turn over. This happens on a daily basis. My car starts when it wants too. I have no control or way of knowing if and when my car will start. I've driven it too and from work, then went to drive it later in the day and my engine will not turn over. I have power but the engine won't turn over. The esp light stays on my dashboard before it starts, if it starts it remains on the entire time while I'm driving. I have taken it to autozone and the ignition switch is something that is a problem. Anyone e else having these problems?.

Ignition failed to recognize key. Could not start vehicle. Had to invest money to replace ignition, key, and reprogram computer system.

The vehicle's engine has a consistent tendency to sputter, hesitate, and/or completely shut-off, especially after fueling. This has happened on busy roadways and and intersections. We have attempted to have the problem diagnosed and repaired but I quickly realized they had no idea what the real problem was and was employing a shot-in-the-dark method. Since then I have found several other owners with this same problem but with no response from Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge. I am the primary driver of this vehicle now, as I do not want my wife and child to be subjected to this potential hazard.

Bought the car brand new in 2007. Replaced left and right control arms in 2010 and again in 2014. The car only has 60,603 miles and its on its 3rd set of control arms. I should not be going through control arms that fast. I drive less than 2 miles to work everyday. Filed a complaint with Jeep in 2010 and they paid as "good will repair". The car was not under warranty. They refused to pay for the 2014 even though its only 30,000 miles later. Control arms should be lasting longer than 30,000 miles! the car has had numerous repairs including a gas tank problem where gas poured back out at you while you pump. Clearly there is something wrong with this vehicle. The attorney general in rhode island has referred me to this administrative agency. Could you please help?.

Once recall announced st pete Jeep said they had resolved the issue. However the dealership has a local reputation of saying the work was completed when it had not. Now I have moved to minnesota and the brakes are tightening. The bas and slippery signal is on and off. And the engine symbol is consistent on the dashboard. I feel unsafe in my vehicle and I feel the issues are related. The vehicle was towed to roseville Chrysler [xxx] they are charging me $140 to review the vehicle. The car goes off when it rains, you can start again the car. I took it to the dealer and they never found a problem. It continues to shut off when rains, no all times. Thanks elfren f. Rios.
