The vehicle has a problem that it will stall out after filling up with gas. The timing of the stall out is such that within a minute or two of leaving the gas station and pulling into traffic, the vehicle will buck and the motor will shut off. When this happens, the vehicle also loses power steering and brakes. This creates an incredibly dangerous situation as the driver essentially has no control any longer. It is a consistent, repeatable problem that occurs every time the vehicle is filled with gas.
Cvt transmission slips cause car to stumble in pulling out from stop when turning front wheels feel as if skipping n or not turning does this until transmission shifts then goes away. If cut transition control it does drive little better ti transmission shifts. . . . Had 2shop look at Jeep. . Both stated cvt transmislipping / failing . . . Less then 150000 miles on vehicle transmission has been inspected n fluid checked on several occasions fluid is never low.
Cvt overheats at highway speeds. When the cvt trans oil heat light comes on the car rpms increase and acceleration is lost. It was scary losing speed on the highway.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle suddenly began to reduce speed before later stalling and not moving. After shutting the engine off and later restarting the vehicle operated as normal. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 199,000. Jft.
This Jeep Compass was purchased for our college age daughter in March 2019, today while driving, her rear driver side wheel made a loud noise then felt like it dropped and upon getting stopped, she didn't wreck thank god, as she was pulling into our drive. Upon inspection it was discovered that her rear crossmember had rusted into. I searched and found that there had at one time been a recall on this particular part due to excessive rust from the salt belt states. We are in ky but when we purchased the vehicle it was titled in michigan, which is most definitely in that salt belt. I am not sure why this recall was not completed by the former owner but I believe it should be corrected no matter the age of the vehicle. This could have caused my daughter to be in a very serious accident. We had no information about any recall that had previously been issued.
While coming to a stop, at a light in heavy rush hour traffic, upon applying the brakes felt sharp jerk in steering with a loud snap noise. Not knowing what it was when light changed and I proceeded forward aprox. 2-3ft when car came to a sudden stop jerking to the left. Immeadiately placed car in park and looked out driver side window to see front left wheel angled back aprox 35 degrees and jamed into fender well. Called tow company and police arrived to direct and divert traffic, no police report made by police because no injuries or other vehicles involved. Tow truck driver & police both stated I was fortunate, because had I been going down the road when it happend it could been very serious and/or fatal to not only me but others as well. Car towed to nearest repair shop were it was discovered that subframe assembly had actually rusted/rotted through on left front end of vehicle and broke with everything attached to it (steering linkage, left axle, tie rod, etc. ) coming loose. Researched online and found there hand been a service bulletin 23-012-14 issued for front and rear crossmember corrosion and looking at other forums (ie myjeepcompass. Com) and safecar. Gov as well. Contacted Jeep customer service given case #34535927. Had to pay to have car towed again, this time to a Jeep dealer to inspect and confirm subframe failed. When I asked why there wasn't a recall instead of just a service bulletin that nobody sees except the dealer I could not get a straight answer. Jeep did agree to cover crossmember replacement after confirmed, but not to pay for the parts that were damaged from the failure of the crossmember which came to $844. 81 I had to pay. I think that would be a small price for them to pay in light of what the cost could and would have been to them for serious injuries and/or fatality related to their known defect. Now I get stuck paying for their defect.
I seen that there has been a recall on the same make, model and year for transmission problems. . . I just purchase the Jeep from a car lot 2/2017 had a 30 day warranty during that time they had to work on 6 times just made my second payment and I can't accelerate after it gets up to 40 first rpms didn't move at all the first time it happened now rmp and going up and won't go down. . . . I feel that it's could be a safety issue cause if I'm on the highway and it happens with no warning someone following close behind me that could ended badly and after looking into the problem looks like it happens alot with this model. . . .
I was trying to pull out of my driveway and it would hardly move forward, or pull ahead back in the driveway. Had it towed to the garage and they looked at it and said its wiring and transmission.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle and pulling out of the parking lot at 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The failure recurred after refueling the vehicle. In addition, the contact also stated that there was a fuel odor emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel cap needed to be replaced, the fuel injection system needed to be flushed and a tune up was needed. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. On another occasion, the contact stated that the transmission hesitated to shift gears and was jerking as if it was going to stall. The transmission was replaced on 6/30/13. The failure recurred and it was diagnosed that the oxygen sensors and the O2 harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer on 1/14/16 where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced again. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 131,483.
Jeep Compass stalls after refueling in motion on highway, steering locks up when car stalls and makes Jeep uncontrollable. Had Jeep towed to dealer and they found a bad charcoal canister was "full of fuel" replaced canister drove for one week and refueled managed to go 1 mile and Jeep stalled again at about 45 mph . Got Jeep stopped and restarted managed to get the last 1/2 mile home and it stalled again pulling in drive way and almost ran thru the front of my house before stopping. Extremely unsafe car returning back to the dealer service dept for the 3rd time . After reading online I have found this to be a common issue on the Jeep Compass some resulting in accidents from loss of control. I am finding the rollover valve is bad allowing fuel to be pushed back thru the evap system causing the stall.
The car lost power while driving down vermont in torrance even though the engine was on. I had to pull over to the curb. Earlier that week on Sunday Aug 26, 2015 I had to have my battery jumped by aaa. Instead of driving around I let the car run for half an hour. I revved the engine and the rpm stopped working although the engine was still on. I started the car the next day and it had clunking sounds while driving at lower speeds which disappeared upon driving freeway speeds. Upon trying to park the car at work it jerked while in reverse. I drove the car the next few days until it failed on Aug 31st while driving home on vermont. The car had to be towed to the scott robinson Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership in torrance, CA. Testing there revealed the car needed a whole new transmission at only 70,000 miles. They said it was not due to any fault of mine. I had the car towed to a aaa approved repair facility to get a second opinion and am waiting to see if the car repairs will solve the problem. It's fortunate the car didn't fail on the freeway.
1. Fuel pump started arching and nozzle to hose was coming loose-smelt gas while in motion, gas gauge started dropping dramatically 2. Horn stopped working-while driving I tried to warn another vehicle who was trying to back out while I was behind them, luckily they heard me yelling 3. Back windshield wiper stopped working while in motion trying to back out in the rain 4. Struts went 5. Rotors went 6. Cross member-noticed while driving and took 2 weeks before dealership could get my appointment right to get it taken care of since it was recalled 7. Tipm is going. Lost power to 2/2 outlets in the vehicle. 8. Cv axle is going. Sounds really bad and sounds like both passenger and driver side. Treated this vehicle with lots of care and so did previous owner. This tells me this is not a reliable vehicle and a safe vehicle I can drive my daughter in.
The alternator stops working after 90000 miles. You hear a big thumping sound like a tank. You do feel it but, is loud when accelerating and accelerating.
Pulling from a stop sign onto a busy road my transmission simply stopped working. The engine was on and the car was therefore idling into traffic, but nothing was happening when I was pushing the gas pedal. I was able to idle into a parking lot, where I turned the car off. When I turned the car back on, the transmission worked again. Earlier the same day, the transmission stopped working while the car was driving, but somehow re-engaged itself and began working again. I was coming to a stop at the time so it didn't strike me as the transmission until later that day when it repeated. Terrifying.
As I wrote in previous comments, I have spent over $11,000 over this period of time. I have replaced the wheel hubs, tie rod ends, the front suspension and all rods concerning the rear. I have replaced the transmission at 98,000 miles costing me $3200. The transmission could not be repaired, the whole transmission had to be replaced. And yes I have 158,000 miles, but if you compare $11,000 just on repairs to this pile of crap. I have complained before, and nothing happens. As I was told there were 14,000 complaints just what I have complained about and still no recalls. I have asked if they could just look into why Jeep Compass owners are going through tie rod ends, wheel hubs, suspensions.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle abnormally lost power and decelerated to 20 mph. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection where they advised that the tmc module and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 128,000.
I bought a 2007 Jeep Compass 11 months ago from lithia Chevrolet/Dodge/Jeep. It had 64,000 miles on it. In the 11 months that I have had the car the rack and pinion and steering pump have had to be replaced twice. At my expense. The ball joints have been replaced. My struts and brand new tires are destroyed. The whole bottom of the behicle feels like it is going to seperate from the frame. I started having these problems within 1 week of owning the vehicle. The dealership would not honor the warranty and would blow it off as me being "silly". The check engine light has been on 3 times and rather than fixing the car they just "reset" the engine light.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the transmission was dragging in every gear; she noticed the problem everytime she attempted to accelerate. The dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the transmission was the cause of failure but no other details were given. The current and failure mileages were approximately 68,000.
