1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2023

Dashboard had check engine light on. Transaxle indicator light turned on when I was driving about 65 mph on the freeway and slowed down and wouldn’t accelerate. The large commercial truck behind me was unable to stop on time that it almost hit us behind. There was a construction on my right lane and cars on my left lane. It took me some seconds to reach the end of construction site in my right lane. A second or two more not changing lane to my right side would have hit me and my children. All the truck driver was able to do was pressed on the horn to make me aware that he is too close behind me. Changed of speed in a freeway that fast could have killed me and my kids. I have not been able to drive in the freeway with this car and even if I get it fixed, I still won’t feel safe to drive it. The car runs fine when the transaxle light doesn’t come on. Certain movement, light turns on and off.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2016

Problems after fueling: after filling my vehicle up, without fail, the engine stalls, shuts off, violently jerks and/or decreases speed and then returns to regular driving conditions. I have changed the gas cap, gas stations and octane levels, as well as the amount of gas consumed, all without any resolve. Although I never tip off the gas tank, I will fill the gas tank and I experience erratic behavior without fail. It does not matter if I sit at the gas pump or drive away immediately, the vehicle will enter a distressing routine of jolting, and turning off. This has become a safety issue at times, the unpredictable behavior has happened in traffic while crossing busy intersections, driving down the highway as well as leaving the pump. If the vehicle is not in motion it will shut off completely. This occurs whether I'm still at the pump preparing to drive off, stopping at a stop sign, or while waiting traffic light. The jerking erratic behavior occurs anytime the vehicle is in motion. It does not matter if I'm going 5mph or 60mph. It always occurs withing 3 miles of filling up the vehicle. Time is not the remedy but rather distance as the vehicle my experience erratic behavior multiple times. This issue started 3 years ago and continues today. Please investigate this growing problem among Jeep vehicles to avoid future major accidents or fatalities. Concerned Jeep Compass owner.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

Car engine stalling and impossible to accelerate, took to dealership for a tune up 11//09. Dealer changed couple of plugs but nothing else was needed. 1/10 car towed to dealer. Dashboard lights were acting up, engine started stalling and couldn't accelerate, car simply died in middle of the road. Dealer said it was a bad coil. Asked me if I had washed engine, answer was no. Dealer replaced coil and stated problem was fixed. Car started acting up again. While driving on 1-16 (GA), car would stall, couldn't accelerate, even though pedal was to the car floor. Emergency lights on dashboard acted up, (one of my tires had 10 air pressure, pulled over and tire had 35 air pressure). Same issues than before, I thought car would die in the middle of hwy(7/11/10). Took to dealer 7/14/2010 and contacted Chrysler (was assigned a case). Dealer wanted to charge me $75 to run diagnostics, refused to pay, same issue as before. Dealer ran diagnostics free of charge, however Chrysler states there is no assurance problem will be covered. This is a serious safety issue, my car could die in the middle of hwy with my two kids inside ,cause a serious accident. I paid for the tune up, car was under warranty first time but nothing was said or fixed then. Problem persists and now car is out of warranty, and I need to pay for the repairs? dealer failed to find problem twice before. Chrysler and dealer should be held accountable for putting my life and my kids life in danger. Also held accountable for not repairing an issue that is very common among these cars of the same year. Recall was issued on speed pedal, but mine never received a letter. I feel very unsecure while driving car. Chrysler states dealer and company are acting in good will by running diagnostics for free. They are manufacturer of car, which has serious safety issues. Dealer failed to repair car twice while under warranty. Act is not good will, its their responsibility!.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2009

The event involved driving at moderate speeds in a small city environment 25-30 mph. I had just turned from a busy street involved with construction to another busy street and needed to accelerate quickly, so I firmly pressed down the gas pedal, but instead of going faster, I heard a loud snap and the main (dark gray plastic!) pedal fell to the floor of the car, leaving me vulnerable to traffic--which politely backed off when I unexpectedly slowed down in front of them. After turning on the emergency flashers I was able to coast to a safe place on the shoulder of the road, and called for assistance. I was able, after some experimentation, to find a one inch stub of accelerator pedal over the potentiometer, which I was able to use to move the vehicle to a repair shop. The pedal, on inspection, has a factory built-in circular and two triangular holes that penetrate the shaft--the break occurred here--and two grooves beside these holes. I had to purchase a replacement accelerator assembly--same flawed design--warranty did not cover this item and it was installed 6/5/09 at a local repair shop. At my request, I obtained the entire damaged part. I have both pieces, and can photograph them if requested, or can mail them to someone for inspection. My issue is that this item's failure could have resulted in a collision if the other drivers hadn't politely slowed to allow my emergency pull-over to take place. It also is a structural weakness that could render the vehicle non-drivable at a moment's notice. The entire pedal broke off completely without any intermediate partial breakage to warn me this was coming. I believe this pedal assembly should be replaced with a redesigned pedal without the structural weakness I described above at the expense of the manufacturer. I hope they use something a bit better than plastic.
