Door Hinge problems of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Six problems related to door hinge have been reported for the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Door Hinge problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2001

Weld on passenger's door hinge broke off. Dealership was aware of problem.

2 Door Hinge problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2001

Hinges on driver's door are cracking and will need to be replaced. Consumer states when door was made it did not align properly, the manufactureer put shims on some doors to make them align properly, the door is cracking, and consumer had them welded, however the cracking will just get larger and cause the door to not lock or close, door will need to be replaced.

3 Door Hinge problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2000

Driver 's door hinges broke. The consumer was not able to drive vehicle. Dealer wasn't going to cover it under warranty.

4 Door Hinge problem

Failure Date: 12/01/1999

Vehicle jumped gears from park to reverse, causing automatic locking system to engage, and the front driver's side door to break away at hinges. Consumer was parked on a slight incline. Dealer was not contacted. Please provide further details.

5 Door Hinge problem

Inside door molding failed.

6 Door Hinge problem

Hinges on driver's and passenger's sides are busting off. Welds are cracking on both doors. Cause unknown, dealer contacted.
