Conventional Parking Brake problems of the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Three problems related to conventional parking brake have been reported for the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Conventional Parking Brake problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2002

Emergency brake was inoperative, vehicle would still roll when emergency parking brakes were engaged. Dealer notified.

2 Conventional Parking Brake problem

Failure Date: 10/01/1999

Rear brake/ front and rear brake pads, and the emergency parking brakes disintegrated which caused extended stopping distance which may resultin a crash. Common problem. Please provide further information.

3 Conventional Parking Brake problem

While both doors were open when backing vehicle backwards, noticed child walking on side of vehicle. Consumer put vehicle in park to get child, and without and indication vehicle slipped out of park, rolling backward, and child got cought between doors, draging child. Consumer jumped into vehicle and pulled emergency parking brake, but vehicle continued to roll about 15 feet before stopping. Child was rush to hospital. Please provide further information.
