The horn on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped working a year ago, affecting my ability to warn others of safety issues. Mechanics tell me the horn "button" is embedded in the safety airbag in the steering wheel and can only be fixed by replacing the entire, costly airbag. That can be hundreds of dollars. I believe that horn switch replacement should be a recall item and the manufacturer should replace the switch , which required replacing the air bag. Or, the manufacturer should be required to add a supplemental switch on the dash to control the horn.
Vehicle stalls randomly while driving . Car can be going 70 and stall or just fail to move while still running then stall. This will happen randomly and sometimes will result in a check engine light which then goes out again and the car will run fine for days then happen again.
We finally got our n45 recall done. Each time we called Chrysler, we got different instructions and information. They seem to tell one anything just to get one to have it done, then they go back on what they said. I was told the Jeep would be inspected first to see if it was safe. My Jeep was not inspected, the trailer hitch was replaced. The ball mount which we have does not fit the replacement. The onus should not be upon us to shop and pay for a new ball mount in summation: how can we get them to send or deliver to us a ball mount which fits trailer hitch they installed, or at least re-imburse us if we have to buy one ? I have mentioned this to each of the many people I have spoken to at Chrysler (when I could get through after waiting a very long time) their answer to this was "we are not into towing we are into safety".
Ref: recall n45 for rear structure reinforcement. I scheduled a 10:00 am appointment with cole Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Mazda-fiat in san luis obispo about 3 weeks in advance. My wife and I drove to the appointment yesterday and were told that they would only need between an hour and 1 1/2 hours to do the inspection. Since we had to drive over 20 miles to the dealership, we waited in the waiting room. After an hour and a half, I inquired as to the status of the inspection. I was told that they hadn't even started work on the vehicle and that it would probably be afternoon before they would have someone available to do the work. Since had been assured both when making the appointment and again when showing up for the appointment that the inspection wouldn't take long, we asked her to contact with the service manager. My wife overheard the service manager tell our rep that she should tell customers that the vehicle should be dropped for an entire day (any warranty work, that is). It's pretty clear to us that the cole dealership could really care less about the customer in regards to recalls and/or warranty work (lowest priority) and we lost 1/2 day of time and gas to trying to take care of this. We asked to have the car brought to us since we were leaving. Our rep asked if we'd like to setup another date for the inspection and we said no! we wasted enough time and money and we won't be taking our Jeep in for the recall inspection to any Chrysler dealer.
While driving the vehicle shut off. As if power had been disconnected. After coming to a complete stop started right back up, after a while now it is backfiring, stalling out, bucking. I have read more complaints about this same exact problem the I care to read. Most of the time they lead to the pcm. And im cannot figure out why Jeep hasnt figured out the problem. I cannot afford to keep throwing money into the car to keep it running. Let alone I cannot afford to buy a new vehicle. I have replaced more sensors then I care to mention and have tried all the diy tactics. Now my muffler is exploaded. That battery keeps dying and I am forced to borrow a family members car to get back and forth to work because Jeep cant fix the problem. It has gone to a shop just to be told "we cant find the problem". It is unsafe for it to stall out and backfire in the middle of the highway. And it is killing my finances.
Vehicle stalled ,backfired, shows that I have more gas in vehicle than I have. Getting harder to restart. Stalls in traffic. Why haven't the government recall these vehicles. I read so many of same complaints and nothing seems to be done. These vehicles are unsafe!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
About 6 weeks ago my back right wheel actually fell off coming down the road at about 35mph. After I looked - one of the studs where the lugs go on actually broke and the other studs were stripped which caused the lugs to fall off. All studs replaced after that. Luckily I was close by my mechanic this morning when it was about to happen again - the back right wheel. There was a stud that was broken and the rest of the lugs were very loose.
My vehicle tolled to armory garage, because at that time, insurance had to keep sending someone to come and restart the vehicle. Or it will start but then turn around and stall later. After paying $1300 plus to armory garage, they only charged me for diagnosis and fixing problems with a battery being overdrawn. They claim to have replaced the bcm computer. However, after paying all that money I still have problems with my vehicle. I have replaced, starter, alternator, battery, computer module with armory garage, ignition coil fixed. All I keep getting is that the emissions is the problem because it states big and small leak. However, even today it has not been fixed. I have spent closed to over $3500 on my vehicle to get it running and it still stalls after all the above have been replaced. P0442, p0455, p0351, are the last codes to the vehicle. However, an evap purse solenoid has been fixed as well. All this money and still have problems with the vehicle stalling and running but turns off right in the middle of driving.
I received my safety recall notice over 2 months ago,and have not yet heard from any dealer #vc741345 n45 besides the gas tank problem,my Jeeps ignition just turns off while I'm driving. It really scares me to death. Plus after driving for atleast 30 minutes,and I put my car in park to turn off,the car keeps moving forward,like a jerk motion,I'm disabled & on ss & can't afford to buy another car. Please include my car in the recall for the ignition replaced,sincerely barbara w. Peterson.
The contact owns a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the oem trailer hitch was not installed when the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v252000 (fuel system, gasoline, structure). The dealer (lucas Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram, 1624 NJ-3838 lumberton, NJ 08048, 609-288-7663) refused to provide a solution and indicated that the vehicle was excluded from the recall campaign. The contact installed an aftermarket trailer hitch. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was excluded from the recall campaign. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.
Car sometimes does not starts. I just get a cranking , is being liked this for a couple of years. Spend money trying to fix it. But they can not find what it is. Always happens when I get to what ever I have to go,, I parked leave and then I comeback a few hours later. And it just cranks and does not start. I leave it there. Comeback the next day and then is starts. Left it w my mechanic for a week and he told , they can not find what it is !!!!.
