Seven problems related to brake light have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2015

The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving, the brake lights would not operate when the headlights were turned on. An independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure examined the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 132,000.

2 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

Agree 100% with complaint 10422899 and others. Replaced both rear brake light assembly's 3 times already. Plastic around contactor melts, metal no longer connects with bulb contact propetly. Issue is causing all kinds of safety, financial, legal (traffic violations, points on drivers license) problems. Including no brake lights, no working directionals. Extremely dangerous. Costly. Several safety violation warnings from law enforcement. Several close calls with potential rear collision. Operator never knows when it will or has occurred. This problem is needless and ridiculous.

3 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2009

The rear brake light on the driver's side does not work properly. When the headlights are turned on, the brake light goes out when brake is depressed. The bulb, the light socket, and the entire light assembly have been replaced. Replacing the entire light assembly is only a temporary fix, the brake light will again need to be repaired. This is not the first time for the brake light to malfunction.

4 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2008

Brake light and rear turn light keep going out most of the time I have to just remove the light bulb and put it back in to clear problem. I have two Jeeps with the same problem along with my daughter which also has a Jeep that had the same problem and they replaced the light assemble to correct it.

5 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2008

Vehicle: 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 2 wheel drive 4. 0 6cyc automatic there is a chronic problem with the rear tail lights on this make and model of vehicle. The issue is with the light bulb carrier and not the wiring. The lights have gone out multiple times and require either the replacement of the bulb carrier or "playing" with the bulb until it is in a position that makes good electrical contact. I have noticed almost every similar Jeep Grand Cherokee on the road has at least one rear tail light out ! how many accidents have been caused by this problem?.

6 Brake Light problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2005

Defective design of tail and brake lights. Failure of weld to make contact so that the tail and brake lights worked. This problem occurred approximately 3 years ago. Numerous repairs were made by auto mechanics, however, they wouldn't last. Had both tail/brake light assemblies replaced at my cost of $243. 96 just for the parts. The dealer where the parts were purchased said that they were not even making those parts for my year vehicle because they were defective, and "junk" so I had to purchase later model year parts. I currently have the old parts available for inspection.

7 Brake Light problem

The rear brake lights have failed 6 times. Nlm.
