The contact owns a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the steering wheel locked and could not be turned. The wheel finally loosened after he moved it a couple of times. He also heard a clicking sound coming from the steering column. The vehicle has not been inspected. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage was 70,466 and failure mileage was 70,000.
This has been happening since the beginning of purchase. When I'm stopped and beginning a turn with the steering wheel, the wheel will make a grind and/or squeaking noise. I've notified the dealership when I've taken it in for repair, but apparantly, it never happens when it's there at the shop. The first time I reported it, they oiled the steering column, that was all, and; the noise continued.
When a right turn is made the steering column makes a sound like the horn is blowing. First reported in 2001 while car was under warranty and dealer said he couldn't reproduce it. Reported it 3 more times and dealer said he couldn't hear it. Dealer claimed he would not disassemble steering column because, if no problem could be found, Chrysler would not reimburse them for this labor intensive work. Problem has gotten progressively worse, particularly when air temp is above 85 degrees.
