1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2019

When traveling at 75mph or just making a slow turn at an intersection it shuts off. I have seen recalls on other 2004 Jeeps but not this VIN # it is dangerous and deadly. It does not happen all the time and the weather conditions make no difference. There should be a recall on all 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee's.

2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

The vehicle stalls . Shuts off when driving it runs like a dream and out of no where it shuts off.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2017

Without warning my Jeeps engine will shut off. It doesn't matter if it is while stopped or driving it will shut off and not turn back on until about 10 minutes later. When it has shut off it will still turn over and I have power to everything I need but it will not fire up. This happened first on a sunny morning driving in town. I towed it back to my house and could not get any codes. It fired up and I thought it was fine so I kept driving it. At this point about ten minutes down the road in the middle of traffic and while cruising along a busy road it shut off, I had power and the ability to steer but no power steering. Luckily I had a driveway to pull into and I coasted into it. This happens without warning. At this point I have my Jeep at the dealer in modesto CA for a diagnostic and they have told me that I need to replace the computer and the wiring harness for 1400 dollars and then they will see if that fixes the problem. Not a guarantee it will fix the problem. This is unacceptable to me as I cannot spend this type of money with the hope that whatever other problem there might be will be more affordable or easier to diagnose. This has to be a problem that is inherent with the Jeep itself and a manufacture defect. Not only do I not believe this is my fault as a user of the vehicle but I believe that this has caused an unsafe operating condition and I could have been seriously injured if this had happened on another road such as, a dirt road, mountain road, winding road, in icy or rainy conditions, or on the highway. This has also caused me to not be able to sell this car for any reasonable price, and the price for repair is over a quarter of the blue book of the car. Overall I do not feel safe with this vehicle for the intended purpose it was made for and this needs to be investigated before someone gets killed. Thank you.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

Car started stalling when driving on freeway and engine shut down. This is extremely dangerous. My garage tried all kind of solutions without success as there are no codes showing. There are numerous posting of same incidents on the Jeep forums on the internet. I called the hotline of the NHTSA and spoke to a lady who advised me she had the same problem and got rid of the car immediately!.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2009

Purchased in 2008 with 52,000 miles on it. Noise emanating from under dash, seemed like a vacuum unit loosing vacuum and then the creaking or closing of a door constantly after engine shutdown. This continued until it began putting hot air out of the passenger side with cold air out of the drivers side. Then the fan stopped working altogether. Inspected the wiring to the motor and found it to be overheated and melted at the plug. Purchased a wiring repair kit from Chrysler and was told that this was a "common problem" with Jeeps! now I have no heat whatsoever, but the blower (fan) does work. 2004 Jeep gc limited air conditioning provides no heat with heat selected. This provides no defrosting for windshield. The fan relay precipitated this problem. Fan resistor wiring plug appeared overheated and melted and blew the system fuse 40 amp rated. The fan resistor was replaced at $100. 00 through local parts supplier, Chrysler wanted $300. 00 for the same part! this problem appears to be systemic with Chrysler Jeep products. . . And I believe that they know they have a problem, why else would they offer a repair kit for it the wiring and plug)? I have read of hundreds of folk's who have experienced no heat issues with a hefty repair price "offered" by Chrysler, when in fact their system has issues that they know causes failure in the air conditioning system of their products and have not offered a fix for it other than offering to fix it for an excess of $1000 per vehicle. They should be forced to make correction of a faulty system at the least, and not force customers to foot the bill for their faulty system. Customer confidence does not seem to be a concern for them without federal mandate.
