1 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2011

Latches/locks/linkages - the pop down did not show this category so I used other the door latches will not work due to failing inner plastic housing. All four doors are in some condition of cracking and failure. One latch will not work at all, thus the door cannot be opened from the inside of vehicle. It is a serious safety issue. There are many complaints on this issue that have been filed. Chrysler should immediately recall the vehicles and properly repair them.

2 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited - car is a good condition except for 3 of the 4 doors have handles casings that are cracked and the door handle is hanging off. The car is well maintained and garage kept. This started happening in the last year and has spread rapidly. All 3 doors have done it the same place and it has started with a crack and then grown into the pieces falling off and leaving the inner workings of the door fully exposed. The is a grave safety issue and a recall needs to be issued.

4 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2011

I have an 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and all 4 enterior door handles started with hairline cracks that have advanced into major cracks and pieces of the plastic missing where the enterior door handle is located. Recently, 2 days ago- the back passenger handle completely came off and now is inoperable. There is no way to exit the vehicle from the inside of that affected door. I am certain that all my door handles will eventually follow suit and I will have no operable doors in the vehicle. This is a safety issue and should be addressed as such. This is not cosmetic. All 4 enterior door handle panels need to be replaced. The door handles are not secure and will continue to crumble until they are not usable anymore. Since this is a known issue- when is Jeep going to start replacing their broken manufactured parts?.

5 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2011

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door handle broke.

6 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2011

Normal door use, door handles cracking then breaking. Worried about safety. Unable to exit door in an emergency. Would have to be let out. Nothing done to repair. Three out of the four are broken. Jeep will not recall or repair. Only way to exit vehicle is to be let out from exterior.

7 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2011

The door panels on our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee cracked around the door handles. The door handle broke and the rear door will not open, trapping the passengers in the rear seat.

8 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Door panel just behind front door latches cracks and obstructs latch movement, thereby impeding door operation. Even after plastic fully cracks, latch sometimes "catches" on pieces. Could be hazardous if immediate exit of vehicle was necessary.

9 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2011

Broken door latches. Safety issue.

10 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2011

All four interior door handle panels/attach points have craked and crummbled. Rear door handles are totaly off and inoperateble. Front are very loose and falling off. Unable to exit the vehicle from the inside and must use exterior door handles to open the doors.

11 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2011

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door handle trim completely shatters for no apparent reason. Door handles are inoperative from inside the vehicle. Every door handle has this same issue. Chrysler-Jeep officially denies any culpability, but will give a discount off of the $2,500 repair bill, so consumers must pay $1,000 for the manufacturing defect. Even extended warranties will not cover the issue. I hope to god no one ever desperately needs to get out of one of these death traps in an emergency.

12 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2011

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee rear drivers side latch handle broke while trying to exit the vehicle. After futher inspection, 2 more latches are experiencing stress fractures in plastic molding.

13 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

2005 jeed Grand Cherokee failure of interior door latch handles due to cracked plastic door panel which prevents operation of the door from the interior. This has occurred on 3 of 4 doors with the 4th door possibly failing in the near future. This is a severe safey issue preventing occupants from exiting the vehicle in an emergency. There are numerous reports on the internet. Although, internet reports are frequently unreliable, there are hundreds of postings discussing this condition. Further, at least one report indicates that Chrysler has agreed to replace the door panels for a $50 CO-pay; but my contact with Chrysler was not successful. This is a serious issue that merits consideration for a recall.

14 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was unable to exit the vehicle from the front driver side because the door handle was fractured. In order for the contact to exit the vehicle, the contact had to roll down the front driver side window and open the door by using the exterior door handle. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were unknown.

15 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2011

I have a Grand Cherokee 2005, I purchase used less then 5 months ago. The passenger door open handle frame started to brake up to a point that broke the frame. Went to the dealer where I purchase the told me that I need to replace the entire door panel which cost me over 600 dollars. The veichle has less then 60 thousand miles . . . But since pass the 6 years it is not cover under the warranty. I am afraid to buy another door panel pay 600 dollars and break again. I would like to Jeep to step up and help customers that like Jeep cars and have problems like this . . . After looking online I notice that I am not the only one. Please help.

16 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2011

I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and all my interior door handles are breaking,I have three small children and I am concerned they would not be able to get out of the vehicle if anything were to happen.

17 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

My vehicle has 40,000 miles, emaculate condition except for the door handles and their structures around them. The drivers door is barley exitable. Sometimes I have to roll the window down to get out. (how imbaressing, to be a top of the line, showroom quality; still ; vehicle). We bought it new in November 2004. Have been so happy with it until 2 months ago. The passenger and rear passenger handles are cracked as well. Please help me, I'm just sick about it.

18 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2011

Door handles faling off due to a suppliers defective plastic resin mix. In case of a fire or crash a passanger or driver might not be able to get out of the vehicle and die from this defect. This is a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited.

19 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2011

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (5. 7l): interior plastic holding door handles has been cracked for quite some time and now they are broken. I am the sole owner of the vehicle (I'm single, no kids) and my rear door handles have rarely ever been used, yet they are completely broken now. Apparently this is a very common trend among these 2005-2008 Jeep models and this is a serious safety issue as rear passengers are unable to exit the vehicle from the inside. The steps to repair a simple door handle and crack requires the entire panel to be replaced, at $400+ each. These dealer replacement parts are on national back-order due to the extreme amount of cases with this.

20 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2011

I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my door handles are breaking off on the inside. I do not have children so they are not abused in any way. The material is a cheap plastic and the handles are barely hanging on both front driver and passenger doors. This is a safety hazard that needs to be addressed. I have also seen several other complaints on youtube from other Jeep owners with same situation. I also work for aaa roadside and have seen several instances where they have to be towed for electrical fires. This makes me very nervous and this matter needs to be addressed. There are also videos on youtube with Jeep fires as well to back it up. Any kind of recall would be greatly appreciated as these two scenarios are a serious and life threatning combination. Thanks.

21 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2011

1. Normal use of interior driver side door latch. 2. Casing around interior door latch handle broken 3. Entire door panel must be replaced. Door panel for this model on backorder. Existing broken part is available.

22 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2011

I currently own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and approximately September of last year I observed the front passenger interior door housing to be cracked and loose. I was bewildered how this happened. In April of this year my seven year old daughter was in the rear seat behind the driver seat. I stopped the vehicle and exited. I was waiting for my daughter to come out and she began to bang on the glass in a panic. I opened the door from the outside and she was crying and told me she couldnt get out that the interior handle was broken. I looked at the handle and discovered the housing to be completely broken apart like the front passenger one, but the rear handle was just dagling and is inoperable. It was at this time I began to research this issue to see if it is a problem with other Jeep owners. Sure enough it is a problem with hundreds of Jeep owners, and my research should that there are 65 complaints filed under latches/locks/linkages; 29 complaints under structure: body: door; and 10 complaints under latches /locks/linkages:door:latch, not counting other site complaints when you conduct a google search. I went to a local Jeep dealer who informed me that my warranty is up and they do not have any knowledge of any recalls. I am concerned as if two handles are broke, it is a matter of time the other two will also break. I also find this to be a serious!!!, safety issue as if there is an emergency, how will a child exit my rear seat if they are sitting behind the driver and if the handle breaks on the otherside there is no getting out from within the vehicle. This of course can result in the death of a passenger. I hope your agency can assist me with this problem in getting these handles replaced before the unthinkable happens. Thank you in advance.

23 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2011

3 out of 4 door handles have developed cracks on the plastic door panel in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. One of the doors is no longer operational without rolling down the window and pulling the outside door handle. This is clearly a design defect from faulty plastic attachments. If there was an accident the passenger may not be able to quickly exit the vehicle, especially if the electric windows no longer functioned. Chrysler needs to fix this.

24 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Driver's door latch is loose because of the plastic part is broke off, and it can come off anytime. Other two doors have cracks around the latches, starting to have the same problem. There is not thing can be done except replace the parts which is very expensive. This is the defective issue with the plastic that surrounded the door latches. It is a safety issue.

25 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

The inside door handle on my Jeep has broken off and it's almost impossible to open the door from the inside. I've read many complaints about online and it's only a matter of time before all 4 door handles break. I'm very concerned that in the event of an accident, I, my wife, or kids, won't be able to exit the vehicle. If this is not an isolated incident I think Chrysler should replace all these defective door panels before it turns into a Toyota gas pedal situation.

26 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2011

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the inside door panels are a hard plastic one piece door panel. The plastic that is behind the door handles is broken and cracked and I am very much concerned about the safety of being able to exit the vehicle in an emergency or even during normal circumstances. I have been told that Jeep refused to do a recall and the replacements are very expensive. My vehicle only has 61,000 miles and again this is something that is wide spread in this model with other owners and a recall should be done.

27 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

Over the past 2 years all 4 of my interior door handles are broken on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I only have passengers in my vehicle one day a week at the most. This is not a warranty issue, but a supplier's defective plastic resin mix. The entire door panel must be replaced not just the handle.

28 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2011

I have 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The problem is that 3 of the 4 inside door handles are broken. The plastic that holds the handle in place is very thin cheep plastic that cracks and breaks there are holes is some of them and on the driver door the latch is completely broken. This can very easily become a life threating issue if there was a fire and some one could not get out of the car. If you look on line you can find that is a very common problem with the 05 models. . 29 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2011

I own two 2005 Jeep grand cherroke limited, the interior door panels where the door handles attached are falling apart. The platsic which the handle attaches to is cracked and caused the door handle to be none usable.

30 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I just hit 50,000 miles, and it is sporadic at best that I have passengers in the rear. I have kept my vehicle in immaculate condition. However, both of my rear door handles are completely broken. I have to open the doors from the outside. My front two door handles are cracked with pieces missing but still operational for the moment, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. If I were in an accident and rendered unconscious my rear passengers have no way of exiting the vehicle in case of fire or other event would require a quick exit. This is absolutely a safety hazard due to a manufacturer defect.

32 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2011

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee - all 4 plastic door handles have broken off - plastic falling apart and into inside of door - the only way to get out is to open from the outside. Very dangerous if you are unable to get out of vehicle - I have tried to gorilla glue them back together and they just keep crumbling.

33 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2011

The interior door handles have broken off or are about to break off in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited hemi. There is a common manufacturers material defect, as the door handle "pocket" is made out a brittle plastic that shatters under normal use. This is dangerous because in an emergency, one would not be able to exit the vehicle because the interior dorr handle does not work. You have to open the power window and open the door from the outside, obviously this is unacceptable and needs to be addressed by Chrysler/Jeep.

34 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2011

The door panels on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited are breaking, and beginning to fall apart. I'm afraid if myself and family was hit in the door in an accident, pieces from the door could hurt one of us. I have talked with chryler about this problem, but they turned us down. Said they would need to have more info from more people. Chrysler just doesnt want to stand behind there product. I have a case # 20756604 case manager is named shawn xt 66071. I hope you can help with this problem.
