The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the rear doors failed to open from inside the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact also received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), but the part was not available for an extended period of time. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available. Parts distribution disconnect.
Interior door handles are cracked and starting to break. Contacted Jeep and they indicated that it is acknowledged as a weak component and that in some instances has been replaced. However, because of the age of my car, they refused to replace it as a warranty item. I emphasized on the safety aspect of passengers being trapped inside my car but they just indicated that there is nothing that they can do about it.
Just concerned about the interior door handles breaking. The front 2 are both cracked and pieces falling out leading to the door handles failing if emergency exit required.
I just recently purchased a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee for over $14,000. Within the first month before I have even made my first payment 3 of the 4 interior door handles have broken. I went back to the dealer and was told this is an issue that has to be taken up with the manufacturer. After coming home and doing research on the internet I have seen endless complaints of this happening, but yet nothing has been done to correct this safety hazard by Chrysler. Imagine for a moment your in an accident and are unable to open your car door to free yourself, or even worse your child. I cannot imagine this is an issue that Chrysler would not take care of. For all three handles to break at once is unbeivable and for Chrysler to feel they do not owe the consumer a recall to rectify this situation is mind boggling. I personally have called and voiced my opinion and was told to fix it myself. Believe me I will be going to my lawyer in the morning to see what needs to be done to file a class action suit against Chrysler and to also have documentation that I have voiced my concern about this safety hazard to no avail.
Door handles on both front driver and passenger sides have cracked and if these break, have no way to exit the vehicle. This seems to be a safety issue and Jeep will not honor it.
All 4 interior door handles are broken. One can no longer be opened from the inside. The other 3 are dangling and are about to break.
All door handles inside vehicle are broke. You cannot open the vehicle unless you roll window down and open door from the outside. This is a safety issue. If there is no power to vehicle to roll window down, you will be stuck in the vehicle. In an emergency situation, you will not be able to exit vehicle. Several complaints from 2003-2008 filed about same issue from multiple models. A recall needs to be issued.
Interior passenger door handle broke off - within one week's time - noticed all remaining doorhandles were cracking and will break off shortly. No excessive wear and tear has caused this - shows defective parts due to the fact that all have become cracked/broken at the same time. Two of the door handles get very little use, so it is not due to excessive or abusive use. This is a safety hazard - in case of an accident, my son would be unable to exit the back of the vehicle due to broken handles!!!!.
Driver's door interior handle housing broken rendering door handle inoperative. Cannot open door in normal operation and is a hazard in an emergency. Jeep is unwilling to fix defective parts and states that the entire door panel has to be replaced at a cost over $700/ea. , but the parts are on national backorder. Doing a quick search brings up numerous complaints about the same problem with no clear solution. I am now concerned that the other doors will fail soon.
Passenger rear door interior door handle has broken. There was no abuse, the interior door handle was opened by an adult and then while opening the door from the inside, the interior door handle broke due to just opening the door. I have researched this on many blogs and many other Jeep Grand Cherokee owners are experiencing this same problem. The interior door handle area is too weak to handle the stress of casual openings.
Inside door handles are all broken and falling off . One back door will not open from the inside or the outside. The area behind the door handle is broken plastic that could very likely cause a bad cut on a persons hand. I have photos I can e-mail to you. Vehicle is a 2006 Jeep cherokee with around only 20k miles. Updated ivoq 12/29/10.
Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door panels.
1. No events leading up to failure. Normal use . . . . And way less use than normal on some interior door handles. 2. Interior door handles crack, plastic breaks, handles go limp, handles fall off. 3. Called Chrysler. Looked for recall notices figuring this is major if people can't get out of a vehicle in an emergency. Nothing done to correct the failure. Can't find parts to replace missing and broken handles. Chrysler wants around 500 dollars per each door handle!!!!!!! with 12,000 mile guarantee only (3 months).
3 of 4 door panels with door handle to get out of vehicle has broken in same place. Driver has to get out of car to open the 3 doors. This is a safety issue because no one can get out of the car execpt the driver. This is caused most likely due to the thin plastic holding the door mechanism. Also if company (Jeep) did not use uv protected plastic the sun and hi temperatures in texas may have contributed to the engineering flaw. The plastic piece holds the entire handle in the door and should have used a stifner to supprot it properly. As is if accident was to happen passengers would be stuck in vehicle.
