I recently bought my 2006 Grand Cherokee limited and a few times in the past week I have been driving through a parking lot or pulling into a driveway and the Jeep completely dies. I have had my Jeep inspected I recently bought my 2006 Grand Cherokee limited and a few times in the past week I have been driving through a parking lot or pulling into a driveway and the Jeep completely dies, no steering or brakes. When you put it into neutral it will restart as if nothing ever happened. I have had my Jeep inspected and there are no codes or anything to find specifically. The other issue I am having is that when I am driving at highway speeds the dash lights, air, and radio go out and flicker. You can't see your speed and the gauges go bizerk. I did some research and found many testimonials which I have attached to this complaint of people having the same issue. One women was even going through an intersection making a left hand turn and hers died and she lost steering and ended up going into oncoming traffic. This is not ok people! we need to hold Chrysler/Dodge accountable for the building of the car. Insurance companies need to know about this. And most. . . . A class action lawsuit needs to be filed if there already hasn't been. You don't just make vehicles and when it has problems to this extent continue allowing people with families to drive your vehicles with no pinpoint issue available to fix. Families are spending thousands of dollars replacing what "could" be wrong and still not fixing the issue or getting any help from the people who built the issue. Everywhere I look and everyone I contact say these issues could be a number of things but yet Chrysler has failed to have a system that spits out codes directly pointing out the issue in turn creating a greater safety issue on the roads. Who knows, maybe the next Jeep that dies will take out someone you love.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

I got in a head on collision on July 11 in the city of paramount . I was at a red light making a left as soon as it turn green I went into motion lost control making a wide left turn and went into the side walk. I hit a cement trash can and a cement wall as well none of my air bags came out . Both insurance and the body shop where the Jeep is now stated that it was odd the air bags didn't come out . They stated that the hit was big and the bags should have came out . I hit front on my whole front end was damaged bumper, lights , grill . I hit my face in the steering wheel causing my lip to bust open and I hit my head as well in the top left side handle. My insurance noted that the vehicle is a total loss due to frame damage . I didn't go to the hospital because of the max capacity so I've been taking over the counter pills for my back , head and shoulder pain I also been seen a naturalist for my muscle spasms.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2015

I bought my vehical used in June. (2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 160,000 miles) I took it back to dealer where they told me the battery had issues and they "fixed" the problem. I'd be driving and if I came to a stop I would lose all power and my engine would turn off. At a drive through, it would die, at a stop light, die. In October my issues started up again. Now the same things are happening but every light on the dash lights up, flashes/flutter/flickers, headlights shut off, radio shuts off, hvac system shuts off, but engine will run for about 20min then I lose all power where ever I am, I'll be driving down the highway going 55mph and the engine shuts off. Pulling into the store engine shuts off. On my way to work engine just shut off while going down the highway. Coasted as far as I could to get to a safe place to stop. Now it won't start again.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

Received the recall notice and contacted porterville Chrysler. Despite the recall notice about increased risk of occupant injury as well as the potential to cause a collision without warning, they said they had no parts to replace the ones causing the issue, and they had no idea when they would. They claim to have had parts on order for over a year but none have been received and that they could not help me out by complying with the recall notice.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

I was driving to work down an incline/hill on 9/2, there was traffic ahead, the engine shut off and the breaks locked. I pulled the e-break and swerved off the side of the road, luckily without any crash. I was able to restart the vehicle but had a tow truck tow it to my local mechanic who verified there was no problem with the breaks, and notified me of the recall p41 on the ignition switch which can cause the engine to shut off and power steering and breaks to lock while driving. The Jeep dealership told me not only are the parts not available but they don't know when they will be available and they can't diagnose this as the problem without replicating the problem. This is a known issue so it is unclear to me why the issue would have to be replicated. I have a baby and do not want to drive this car, as recommended by Jeep customer service and the dealership, and risk accident to myself or others until the part is in and fixed. I can't believe Jeep would ask me to continue driving this vehicle not only knowing there is a risk but an actual problem. I think it's fair that Jeep provide me with a safe alternative form of transportation in the meantime.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

Vehicle has stalled while in drive at various speeds, in reverse or idling at a stop. This issue has been ongoing for over 2 years - has been brought to the dealership; was never told there was a recall on the ignition switch until I brought recently to midas for the above issues. They advised the engine shuts off due to the ignition switch being faulty. There has also been occasions that the abs seems to engage while in drive, typically occurs when turning. Unknown if this is associated with the faulty ignition switch. Was told by Chrysler that the recalled part would be available as of September 11, 2015 - it is still not available. This vehicle is unsafe to drive.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

I bought my 06 Jeep in March of 2015 and had problems with it ever since. First incident happend right after I bought car. Pulled in to mcdonalds drive through and steering wheel locked up on me and dashboard lights lite up all of them. Scared the crap out of me. Same things happened at least 6 other times where the steering wheel would lock up and truck would shut off. I was sitting at a stop light when the dashboard lights lit up and then truck died. Truck will appear to be racing at times when I barly hit gas. I had my 5 year old granddaught with me and the truck shut off while I was driving going about 45 miles. I never was so scared in my life. All I could image was me and my precious granddaughter dying. I was so scared, I could not drive for a day or two to settle my nerves. Please help !!!!!. I think that Chrysler needs to pay for rentals till issue is fixed or have trucks replaced before someone dies. !!!!!!!.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

The dash lights started flickering, then the brakes locked up and the Jeep just lost power and turned off. This was the first time that the Jeep's brakes locked up and lost power and this is enough to cause alarm and resulted with this complaint. I will not wait for a second time that the vehicle's brakes lock up and turns itself off at a more dangerous highway situation on a busy traffic and certainly not putting my family at this type of risk which is obviously a manufacturer's defect. James, a customer service representative from Jeep that I have spoken to advised that Chrysler could possibly issue a recall if enough number of complaints were received from NHTSA. Am I really supposed to wait until my family gets injured before something gets done with this known issue? the dash lights/gauges issue has been ongoing and Jeep had been contacted a few years back to no avail. I also advised james (Jeep rep) about all four handles breaking at the same time. I had to open the door from the outside to let my daughter and her friend get out of the backseat. These handles should not break at all due to it's normal use and purpose. I request your department to please investigate this obvious safety issue, and avoid any injuries that this defect could cause. Thank you.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2013

While driving Jeep lost all power this has happened 4 times I took it back to dealer but they didn't find any thing this last time it was in a rear end accident so Chrysler took it back to investigate the problem the dealer has had for a total of over 9 weeks and still don't have a answer for it I don't know what to do know can you help.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

My pregnant wife has had this issue before with the car and we took it to the dealership without anyone being able to fix it. While driving between 15-60 mph the car completely shuts down. No power steering, brakes, or electrical. You have to throw it in neutral and start it back up. This has to be an electrical issue as other quirky things have been happening as well such as the headlights will flicker on and off and the volume and stations selectors on the steerwheel often do not work properly. This is an issue that Jeep needs to identify and fix. Very scary to be going 50-60 mph and lose control of your car going down the highway. Over the past two days this has happened three times. I have done research online as well and there are plenty of other Jeep owners that have this same issue. Jeep needs to have a recall for this issue. I am shocked that this has not happened yet.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

I was driving on a busy road at night approaching a 4 way traffic light intersection. I was going approximately 35-40 mph and the road conditions were dry. Suddenly the electric, lights, gauges, steering and braking system in my Jeep began flickering and spasming like my Jeeps entire electric system was having seizures and was switching power on and off. To the cars ahead of me it looked like I was flashing my lights and the cars behind me as if I was turning my lights on and off rapidly. I pulled off the road into a parking lot and my Jeep continued to spasm and flicker on and off. I turned my vehicle off and let it sit in hopes that this issue was a one time electrical glitch and also because I couldn't safely drive it in this condition. I eventually started my vehicle again and began to drive thinking it was alright. Within minutes it began doing the same thing again. My vehicle has continued to randomly exhibit this behavior along with additionally all the gauge lights and sounds blinking and chiming for several minutes at a time. I never know when it is going to happen but when it does it is extremely dangerous and scary to be in the vehicle. I only have my ignition key on the key ring but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I have noticed that my ignition switch is extremely sensitive even when initially starting the vehicle.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle stalled while turning at an unknown speed. The failure occurred twice. During the first occasion, the vehicle stalled and crashed into a curb. The vehicle was able to be restarted. In addition, while making a turn, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle crashed into a guardrail. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) and stated that the remedy was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2011

While entering on ramp for highway Jeep shuts off. . . No more control since no power. Hit the guard rail. This stalling happen on many occasions while driving or in park. With passengers in vehicle very scary. Have spent more than $4000 @ dealer @ & manufacturer involved. With no resolution. . . But the stress & the dissatisfaction in the american product I'd like to buy that can't be fixed. I'm convinced I'll probably never buy american again. Very disappointed on how Jeep corporate handled the issue & left me with vehicle with these problems & told me case closed. . . Trade it in.

24 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2011

I initially purchased this Jeep at 45,000 miles. It now has 98,000 miles. This issue has now happened at least 5 times in this time span. The first few times I thought it may be just a coincidence but now it is starting to scare me that there could be an issue. Because it can not be replicated at the mechanic,s no one can pinpoint what the problem could be. The Jeep will just die spontaneously. There is no warning that it is coming. Luckily I have always been going slow through a parking lot with no other cars in my way. I am able to control the car to a stop and then restart it. This past week I became more nervous however as it happened while I was making a left turn from a major street on to a residential street. I was able to control the car to the side of the residential road while turning however, if there had been cars on the steet I was making the left too or I had not given more time for the cars coming at me during the turn this could have equaled a major accident. I am seeing through my research that I am not the only one experiencing this.

25 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2011

I was traveling to my daughters when the Jeep suddenly veered to the left. Crossed center line, hit guard rail and rolled three times down the highway. Luckily no cars were coming. My front drivers side fire was wedged in the guard rail. I was upside down and managed to undo my seat belt and crawl out back broken window. The man behind me wrote a letter telling me how he was just following me and I just lost control, he's the one who called 911 and said he was checking for "survivors". This was a sunny June morning, nothing on the road. Its like the Jeep had a mind of its own. After surgery on my shoulder and trying to get back to work, I was forced to go on disability. I wish I would have known about this recall years ago. My life has changed because of it. The Jeep was a total loss of course. This accident happened about 10 miles west of iron river, mi on us-2. This whole thing has changed my life forever.

26 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2010

Failure Date: 05/08/2010

Driving 65 miles per hour on freeway. Engine stalled, and front dash lights went out. Power steering was off and brakes were off as well. Was able to maintain control of the vehicle and make my way to the shoulder. Once stopped, started up without an issue.

28 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that her vehicle has been serviced four different times because the power steering continues to shutter. On July 20, 2007, the steering gear was replaced. She was informed by another Jeep dealer that the shuttering can cause the air bag to deploy at any time. The contact does not drive the vehicle because the failure has not been corrected. The speed was unknown. The current mileage was 11,785 and failure mileage was 5,558.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2007

Purchased the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (4. 7l) new from dealership. It stalls unexpectedly. Usually at low speeds. Most of the time while turning. It does it probably once every two or three months, which makes it next to impossible to duplicate at the dealership. In addition, no codes are ever tripped, leaving no proof of an existing problem. We have taken it to the dealership on three separate occasions over the years while it was still under warranty, however, the dealerships maintained that if they could not duplicate the problem, they could not fix the problem, leaving it unresolved. The Jeep now has over 100k on it (out of warranty) and it continues to stall. What I find odd, is that this particular problem was happening to thousands of people with Jeeps like mine over the years, but on the three separate occasions we took it into the dealership, they acted like they had never heard of the problem. How is this possible?.
