Three problems related to adaptive cruise control have been reported for the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee based on all problems reported for the 2015 Grand Cherokee.
On the highway my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel briefly stalled and the check engine light came on. I then lost all power and could only maintain a speed of 45mph in a 70mph speed limit highway. I turned on my flashers and could not get off the road due to construction and jersey barriers for several miles. When I had the opportunity I pulled off the side of the road and called to have my vehicle towed to a service facility. I was informed by the mechanic that scanned my car for trouble codes, a p0336-00 was set in my pcm. The mechanic informed me that I would have to take the vehicle to a Jeep Chrysler dealer. This is apparently a known issue with 2014 to 2018 Jeep grad cherokees equipped with the 3. 0l diesel engine including ram 1500s of the same vintage with the same diesel engine installed. The specific problem is that the crank shaft tone wheel is not read by the crankshaft position sensor because of degradation to the tone wheel which is connected to the crankshaft. I have complied with all safety and emission recalls. Related: rc-rw68-20 safety recall w68 transport canada 2020-371 loss of crankshaft position. Requires the replacement of the tone wheel. Issued 02/11/2021. Rc-rw58-20 safety recall w68 transport canada 2020-371 loss of crankshaft position. Requires pcm software update for loss of crankshaft position. In lieu of the tone wheel failing, the computer uses the camshaft position sensor. This is only designed to not disable the car completely but allow the driver to pull of the road. P0335-00 or p0336-00 wil be set and a check engine light will illuminate. My vehicle was not included in the nthsa safety recall and it should have been.
Valve lifter failure at 93,000 miles. $2,700 repair. Is apparently a very common problem with the 3. 6l pentastar engine. Adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning system front sensor failed at 56,000 miles, failed again at 76,000 miles and failed a third time at 95,000 miles. First two failures were replaced under warranty, third failure happened 1 week after warranty expiration from second replacement. Cost is too expensive to repair ($3,000 for new sensor) and requires that safety feature be turned off as sensor will perceive increases in road elevation (hills) as another vehicle and apply the brakes.
We were driving and we heard a chime and nothing showed on the display panel. Then we went thru the displays and saw a message regarding the acc something about manual something. Then we lost power. Since we were on the highway we turned the truck off and started it again to potentially reset. We drove a couple blocks to exit the highway and lost power again. The we got out of the vehicle and smelled smoke. We peaked under the hood and saw fire. We all got out, grabbed our stuff and then the fire spread and engulfed the truck. Total loss.
