1 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2024

High beams are not activating when enabled from the steering column. Both automatic and manual switches for the vehicles high beams do not enable the lighting in front of the car. The odometer also does not signal the high beams are active in this scenario as well.

2 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2022

While driving all headlights suddenly went out. This has happened a few times now while waiting for our service appointment. It has occurred in both high and low beam configurations. The lights have failed when the dash switch is in the auto or in the on positions. The vehicle is definitely available for inspection, however it is currently being serviced for this defect. Failure of all forward-facing lights could be fatal at speed. We were in our driveway and on small town streets when it has occurred, but next time? we showed the service representative a video of the failure recorded 09/21/2022 in our driveway, high beams on and switch in auto position when all lights failed. The video is available to NHTSA if requested. Upload formats, below, don't include the mov (iphone video) format. The lights failed without visible warnings, messages, or symptoms. I did not check for obdii codes.

3 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2022

The license plate led lights went out. Pulled over by trooper to get them replaced, as they are a safety concern for troopers to identify the license plate number. After a few trips to a couple auto parts store, I learned that none of them carry lights. One of the parts stores representative said I would need to get in touch with Jeep. Jeep confirmed, that they need to replace the wiring harness and lights for this model year which is 2015. I looked online and it seems to affect model years 2014-2019. Jeep wants to charge nearly 200. 00 to fix the issue. If the lights are required for safety concerns and help with backup camera to make it more visible in the dark, then this should be a concern to owners of Jeep Grand Cherokee model. There are no warning lights to let you know the lights are out until you get pulled over and ticketed by the police or you go to get the vehicle inspected and told you need a costly repair. If Jeep knows about this defect, they should be doing a recall for the issue.

6 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2019

My family (1 year old, 4 year old, dog, wife, and I) were driving from nc to NY. We stopped outside of erie so I could get some food and my wife could walk the dog. For a few minutes she told by the car with the door open walking the dog while I got food. We got back in the car and she said something smelled funny. I looked around and saw nothing so we headed back on I-90. As soon as we got on the highway we saw smoke and pulled off immediately. We got the kids and dog out away from the Jeep and I went back to see what was going on. I noticed now the back seat was smoking and realized it was the pillow that my wife had put by her feet. In the little amount of time that the pillow was down there with the door open it caught the pillow on fire which then caught the dogs bed on fire. I replaced the light and checked it and noticed within seconds it get burning hot and there is no cover or protection from this bulb at all.
