1 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2026

On January 3, 2026, I test drove a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee (VIN [xxx] ) from a franchised Jeep dealership in lewiston, idaho. After the test drive, the vehicle was placed on a lift and it was discovered that the front driver-side lower ball joint was missing a retaining bolt, allowing separation from the lower control arm. This condition created an immediate risk of suspension failure and loss of control while driving on public roads. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2025

The ptu (transfer case) is not working. It started as more of a transmission issue. I would be driving at times and my transmission would not shift up. I had to manually shift my car to get it into gear. Now, it lead to knocking noises when I turn my steering wheel.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2025

Driving at approximately 20 mph on a busy highway, when accelerated to do a lane change, my vehicle did an extremely aggressive jolt and I can hear my engine struggling. I managed to move over lanes to the closest center divider and when I tried to put my car on "park" it did not shift, it was stuck on drive. I had to apply the emergency foot break and turn off the vehicle. I quickly turned it back on and then I was able to shift to park. As I was being escorted by chp to the right divider, the vehicle would jolt at the touch of the accelerator. I was unable to accelerate and the mechanic is saying my transmission gave out. No prior symptoms, no warning of any issues. The check engine light came on after the first jolt. The vehicle is currently in the mechanic shop. I'm being told that I need a new transmission.

The failure mileage was 140,000.

5 Suspension problem

The vehicle, 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was parked (not running & no occupants) under our car port. An extremely loud pop/explosion was heard and my spouse saw the Jeep rocking from side to side (no one was near it). I went to move it into our garage and the service air suspension system immediately warning came on. The rear end of the vehicle is very low with the wheel wells barely above the low profile tires.
