I am a former transmission calibration engineer at stellantis, so I know what I'm talking about. I experienced an engine stall event while coasting down in speed. I was in town, driving about 30 mph, and coasting (0% pedal). I lightly applied the brakes and while the vehicle was still in motion (coasting) the engine stalled. The information cluster displayed a message that said "put the vehicle in park and restart the engine. " I coasted around a corner, came to a stop, put the transmission in park, and restarted the engine. No mil or codes were set. I have a scan tool and confirmed later that no codes were set. I'm fairly certain the engine was in dfso (decel fuel shutoff) when the issue occurred as the conditions were all correct for dfso (engine was in normal operating temperature range, gear was 5th or 6th when coasting was initiated, and pedal was 0% for several seconds before the issue occurred). Loss of propulsion is an obvious safety concern as I lost control of the vehicle.
This is the third time that my Jeep has completely shut off with no warning and in the middle of traffic. I am unable to turn on any hazard lights. The power goes completely out, and I am unable to put the car in neutral or anything to be safe. I have reported this issue in the past. The dealership is unable to figure out what is wrong and I keep trying to get this resolved before it turns out tragically. Please help me before I loss my life in this vehicle.
Issue 1: after several recalls - the battery issue still remains. Often not kicking in and leaving a power deficit (loss of motive power). The gap is short, but when low speed on battery and you push the accellerator to merge/turn, etc. And there is a delay - it can cause an accident. Issue 2: the investigation of alerts of pedestrians - happens intermittently. There has never been a fix. Issue 3: the tire pressure monitoring system fails to read intermittently - a warning on the dash indicates it is not working and to get it checked. Dealership has noted problem, but never fixed. Still occurs 3+ years. Issue 4: radio/infotainment system blanks out or becomes unresponsive. When relying on this device for navigation, that becomes a problem.
While driving 30mph in town, the vehicle shut off. The engine quit, lost power steering, dash message said, “press brake and push button to start. ” conditions were: in e-save mode, the gas engine was running, battery level was <1%. We came to a stop, pushed the start button, the vehicle started and drove normally. The passenger recorded most of this on video. We did complete the related recall last November.
The vehicle has experienced repeated electrical failures. On multiple occasions the vehicle would not start and lost all electrical power. The main electrical system appears to fail suddenly, causing the vehicle to become inoperable. The vehicle has been to the dealership multiple times for the same issue and was out of service for extended periods. This is a serious safety concern because the vehicle can completely shut down without warning.
On January 23, while driving, the vehicle suddenly shut down and stopped working without warning. I attempted to restart the vehicle several times, but it would not start. Smoke was coming from the engine area, and the vehicle was completely disabled on the road. I was stranded on the roadside until approximately 11:30 pm, waiting for a tow truck to arrive. The vehicle had to be towed and taken to the dealership. The dealership later confirmed that the engine wiring harness had burned and failed. The failed component is currently at the dealership and is available for inspection. This sudden shutdown created a serious safety risk to me and other drivers due to loss of power while driving. The issue was not caused by misuse or modifications. The vehicle has since been inspected by the dealership and a manufacturer (Chrysler) representative.
Turned on the car to the find the check engine light was on. Drive 5 minutes to my son’s school to pick him up. Turned the car off, then back on to see if maybe the check engine light would go off. Instead the check engine light, battery light and service hybrid charging system errors appeared on the dash. The car would not turn off and I was unable to put it in gear at all. It left me stranded. I called a tow truck and about 10 min before they were set to arrive I tried turning it off and on again and it started like normal (check engine light still on) drove 5 min home and it did it again in my driveway. Happened again when my husband started it to take a look. This happened to us one other time about 3 months after we bought the car. We’ve only had it 9 months. Both recalls have been completed. This is unacceptable.
Was driving on a crowded interstate highway that runs through denver when my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe suddenly turned off. Luckily, there were no cars in the adjacent lane and I had enough forward momentum to get across that lane and onto the shoulder of the road. There were no warning lights or alarm sounds, the engine just turned off. After reaching the shoulder, I restarted the car and could drive it to a dealership. It is currently at the Jeep dealership undergoing diagnostics. This was an unbelievably dangerous event that could have resulted in a multiple car pile up with injuries or deaths (most likely mine or my wife’s) since we were in such heavy traffic at a speed of about 70 mph. We are the sole owners of the vehicle and have kept up to date on all recalls of which there have been several. We had one recall outstanding which was due to be addressed in a few days which dealt with a potential battery fire. Not sure how that would relate to this event. We have not had any similar event with this car in the roughly 28000 miles we’ve driven it. If the car needs to be inspected, that would be fine. I’d hate to have this happen to anyone else.
Lost power and stopped on the highway gas gauge was not accurate.
The vehicle has abruptly lost power and shut down while driving. This has happened while pulling out to cross traffic at intersections which have nearly caused an accident from the vehicle abruptly losing power in the middle of the intersection. The emergency braking system has also activated without any obstructions in front of the vehicle resulting in vehicles behind me nearly hitting me. The vehicle's four wheel drive system has also been inoperable with no parts available from Jeep to remedy this specific issue.
Yesterday, I had been traveling on the turnpike and was attempting to merge back on from a rest area when the Jeep entered "turtle" or "limp" mode without warning, indicating a failure of the hybrid system. The speed dropped instantly to 2mph and the engine kept revving, generating dark exhaust and a concerning smell (hot, different from regular vehicle exhaust smell). Eventually I was able to move back into the parking area and needed to be towed. I have yet to have it evaluated by a dealership as they are closed today. Following multiple previous hybrid system recalls since purchasing the vehicle oct 2022, I've experienced numerous malfunctions of the hybrid system (taking it to the dealership multiple times to be evaluated after the "wrench" service hybrid electric system warning showed) over the last 6 months. Each time I've been told a "software reset fixed it" by the dealership. The problems with this hybrid system have been increasing in severity. Currently two recalls are in place due to these hybrid system issues (remedy not available). This was a scary, dangerous experience and I have no confidence in stellantis resolving this issue.
Vehicle under recall for high voltage battery fire risk, no fix available, manufacturer instructs not to charge or park near structures.
I was driving home from work and all of a sudden I am pushing the gas pedal down but unable to go faster. I lost complete power. The car was in gas mode at the time of incident. I could not start the car or move the dial from park, neutral, etc. . . I had to get out of the car lock it, get back in and I was able to start and go straight to the dealership.
Three times in two days, the engine propulsion system malfunctioned. On two occassions I could not increase my initial speed above approximately 30 mph. On another instance, I had been driving above 30 mph, came to a stop, and could not resume speed above approximately 30 mph.
We've had the red lightening bolt with wrench warning light go off a dozen times since April 2025. 1st time we were setting in traffic after 100+ mile drive down the interstate. I it sounded like the transmission had dropped into part. My wife thought the car behind us had ran into us. I have had it to the dealer many times about this. They tell me the can't duplicate the red warning light going off so there's nothing they can do. I know I'm not the only one. I see post after post on forums about this problem. Hopefully the new recall will take care of the red lightening bolt (electronic throttle control system) warning light. It happening more often since the 1st. It just went off today 9/15/25. Was going slow and didn't loss of power but other times when running down hwy you definitely notice loss of power.
The vehicle experienced repeated propulsion loss and powertrain malfunction while driving, creating a serious safety risk. This defect has now been formally acknowledged by fca/stellantis through NHTSA recall 25v576 (filed on September 4, 2025). Prior to the recall, I raised these safety concerns through the ncds arbitration program, but my case was closed despite documentation of the defect. The arbitration program stated the matter was “resolved,” even though I had rejected the arbitrator’s decision and the case was procedurally closed without binding resolution. After the recall was issued, I requested that my case be reopened under ncds rule 20, which allows refiling when new or material evidence is presented. That request was denied, leaving me without a remedy despite the existence of an active recall for the exact defect I had reported. The safety issue remains ongoing. The vehicle has lost propulsion multiple times while in motion, creating risk of collision. Warning messages have appeared on the dashboard prior to failure, and the issue has been reproduced at service centers. This matter highlights both the safety hazard of the defect itself and a procedural concern: consumers may be denied meaningful remedies even after safety recalls are issued.
I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, which experienced a serious mechanical failure on [xxx], at approximately [xxx] cdt in detroit lakes, mn. While exiting a zips car wash at low speed, my vehicle experienced a sudden and complete loss of power and/or propulsion. I believe the engine shut down without warning, and the vehicle would not respond to throttle input or move forward. I attempted to restart the vehicle, but it remained unresponsive for several seconds. During this time, another vehicle behind me was unable to stop in time and rear-ended my Jeep, causing damage to the rear of the vehicle and my vehicle. This incident appears consistent with two known recalls affecting this model: • NHTSA recall 25v576 (September 2025) – hybrid control software defect causing unexpected engine shutdown and loss of propulsion • NHTSA recall 23v503 (June 2023) – engine shutdown and loss of drive power due to internal control module failure required info: • component/system failed: engine and/or propulsion system. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. • safety risk: the sudden loss of propulsion left me stalled when exiting the car wash with no ability to move, directly leading to a rear-end collision. My safety and the safety of the driver behind me were put at risk due to the unexpected failure. • reproduction of problem: the issue has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, but it aligns with known recall conditions. • inspection status: the vehicle has not yet been inspected by Jeep or insurance representatives, but I am initiating claims and service requests immediately. A police officer was present but it was on private property and no report was created. I have the officers card and number for follow up as needed. • warning lamps or symptoms: unknown information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On September 10th, 2025, at approximately 7:45am, I was driving my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe at 57 mph on the freeway during heavy traffic. The “service hybrid electrical system” warning appeared, and the vehicle immediately stalled and forced itself into emergency park while in motion. This sudden failure created a severe safety hazard for myself and surrounding drivers. I experienced an anxiety attack from the incident and had to call my husband for help. This is not the first time the vehicle has stalled, but it is the most dangerous occurrence to date. This vehicle is unsafe and poses a life-threatening risk on public roads.

This vehicle has had multiple recalls. Anytime that I call in to get serviced. I receive one of these responses from their service department: they can’t replicate the issue, if the lights that came on are no longer on they cannot tell what the problem was, or they fixed it. I’ve had multiple calls and service request with the dealership as well with stalantas and Chrysler capital. I have pictures of different lights that go off in the dashboard whether it’s the hybrid service whether it’s engine hot, whether it’s the driver assist not working, “vehicle ready to drive”while it’s been driving a while, other issues that I’ve had regarding the components in the vehicle the ac and heat not working properly where you can have it on heat and it doesn’t heat anything or you can have it on ac and it doesn’t cool anything. And then it fixes itself and it starts to work again a few days later. The center screen goes blank sometimes. The radio button on and off sometimes it does not turn on. Sometimes when in reverse the safety system will go off and abruptlystop the car when there is nothing behind it. Currently the vehicle is at the local dealership department in their service department because of a blown gasket, also a known recall per previous research. The only department to inspect the vehicle is jt‘s service department local Jeep Dodge ram dealership have placed numerous calls to manufacture, trying to get them to buy back vehicle.
Exhaust small in cabin. Exhaust manifolds leaking pulling exhaust into the cabin through the climate system. When the recirculation is turned on, then the smell is not present. When the recirculation is off then the exhaust smell is strong inside the cabin. The exhaust in the cabin is causing causing respiratory problems, fatigue, eye irritation and I am concerned of passing out when driving. I frequently have to turn on the recirculation button to keep the exhaust out of the cabin but in the winter time and in high humidity situations the window fog causing an additional safety issue. I am also forced to open the windows during this time causing excessive noise and temperature control issue. I called dealer months ago and they said not covered but now I learned should have been covered but now past the 60k mile limit.
Defroster and heat rarely work. On multiple occasions, the heater does not work and just blows cold air. It is not reliable to defrost the windows and blow hot air. Tested on August, 29th, September 5th, September 6th, September 10, September 11.
Was driving with the kids in the car, all of our safety was put at risk when the warning lamp came on and then the gear shift system malfunctioned. It said service hybrid system then went away. This is the third time this has happened. I had to pull over and got honked at by cars that had to stop to avoid hitting us. The problem has been confirmed by today's announcement over the impending recall for this exact issue. The component has not been inspected, I am scared to drive it to the dealer.
The car will cut off and loose power due to the battery issue it has been in the shop 5 or 6 times for this issue and some of the stays were over 30 days at a time they said they have no fix for the repair needed not to drive it but no one can make payments on a car and not drive it for months waiting on a repair. They refused to buy the car back or replace it with a new one.
While driving, the vehicle suddenly shuts down without any prior warning. When this happens, I lose steering and braking capabilities until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. The vehicle must then be towed to the service center, where they reset the fault codes in the computer system and return the vehicle to me. There are two recurring diagnostic trouble codes associated with this issue: digital crash input hcp code the manufacturer and dealership have stated they have no solution for this defect and have advised me to continue driving the vehicle despite the unresolved safety problem. This defect is extremely dangerous — I have been in several situations where I was nearly involved in an accident when the vehicle shut down during motion.
Total loss of power while driving I got a red wrench hybrid system warning light when driving at 45 mph. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe lost all power and a warning that told me to pull over when it was safe. The total loss of power almost cause an accident. I waiting a few minutes and the vehicle started up and I drove home. I am reluctant to drive the vehicle.
While driving the vehicle, several warning lights activated, the first being automatic emergency braking is disabled. The second warning light advised me to not turn the car off until I got to my destination. It further advised that I would not be able to shift gears. The vehicle began to slow down on its own until it came to a complete stop. I was in the middle of an intersection when this happened. The dashboard was displaying a message saying press brake and push button to start car. Nothing happened when I did that. I could not shift gears or get the vehicle to move at all. Even though, I was getting the message to push the button to start the vehicle, I believe the vehicle was actually on. I was stuck near the intersection for one hour with a tow truck on the way when I was finally able to turn the e vehicle off. When it turned back on, the check engine light was on and the vehicle was able to drive. It has now happened three times.
Driving vehicle and it lost all power. Warning light for service phev came on solid on dash. Switched to esave and was able to drive approx 2 blocks and vehicle lost power again in middle of road. Shifted to neutral, restarted and was able to side of road. Called tow company to deliver to dealer. Side note- vehicle was in dealer on 6/30 with flashing service phev light; dealer ran code and returned with dtc of b273c-00 (digital crash input). Dealer stated that vehicle is going into a “limp mode” due to 95b software update, and that there is not a fix, and other vehicles are at dealership unable to repair. When asked for advice what I should do, the response was “ do not take a long road trip”. I drove approx 60 miles since and the vehicle went into solid limp mode. Being evaluated at dealership currently.
Last week I was driving 70mph on the highway when suddenly I got the red wrench icon with the message "service hybrid electrical system" on the dashboard. After about 7 seconds I then got a "put foot on brake and press start" message on the screen - while still going 70mph on the highway. At that point the car died. I had no power - the accelerator pedal did nothing. Luckily, I was able to pull over to the shoulder and stop. Then I did what it said and pressed the brake + start button. The car came back to life, but I didn't have the full hybrid system - I only had gas - the car was not using any electrical power as the battery level remained constant and did not drop as I drove. I continued for another 20 minutes where I stopped for lunch. When I returned to the car it started up normally and continued to run normally after that. This is the 3rd of 4th time the red wrench icon with the service hybrid system warning coming up, but on the previous times the message went away after about 5 seconds and the car drove normally. This is the only time that it caused the car to completely die on my while on the highway. Apparently, this has been happening to a * of people after Jeep issued a software update to address the 95b recall last year. Many owners are now afraid to drive their Jeep 4xe for fear of it suddenly dying on the highway at high speeds.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? when driving down a busy road, the car completely stalled with loss of power steering, unable to accelerate or brake, power completely lost in car with all safety lights illuminated on the dashboard. Eventually brakes returned, able to stop car. Unable to restart and loss of power for windows. After several attempts, restarted car with warning lights still present- moved to side of road. Currently at dealer for inspection- stated that problem was "digital crash input code failure" and that there is not a fix for this at this time. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? car stalled with complete loss of control in the middle of traffic, while accelerating at approximately 15-25 mph. This could have caused an accident, but luckily did not. However, car was stalled in traffic for about 30 mins and unable to move car at all- blocking traffic on busy street. If happened on highway, could have been much worse and also had the potential to cause an accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the problem was confirmed by dealer, and said that there is "no fix". According to them, all recalls have been fixed in this vehicle prior to incident and should have fixed this problem by replacing the battery. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? vehicle has been inspected by both dealership service and Chrysler/ stellantis engineers. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? there was 1 warning light message about "ev system hybrid control" needs service, but disappeared after 30 seconds and this appeared about 1 week prior to incident.
I am writing because I am beyond frustrated with the treatment I’ve received from gwinnett Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (5054 u. S. 78, stone mountain, GA 30087 ). I have been a long?time Jeep customer, and I cannot believe everything that has been going on. This situation has become untenable, and I demand a resolution immediately. Back in may, I brought my Jeep in to have a hybrid electrical vehicle system issue addressed, and I paid for that service in full. In July, the same warning light came back on. When I returned the vehicle to the dealership, they first tried to shift blame—saying perhaps the previous service provider messed something up. Then they told me my engine needed to be replaced. When I reminded them that they were the last ones to work on the car, the tone changed. My vehicle is only a little over two years old—how is an engine replacement justified? they quoted me $14,000 to make this repair. I contacted Jeep customer care. Their inspection quoted $18,000, but with warranty coverage I was told I would owe $5,500. Even then, they tried to force me to take out a loan. Reluctantly, I paid the $5,500, as I rely on my vehicle for work and to transport my daughter to and from school. I was required to pay $4,000 upfront before any work would begin, and the engine was ordered. Over a month passed, with several promised completion dates (August 27, 28, 29) that came and went without completion. I flew in on August 29 expecting to pick up my vehicle, only to be told it was not ready because the new engine had been mistakenly sent back instead of the old one. This error is incomprehensible and has severely damaged my trust in the dealership. As of September, I was informed that my Jeep would be completed by September 9. That deadline has passed, and my vehicle remains unfinished. I have incurred additional expenses for flights and uber/lyft rides due to the dealership's missed deadlines and miscommunication. Not once was I offered a loaner vehicle, nor did.
Timing cover leak, replaced by dealer once covered under warranty. Few months later same leak occurred in the same park after dealer replacement. Back to the dealer to have checked, dealer found that the head gasket during manufacture/casting has defect causing the head gasket to protrude into the mounting surface for the timing cover gasket/seal causing improper seal and securement. Dealer got Jeep engineers involved and found it was during manufacture and assembly/casting process. New head gasket being replaced and installed inspection of all mounting surfaces on cylinders valves and pistons for additional damage, and replacing timing cover gasket again. This caused loss of engine oil over time even after dealer fix and replacement the first time, this could cause drivers to not know they are low on engine oil causing potential catastrophic engine damage or failure/seizing during normal operating conditions. This is a common failure in the Jeep 4xe of timing cover seal issues and leaks.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer. The contact stated while driving at approximately 80 mph the vehicle lost forward momentum and stalled. The contact stated that the "shift to park and restart" warning had illuminated. The contact coasted off of the roadway and shifted the vehicle to park (p). The contact was able restart the vehicle and continued on to his destination. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired, however the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled but a different warning illuminated, the warning was "acc disabled - a steering wheel symbol and an exclamation point. The contact was able to restart the vehicle but as he was driving the vehicle started losing forward momentum. The contact stated that vehicle had apparently gone into a "limp mode," the contact applied the accelerator pedal and was unable to accelerate beyond 15 mph. The contact took the vehicle to a different dealer. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and saw the contact information for the NHTSA safety hot line. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
While the vehicle is in operation, and without warning, it loses all motive power and coasts to a stop. A warning message is displayed on dash: “service hybrid electric vehicle system. ” the vehicle must be turned off then back on before motive power is restored. This is an extreme safety issue, if it were to occur at highway speeds amidst traffic, the likelihood of serious accident is high. Jeep dealer service says this is a known issue with many Jeep 4xe vehicles right now and no fix is known. This event has reoccurred more than 4 times. The most recent was 5/9/25.
The vehicle will suddenly and without warning lose power while in operation in the middle of traffic. The vehicle will coast to a stop without power, no power steering, no power braking, etc. This is an extreme safety concern. The vehicle losing power in traffic and coming to stop poses serious and great risk to the health and safety of both the occupants and any other vehicles and their occupants on the roadway. This has now occurred multiple times, due to the inability of fca to repair this defect, my family’s health and safety has been repeatedly endangered and will continue to be endangered with continued use of this vehicle. The most recent occurrence of the vehicle losing power and jeopardizing the life, health, and safety of my family occurred on may 9th, 2025 with the service appointment initiated may 10th, 2025. At this time no further repair attempt has been made by fca. Fca has finally admitted that this is related to code b273c.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph around a roundabout, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal before the vehicle stalled. Several unknown warning lights illuminated with an abnormal beeping sound coming from the vehicle. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. The contact waited for a while and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that an air bag sensor might have caused the failure. An unknown part was replaced. The contact stated that the message "service hybrid electric system" was continuously displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer escalated the failure and contacted the engineering departing at the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a claim. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

I was told the vehicle has a TSB out for stuck thermostat in the engine. It can cause malfunctions, overheating, etc. We also have an issue with the trunk door not closing or opening properly due to a module issue.
I am reporting a safety-related problem involving a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, VIN [xxx] . Dealership records reflect hybrid / charging-related failure, including a documented “service hybrid system message and vehicle will not charge,” repeated recall-related phev / high-voltage service, and later jerking during acceleration and deceleration with stored transmission-related fault code p0734. The records also document a passenger front door condition where the door would not open from the interior or exterior. These issues raise concerns relating to vehicle operation, electrical / hybrid system reliability, and occupant egress. The vehicle has required repeated service and caused loss of use. The vehicle experienced a hybrid system/charging failure documented by the servicing dealership as “service hybrid system message and vehicle will not charge. ” the vehicle also had battery-related failure requiring a jump and repeated service visits. This caused loss of use and raised reliability and safety concerns.
I've had issues with this Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe randomly shutting down on the highway at speeds between 65-75 mph. The service engine and transmission lights come on and the vehicle itself dies out and will power on but will not start for about 10-15 minutes afterwards. This is the fourth time I've had the issue and the dealership can not pin point a reason/fix for the car suddenly stopping. This last time the power steering went out as well these issues have almost caused several accidents . The dealership just clears the codes after saying the can not replicate the problems I'm having and gives the car back. I've gotten to the point now after almost being rear ended trying to clear the vehicle that I no longer feel safe driving it not only for myself but the other drivers around me a car with a little over 20,000 miles should not be having these issues consistently.
I am filing a complaint regarding repeated and dangerous safety failures with my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 4xe, which I purchased as a brand-new vehicle on February 22, 2025. The most critical issue is that the vehicle has shut off on two separate occasions—once while in motion driving up a hill and once during a suspension height adjustment while stopped. In both cases, the engine powered down unexpectedly, a red wrench and lightning bolt warning appeared, and the vehicle shifted into park on its own. I was unable to restart the vehicle immediately, creating a severe hazard. These shutdowns were preceded or followed by system warnings including “electric mode unavailable – service required,” “active driving assist unavailable,” “night vision unavailable,” “traffic sign assist unavailable,” and “tire pressure monitoring unavailable. ” these alerts began appearing within weeks of purchase and have persisted intermittently, sometimes alongside performance issues such as sudden jolts at highway speed. The cdjr dealership in northern California and various manufacturer (Jeep/stellantis) technical advisors have inspected the vehicle multiple times. A software defect has been identified and confirmed by Jeep, but no fix is available. A technical service bulletin 08-003-25 dated January 8, 2025—before I purchased the vehicle—acknowledges this issue. Despite this, the vehicle was sold to me, and I was sent home with it multiple times even after reporting these failures. The dealership and manufacturer technical advisors now consider the vehicle unsafe to operate and will not return it until a software update is released. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and available for inspection upon request. Supporting documentation including service records, warning light photos, and communications with Jeep customer care and the dealership, can be provided. I urge the agency to investigate this matter due to the confirmed safety risk and lack of timely resolution.
I was parking in my sister's driveway and car just accelerated in to her house!.
While driving on the freeway, the vehicle turned off. No engine, no electric, no headlights. I had to coast to the side during traffic. The mechanic is replacing the ocr module, stating the car thought it was in a collision and turned off. Though obviously it wasn’t. Before which, the screen flashes off from time to time. The car has had loss of power for a moment in the past but never all the way off. This was extremely dangerous and I’m concerned the ocr will not fix the issue. It is with the dealership now.
I was driving in hybrid mode at approximately 50 mph gently accelerating up a gentle hill. All of a sudden, the vehicle lost a significant amount of its motive power and experienced a significant shudder. The power delivery to the vehicle was significantly reduced for 2-3 seconds, puting myself and family at significant risk. The red service hybrid system light lit up on the dashboard and blinked for approximately 5 seconds. The vehicle then returned to normal operation. I took the vehicle to the Jeep dealership the next day and they were not able to find any associated error codes or replicate the issue.
After 95b (hivolt battery recall) car has had two system warnings - check hybrid system. Second time I was on fwy, high rush hour traffic and it was raining hard. Car made a big clunk sound (? transmission shift or engine shift from hybrid elect to gas. Large red wrench displayed. Both times error messages went away after 1min or so. There were no stored messages displayed on computer dashboard along steering wheel column.
I leased a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. The main failure involves the hybrid electrical system, which repeatedly malfunctions. The most serious issue is that the vehicle will suddenly stall while driving, without warning, leaving me and my children stranded in the middle of traffic. This creates an extreme safety risk, as it has happened in intersections and nearly caused accidents with other vehicles, including a semi-truck. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed multiple times by the dealership. Despite numerous service visits, no permanent fix has been provided. Fca/stellantis representatives have acknowledged there is not yet a repair for this ongoing defect. The vehicle has also failed to charge on several occasions, displaying “service charging system” and “service hybrid electrical system” warnings. I have documentation, work orders, and photos/videos of these repeated issues. The dealer and manufacturer have been unable to repair the vehicle within a reasonable time. Warning messages such as “service hybrid electrical system” first appeared within months of leasing the vehicle, and they continue to reappear unpredictably. Because of these defects, my safety and the safety of my three young children have been placed at significant risk every time the vehicle stalls or refuses to charge.

Vehicle has a knocking noise coming from around the engine. There has been a TSB posted regarding the issue described as, "customer may describe a low frequency vibration noise heard during engine mount actuation while at idle in gear". This is a frequent issue among dealers around my area that are having to replace vehicles outside of the warrant window. Engine mounts in most vehicles last at least 5-6 years before having to be replaced. This is causing a huge distraction with the noise that is a result.
Dear NHTSA, I am filing this complaint regarding a serious and ongoing turbocharger and engine problem in my 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer. Despite being one of Jeep’s flagship luxury vehicles, my SUV has experienced repeated engine warning lights, loss of power, and now complete turbo failure—all within 57,300 miles and under warranty. Soon after purchase (used, low mileage), the check engine light began appearing repeatedly. The dealership (Jeep pearson, broad street, richmond, va) performed several repairs and software resets, but the problem always returned. Recently, I was informed that the turbocharger must be replaced—an alarming issue for such a premium vehicle. These failures have created safety risks including: sudden loss of acceleration while driving on highways or merging. Hesitation or delayed throttle response, leading to unpredictable behavior in traffic. Concern about engine stalling or overheating from repeated malfunction. I have already escalated the issue to Jeep brand (stellantis) and requested the following: vehicle replacement with a safe, defect-free model; buyback and loan payoff to remove liability from a defective vehicle; or two-year warranty extension covering all turbo and powertrain components. Despite multiple service visits and my written escalation, Jeep has not provided a permanent fix or assurance that the problem won’t return after repair. My warranty is nearing expiration, leaving me at risk of future costs caused by what appears to be a manufacturing defect. Through online research and owner discussions, I’ve found other grand wagoneer owners reporting similar turbo failures, power loss, and recurring check-engine issues, often before 60,000 miles. This suggests a potential systemic defect that could compromise safety across the 2022 grand wagoneer line. Water pump started leaking antifreeze at 23000 miles. Dealer replaced part under warranty.
The red wrench light keeps coming on, hybrid system needs repair. It looses power for a short period of time, every time has been on the freeway. It makes a hugh crunch noise(transmission) and slams into gear. It is available for inspection, currently at dealership, it has been there for last week. This problem has been persistent, its been in many times for this issue. Chrysler told me they do not have a fix. It is all over the chat forums. We do not feel safe driving this car because it looses power temporarily and on the freeway. Many others are having problems with it stopping from a loss of power. It has been inspected by the dealership and in for repairs many times. This vehicle has been in the dealership on a regular basis since it was new. It has always had a power train issue, clunky and loss of power. Now it is worse and they don't have a repair. It has also had engine lights coming on and off. Had issue with having to put it in park turn off and turn back on to get it in gear. The loss of power on the freeway is the persistent issue right now. These cars need pulled off the roads until they are fixed!.
Engine making thwomping sound on passenger side, only after 30 miles of driving. Must be in gear - d or r. 27k miles Jeep Grand Cherokee l engine mounts suspected. No inspection yet because it's near impossible to recreate in a 'shop' environment. My dealer requires leaving the car for a week and they drive it for five minutes. That is not enough to get this to happen. We believe it has to do with TSB - 09-015-22 on the Jeep forums [xxx] ), a lot of people have this same problem. The issue is, you have to drive the vehicle about 30 miles before it appears. This is consistent with all users on the forum as well. Of course this makes it very difficult to pin down and near impossible to get a warranty fix since they cannot recreate it. In the TSB it mentions "if the symptom/condition is present and the mounts are not nik ag or newer, proceed. . . " this means they know the old mounts are faulty by admission, yet no recall. Vehicle surged forward with out touching the gas.
There have now been at least three incidents where the accelerator is pressed and the vehicle does not respond for an extended period of time, then overreacts and launches the vehicle forward unpredictably. Most recently, leaving a parking lot, I pressed the accelerator gently as I normally would, the vehicle just rolled down to the road, no power. As oncoming traffic was coming (now about 5 seconds later), I pressed the pedal further, almost to the floor, the engine engaged and launched the car forward. This has happened in traffic circles, and produces a delay long enough for other drivers to sound their horn, as my vehicle refuses to move for at least 3-5 seconds. This has resulted in many close calls when oncoming traffic is coming and my vehicle will not move as it should - and this type of incident occurs unpredictably.
Vehicle immediately accelerated as I was attempting to pull out of the house garage. I pressed hard on the breaks to halt it. I then returned the gear knob to park (“p”) mode. I tried again to place the gear knob on drive and the vehicle started raving on high as if it was about to take off at full speed. I waited for a few minutes while it was on park “p” mode, with the engine still idling, and placed it in reverse “r” mode to return into the garage and the same thing happened in reverse mode. It jumped back in full speed when I gradually released the brakes. Engine was raving extremely high. I decided to shut it off and schedule an appointment with the dealership for a vehicle inspection. As is, not certain if it might do the same while out on the street driving it. Vehicle just had a recall inspection done on 4/20/2024. This is the first time the engine has done such.
The brake force will jump suddenly and fall back when the brake pedal is even maintained at a constant level while the vehicle is being braked to a stop or decelerating. This malfunctioning will lead to imprecise control of the distance to the front vehicle. Engine wobbling when it is fully stopped with "d" gear engaged, especially when the transmission temperature comes up after a few hours of driving. It can be clearly felt that the entire vehicle is bouncing with the engine. Engine misfires when crawling after a cold start. Engine speed will fall suddenly and then back up. The vehicle will shake badly, which can cause improper reaction and improper operation of the vehicle speed. The passenger seat squeezes the center console on the right side and the plastic panel comes off, which exposes a sharp edge to the passenger's lower body. After the dealer's inspection, there is no obvious cause for this defect, passenger and center console are all in their places. The rear quarter window on the passenger side water leak. Metal rattling noise from the left front side (driver side) of the cabin when the vehicle is running on a bumpy road, especially in hot weather. Noise comes from the rear left suspension when the vehicle is decelerating.
Multiple instances where car will not start. Often lights flicker, get a service charging system notice, get a hybrid system offline, get a check engine light, then car battery shuts off and its dead. Has had to be towed to dealership and left me stranded multiple times.
Brand new car. Driven 600 miles. After shopping at costco I get to the car and it is completely dead. Will not turn on and every single code possible popped on the screen. Luckily I wasn’t with my kids or out of town or this could’ve been a nightmare. How can this happen with a brand new car? makes me afraid of what may happen in the future.

I lost complete control in order to regain control of the moving vehicle, I had to force the steering wheel to turn into a handicap space in front of me while attempting to brake at the same time. I was able to avoid the pedestrians and cars around me as well as the parked car next to me, without causing any damage to myself or those in the vicinity. If I was traveling on the freeway, loading onto my local ferry or driving on a major highway or freeway onramp, my life and the life of those around me would have been in serious jeopardy because I lost complete control of the Jeep. Jeep fca arranged to tow the car to the Jeep dealer who inspected the vehicle, downloaded the computer data, examined the report, confirmed the multiple problems and repaired the vehicle with a detailed description of the problems they encountered. Prior to the complete failure of the 4xe, there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms or any indication of any kind of the impending crisis and near disaster. So far, there have been a total of four recalls. Two have been addressed, with the third to be serviced tomorrow and the fourth without parts avaible to keep the wheels from falling off. Vehicle completely shut off while driving down highway. Completely lost steering response and breaking response. There was absolutely no way to control the vehicle. My daughter and I both thought we were going to crash and die. We live in alaska and it's winter time so the road conditions aren't the best. It took about 10 to 15 seconds and everything came back on and started working again. I drove my vehicle straight to the dealership I bought it from and have demanded a buyback process. I haven't had it a year and even the hybrid heating coolant system has had to be replaced twice.
While traveling on san marcos highway between luling and san marcos at 65 mph, the vehicle began to lose speed and I realized the engine was no longer powering the vehicle. No warning indicators other than an unresponsive throttle. I was able to coast off onto the shoulder and bring the vehicle to a stop. The dash prompted me to put the vehicle in park before starting so somehow the vehicle turned off while driving. I have experienced numerous electrical nuances with this vehicle, but mainly to the comfort systems (a/c, radio), but a vehicle randomly turning off while driving is what prompted me to file this report.
Car started displaying all mill lights in the message center, including “lane assist disabled,” “stability control arm needs servicing,” “traction control unavailable,” and others. After about 3-5 seconds of rapid fire messages being displayed, the car made a “shutting down noise” and then died on the side of the road. Had it towed to a dealership.
On several occasions, our 2022 Grand Cherokee summit vehicle purchased in may 2022 from pearson Jeep in richmond, va automatically switches to a lower gear causing the vehicle to have to be pulled over, put in park before moving again. This is dangerous especially on the interstate.
Today while driving our Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was slowing for a stop light and a message came on saying service start/stop system. At the time I was traveling approximately 18 miles per hour. As I was slowing down I reached off approximately 5-8 mph when all of the car shifted to park. This was a very scary and dangerous incident for myself and vehicles around me. Now that I was stopped it wouldn’t let me shift the vehicle back in to drive. Finally a new message appeared saying stop/start restart required. Out of frustration and trying a number of different things, we eventually shut the ignition off and restarted the car and this did allow us to put the car in gear. It was a very unnerving situation. I immediately drove the vehicle to the dealership. This is the second time it’s in the shop for shifting to park on its own. After doing some research at home it appears others with the 202/2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee l have been having similar issues. This is a very serious issue that needs fixed.
Purchased 1 Feb 23. 3 weeks later, I pulled out of driveway and drove 3 blocks before coming to stop sign, after stopping, I proceeded to pull across 4 lane hwy. Only to have vehicle shut off in middle of 2 lanes. I was left sitting broadside in middle of 2 lanes. I finally realized the drivers door was ajar, I closed door completely and was able to restart vehicle. It is now June 2023 and it happened again after driving about 3 blocks. This time it shut off while I was driving 50 mph in middle of 2 lane hwy. Again drivers door was ajar. This is a serious safety hazzard. Vehicle is not supposed to move if door is not closed completely. There were no bells or lights warning you that door was not closed completely. Jeep dearlership does not seem to think this is a major safety issue and did nothing to fix.

The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
The engine in our 2022 wagoneer failed. We bought the car on April 30, 2022 and it had 15,000 miles on it when the engine blew. We were driving on I-70 near burlington, CO when the message on the did ash read something to the effect of put the car in park. There were no other warning lights. Immediately, the car began to lose power and white smoke started to come out of the exhaust. We were able to get the car to the shoulder from the left lane, however, we were going 75mph or so and could’ve gotten into a wreck. A wrecker was called through wagoneer roadside assistance and came about 2 hours after the initial call. The anti lock brakes on the car kept locking when the car was put into neutral to try to get the car on the wrecker. The engine barely started at this point. The closest dealer was in limon, CO which is where the car is currently. Upon visual inspection, a new engine was ordered under warranty. Apparently, the engine was completely locked at this point and the service dept in limon couldn’t even start the car. We don’t know if there is anything else wrong. Additionally, there is another wagoneer at the transwest dealership in limon, CO with a blown engine.
2022 Jeep grand wagoneer series 1,had 22000 miles and engine locked up with number 4 piston seizing up. New starter put on and also new Cadillac converters. A new motor was installed but will not idle because of timing issues. 64 days later engineer can still not figure out how to help the mechanic to get it running. Prior to this driving home from dealer lot airbag light came on sos. Would shift in four low without pushing the button while driving. Because dealership was not a certified Jeep wagoneer dealer, wagoneer client services has been little to no help driving a used GMC arcadia that has more miles on it that what our vehicle had when the motor blew!.
Having less than 3k miles in the odometer, the engine started to develop valve train noise that worsens as the engine gets hotter, taken to the dealership to check on the concern plus no start, had the battery replaced after staying 3 weeks in the dealership, supposedly the noise was normal, took it to another dealership as the first one left a few things not fixed, once again I was told the noise was normal, the noise started to get louder as miles were being put on the car, people would ask if the car was a diesel powered one, even the service advisor of the dealership were the car remains asked me if the engine was diesel when she heard the noise. At idling speed the engine is not running smoothly you can hear cylinders misfiring on the exhaust, oil temp remains over 240 when driven, 245 just by pressing the gas to pass a car, oil pressure at idling speed has gone lower as time goes by reaching at times 28 psi. Noise varies when the engine switches in between 8 cyl or 4 cyl mode, in 4 cyl mode the whole car vibrates really bad and loud until you hit the gas to get the engine out of the 4 cyl mode. Service engine light came on once at idling speed when the idling speed became erratic. Engine stalled once. Car in the dealership since Jan 23 2023, was called exactly one month later to pick it up as per they report everything was ok, asked to try another one with the same engine mine has so I could hear the "normal" noise, they had none to check, the shop foreman went on a test ride with me to confirm the issue and then he acknowledged that the noise was weird, so I was asked to leave it, two months already went by and so far no word on the issue, the car has not being further diagnosed by the 'engine expert" will have to go through the lemon law as they just don't say a word or give me options. Grand cherokee summit reserve 5. 7 hemi engine. As of today 3/29/2023 still not diagnosed.
Ac/hvac: experienced multiple occasion where the system (front and rear) turns on and quickly varies between settings with no way to override. Engine: when speeds are in excess of 80mph front passenger vent makes excessive noise in line with engine rpm’s “auto drove” ineffective due to lane departure inop, after service for above incidents radio is extremely intermittent.

The contact stated that the abnormal sound was occurring while driving uphill at various speeds. The contact stated that the local dealer diagnosed the vehicle and advised the contact that the manufacturer was aware of the failure but did not have a fix available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.

This is my personal assessment: my vehicle didn't visit the dealer yet and there are no warning lights of any kind and the answer to all the above bullets is no. Two main issues, 1) intermittently, when press the gas pedal from idle stop @ traffic light, you will the engine revs but the vehicle either doesn't move or move very slow. In either case, relasing gas and pressing again remediate the situation. This occasional can produce a dangeourous situation and put lives to risk. 2) the second issue is regarding active driving assist system adas, also occasionally when the system is all green, steering wheel and all, and ahead of me there is 1/4 of a mile to red traffic light and the road is open for me. I am driving about 50 miles, now approaching the stopped traffic, and suddenly the vehicle start to speed up when it was slowing down for the traffic a moment ago. Something very unusual, I abruptly press the brake to force manual stop. The car then doesn't show this symptom for a few days but occasionally it comes back again.

While I was driving at around 35 miles per hour and tried to stop in a short distance because of the “should I go or not” situation at the traffic light, the whole vehicle was shut off at a blink of an eye. Soon after I noticed it and tried to imitate the incident to make sure I wasn’t mistaken, it happened three time in a row. The incident can only be seen at night time when light from the headlight is visible since it happens so quick. It wasn’t just about headlight. The engine shut off and turned back momentarily as well. Thankfully each event didn’t last longer than a second and there weren’t any vehicles nearby. When I told a cdjr monrovia service department manager about the incident and said we need to investigate, he was not serious about it. And nothing was inspected upon the request. There were no warning signs prior to the failure.
